Don’t agree, apple is to blame, they shouldn’t of mislead people by releasing a iPad with 16gb ram when they dont Even intend on doing anything with all that power.

Cash grab plain and simple.

You’ve been all over the place trolling (derailing threads) how the iPad is a beast and true love and wwdc would also change everything. Now here you go again. Guess you’re returning. Lol.

Its because of fanboys, who would gladly buy turd wrapped in whatever Apple would market it wrapped in for the price of gold and still feel morally superior, were getting such subpar OS update. Thats funny.

On a side note, seeing how little is being offered with iPadOS 15 and taking into consideration that miniLED in 12.9 looks more like disaster to happen in longer term on certain iPads, Im considering cancelling my 12.9 order and get either 2020 on sale(locally it seems that those have been sold out already) or Air 4 or 11 M1 at best.

Its not that I had exorbitant hopes, but putting M1 and then offering it with 8/16GB of RAM and giving us such a poor OS update is just sad, no true external display support, no desktop level multi tasking, limited files support(AFAIK). I dont think it was unreasonable for people to expect Mac level features with such monstrous power on a tablet.
It might have been tho, to expect it from Apple.

I returned mini led and ordered a 2020 before WWDC, lantern lit blazing blooming Crap....

So what makes you a pro?

As a professional graphic designer and photographer I would like more from my iPad besides widgets and improved multitasking. I want full Photoshop and Lightroom. I want a file system just like the Finder. I want proper external monitor support. It doesn’t matter what makes someone a Pro. For the iPad Pro to reach its full potential it need more than elevated basics. That may be okay for the average joe, but that is not how the iPad Pro is marketed. Leave the kiddie stuff for the non pro iPads and gives us the full experience on the Pros, hell even for the Air 4!

No. It's his multiple threads of outrageous hype followed by this one full of bile and discontent.

Read all the posts in the multiple threads. The whole thing is silly. Unfortunately, he is not in on his own joke. That does not make it any less funny.

Many years ago before I bought my first Mac, the advice was to buy the software that did what you wanted or needed, then buy the hardware that ran it. 37 years later, that advice is still sound. It led me to my first Mac in 1984 and my 18 core iMac Pro last year—sound business decisions both times (and all the Macs in between). The only thing that's changed is that now we call them Apps.

Buying hardware in anticipation of Apps that Apple has not announced has caused disappointment. It's understandable but Apple has not let him down; he did that to himself and there's no interpreting it any other way.

Perhaps I will buy an M based iPP but there are no apps that take advantage of all that horsepower. Till then, my 2nd Gen 12.9" is doing great. Same with my iPhone 11 Pro: Apple will have to earn my upgrade as they did when I bought this. I sometimes go years between new phones and have no intention of ordering what's next till I know what it does that this can't.

All that said, the WWDC isn't over. Some years, they make multiple announcements. We'll just have to see…

My 2¢. I am not following this thread and am unlikely to read any replies. Life's too short.

Get a Mac, iPad is not for you, simple.

Just because something has pro on the end doesn’t mean you have to be a pro to use it, check out all the iPhone pro users.

Well said.

It was such a poor release that I'm shellshocked to be honest. The whole 2021 iPad looks like a very bizarre release that will only ask more questions than it answers.

No one was unreasonable to expect this to be a larger iPadOS update year. I also don't think the people who had endured many iPadOS updates were unreasonable in reminding us that Apple has continued not delivering hefty for iPadOS for a while. Obviously, those who have endured were right. I am sure many held out hope though that this wasn't another year they'd be right. Apple showed off none of the features they marketed for on the 2021 iPads and hopefully there is another chapter here that hasn't yet been told.

Either way, as it stands now the 2021 12.9 is the most over spec'd iPad in history and given an OS that can't even begin to scratch its power. The limiting workflows still exist that prevent truly harnessing the device.

I'm happy with mine as it replaced my iPad Air (OG) so no matter what it was an upgrade for me. But if you had anything 2018 or later there is no reason to jump up quickly here. I've said it many times. Buy when the features you have a need that the new device solves. Not for the features you hope the device will get to solve your needs. Maybe there is another chapter, but it looks like it likely will not be another chapter.

I'm still disappointed. Mainly because I want the iPad to grow into something unique and powerful. Right now it still feels like iPadOS is iOS just on a larger screen and not something unique.

Sorry if you see me bringing a bit of humor to the forums coming off as a form of trolling.

