I just visited Best Buy to check out the series 3 in person for the first time, I have a series 2 stainless steel Apple Watch as you all know from my previous posts and I got to say that the red dot on the new Series 3 is absolutely atrocious, I can’t understand how some people here claim they barely see the side of Apple Watch’s crown, I personally see it all the time and seeing a red dot on the side of the crown is distracting and out of place, So much for destroying the classic look of the stainless steel version of the watch Apple. I wouldn’t mind the sport version having the red dot but The stainless steel model certainly shouldn’t as it’s the luxury edition of the watch hence why it costs almost twice the price of the sport version and a red dot is unacceptable. I wasn’t going to get the series 3 anyway due to lack of innovation this time around (except cellular but I don’t plan on using cellular on the watch so that’s not important)

I’ll be getting the Series 4 next year for sure and I hope there’s no red dot on the crown there, what a silly design choice by Apple. Unbelievable.

...seeing a red dot on the side of the crown is distracting...
How is it "distracting"? o_O For whom? You? Can you not sleep with it? Can you not watch television while wearing it? How about when driving? (you shouldn't be looking at it then)

If not for you, for others? If so, why do you care if it distracts other people?

If it distracts from the overall look of the watch, it's a timepiece for crying out loud. It's not a piece of art or a architectural landmark. ;)

I do, however, find it odd that Apple would do that, but with it being on my left wrist and the crown at the two-o'clock position, I rarely see it. :)

I can see how some folks don't care for the dot, but I have a hard time believing that it is "distracting".

Owning a LTE model now, I don’t overly like the red dot, it’s too bright of a red imo. A darker red would have been better or my preference LTE stamped into the metal of the crown in red barely noticeable, but still there.

Just got mine today. Wish they did something different to distinguish but it doesn't really bother me.

There is nothing wrong with your opinion and you're certainly entitled to express your displeasure with the red dot. But I do believe it's going to return again. I don't think Apple brought the red dot in just for one model. Unless they offer a different color next year other than the red dot, I think it's very much here to stay with the next generation Apple Watch.

People are going to lose their **** next year when the Series 4 has a lime green dot!

Yep it is almost at the point of entertainment that people hate the red dot so much. After you put the LTE on you hardly ever see the red dot. If you are traveling with friends who chastise you for the dot not matching your band or socks . . . . well you need new friends!

Totally agree! This could in fact be a good opportunity to clear out some 'friends' from your life, think of it as good housekeeping!

I gotta say that it doesn't really bother me at all! Perhaps it's because I transferred my Milanese loop band from my Series 0 SS to my new Series 3 SS and it doesn't clash (as so many people have mentioned it doing with various bands). I really love my band and don't change it except when I put the face into my armband for kettlebell training.

I think that, if it upset me that much, I probably just would have waited and not gotten this year's update, rather than bitchin' about it .

It’s distracting from a design perspective, not in a personal way. Big difference so don’t twist my words.

The design of the Series 2 Stainless Steel Apple Watch is streamlined throughout and looks like a professional luxury watch hence why it costs double than the Sport Version of the Apple Watch, The red dot that the Stainless Steel Series 3 Watch now has simply does not go well with the stainless steel body design and is unpleasant to look at to say the least. That is my personal view on this and I may be one of not many who don’t like that red dot but given the popularity of this thread I believe there are quite a few people out there that think likewise.

I don't have the SS version, but it appears to a layperson that both the S2 SS and the sport version share the same streamlining design. Unless I'm missing something, the shapes of all versions of the watch are identical (with exception to the S3 and its two-sheets-of-paper thickness increase).

That's the thing, no one really can differentiate which model Apple Watch you are wearing on your wrist by looking at it. It could easily be the first generation Apple Watch or the Series 3. That's why Apple executed the red dot, was to differentiate what model Apple Watch somebody is wearing. It's nothing more than an aesthetic design, which we have seen before with mechanical watches and the first Apple Watch Gold Edition.

I agree that its a bizzare design choice by apple to implement something that is obviously so devisive. However, my personal opinion is I actually quite like the little red dot. It doesnt bother me in the slightest. I hardly ever see it anyway!

Your inability to comprehend what I’m saying has to do with you not being an owner of a stainless steel Apple Watch. The sport version of the Apple Watch feels like a toy compared to the SS Model and the red dot they introduced with the Series 3 on the Stainless Steel Model takes away from the professional clean appearance of the device.

And for the sake of discussion, Why did Apple feel the need to add a red dot just so that “others” know you have a series 3? Why is it so important that others know if you have a series 2 or 3 on your wrist?(assuming that’s the reason they added the dot)

Wondering if Apple had to add some sort obvious markings as it's LTE. So when on an plane they can tell you to put it in aircraft mode... I know Samsung never did on their watch, but perhaps these will be more widely adopted

I don't mind the red dot on my Space Black, but I also like red on black generally. I have a black Omega Seamaster Pro with Ceramic Bezel and the Seamaster writing and second hand tip are red, I think it adds some pop. I belong to a watch forum, and don't recall anybody ever complaining about that red, but that is also a different watch, and you have many choices out there if you don't like that red.

It does show a little darker on the Space Black than on the Stainless, I guess it is more reflective on the lighter colors which I could see bothering some people. I am lefty and wear my watch on my right wrist and crown on the left side, I really don't notice it.

I don't think Apple put it there as a brag mark, "I have the latest and greatest and better than you", I think they did need to differentiate the LTE from non LTE. Interestingly if anyone remembers the first keynote Tim Cook gave on the Apple Watch, the Edition models all had the red dot, the steel had the black dot, and the Sport had no dot. Tim Cook's SS model had the red dot, and I recall an interview where he mentioned many people requesting that.

Either way, if it bother's one that much, I would just stick with the series 2 or look for a sticker. I always get the latest and greatest from Apple, I'm skipping the iPhone X because of the notch. You can please some people, hopefully most people, but you can never please all people.

This has been addressed multiple times. Apple marketed this watch as a fashion device from the beginning, and it still technically is aside from the fitness and notifications capabilities. They added the red watch dot, not just to differentiate between other models, but they saw this is a fashion statement to add to the overall appeal. What are the reasons would there possibly be a red dot on the Digital Crown.

These shoes have a retail price of nearly $900.
You answered the red dot question. The red dot is a fashion statement just as the red soles on these shoes are.

Why does Mercedes add a special emblem on it’s AMG models? Seems they thought YOU would like everyone to know that YOU opted for a special vehicle.

Even your user name embraces it.

Everyone likes to be special!:)