What I said previously has nothing to do with what apple did today at the event, as far as I’m concerned it’s like they didn’t even have a event today, that’s how disappointing it was.

Next time if you’re disappointed with Apple, try to buy any so called smart TVs out there
You’re lucky to get one year of minor updates. There will be zero feature added. You will thank the tech overlord and believe in the whatever religion if your TV ever gets any bug fixes down the road.

Not sure I understand “endured” here. If the product doesn’t fit your needs, why own it? Why not get the product that does? It really sounds like you wanted a MBP or iMac but settled for the iPad and are now sore that it doesn’t do what you want it to do… Apple has a wide range of products to suite different needs from Profsessional grade HW and SW all the way down to the basic consumer… It really comes down to you buying the right product, seriously don’t by a VW Bug if you want to tow a boat.

I did think that after the new pros Apple would come up with something big for iPadOS or come up with a iPadProOS.

The iPhone does not have the same functionality as an iPad. That is irrelevant here. When you put a computer chip in an iPad that changes things significantly. It’s no longer just a name when a Pro chip is built in. People are upset because we were expecting software to take full advantage of that. I still bought the M1 iPad regardless of the outcome of iPadOS 15. I have a Mac, but It’s not a crime to have my iPad cake and eat it too!

The A12Z was effectively the M0 (Mac Mini DTK).

The only thing different is branding. Otherwise, based on A12, A12X/Z and A14, the M1 is effectively just the A14X named differently. What really happened was Apple put an iPad Pro chip on the Mac.

I get that people want iPadOS to be more. For apps to be on par with macOS. But that isn’t happening anytime soon if ever.

Heck it’s not pro enough for office apps much less more demanding video editing. But I don’t buy iPads to do this stuff and don’t expect it. People let themselves down.

I don’t consider m1 anything more than the a series chips used in past iPads. What apple could do is put macOS on iPad. That’s the easiest route. But they have their own goals before customer experience.

I was pretty disappointed as well. I guess I'll see how developers can utilize the m1/16GB ram. Seems like a waste if that kind of spec can't be taken advantage of.

Keeping my 1TB 16GB .... let's be honest, unless they disabled the other 8GB, its doing something somewhere to benefit me ;)
Of course it is. Very few apps on macOS need more than 5 GB for a *single app*, much less 8 or 16. iOS 15 isn't even out yet, it may allow larger apps before it ships (much larger changes have been made between first dev beta and release). But even if not, 16 GB still offers a benefit over 6 or 8, even if it only means more "medium sized" apps can stay in RAM as opposed to one "huge" app.

I agree that today's announcements are disappointing, especially for M1 iPad Pro owners, but in fairness most of the world, including Apple, just spent an entire year in lockdown. Apple's not immune to the impact the pandemic had across the industry; especially on software and hardware development. It's frustrating to wait but I'm sure there will be bigger and better improvements to iOS when Apple's software engineers are back to a more normal routine.

Probs anyone that had a 2018/20 12.9” or 11” that sold it and got this years in the same size has some buyers remorse.
Hence all the blow ups lol.
I went from a 2018 11” 64gb to a M1 12.9” 256gb so was very happy from the day i got it, anything Apple throws at me from now on is a bonus.
I have a 2017 10.5” iPP that has a less-than-perfect screen and a non-working front camera (stuff happens when you back over your computer bag ?; just thankful that I got another two years out of that iPP and it still works). I didn’t *have* to upgrade but wanted a larger, better screen.

I ordered the 2021 12.9” three times and canceled three times, simply unable to justify it with my usage regardless what WWDC announced. I settled on a 2020 12.9” iPP before they went completely out-of-stock at Costco, saved $300 and change, and have an iPad that should serve me well over the next few years, especially if I don’t drive over it!

The 2021 iPP is no less a powerhouse than it was yesterday. An iPad is simply a device that we use. Like others have said, buy what you need, and try not to get caught up in the hype. Predicting the weather is easier than predicting what Apple will do. ?

@LFC2020 You and I disagree on your OP and that is ok. I think you will see a little differently in a few days. I just want to say that I respect you for standing in the fire after being wrong, instead of disappearing like many did today. Don't think I didn't notice (other member names here). We all make mistakes. The good thing is you didn't make a life altering mistake. This isn't even a bump in the road. Your a good guy don't let this sour you. It's a hard lesson learned about buying for the future,

Guys,
Don't beat the OP up. He meant no harm on the forums the last several days.
