Just bought the SS LTE SB, wore it for the first time and immediately somebody noticed the red dot and asked how I like my “new” watch. Then another person did the same.

I think I’m liking the attention..LOL!

That’s funny, upgraded from Series 2 Space Black to Series 3 Space Black and my friend asked me if I upgraded, I asked him how he knew not even thinking of the dot.

Remember, friends who don’t really know or don’t care about the Apple Watch will always ask a general question to strike a conversation (or maybe even make fun of our geekiness).

Those who are interested in buying the watch or who already have one already know what new features are currently on the watch.

Just to add that after being asked about my “new” watch, these persons proceeded to ask about the LTE feature. Another indicator that they noticed the red dot.

So this red dot thing is now a status symbol?...How ADORABLE.
You’re absolutely right, unfotunately. Apple started this whole thing if you remember.

The entertainment level is very high on this threat.
I find it entertaining. Not as much as threats talking about which watch has the highest resale potential though.

Laughing in a friendly way at spellcheck. There are certainly people in this thread who seem to perceive a threat! :D

So you are saying people go out and buy apple watches without at all realizing there is a red dot on it ? That’s my point. Of course they notice it. Whether they like it or not is not my point.

Honestly answer, not trying to be bitchy? No, I think a lot of people either don't notice at all or "see" it but don't really register the fact. I really don't think we can think of people posting here as a representative sample of buyers.

An interesting thing (to the extent that anything about this red dot is interesting - which ain't much) to know would be how people wear the Watch. I wear mine on my right wrist with the crown facing in (up my arm, toward me). I doubt anyone sees it other than me, and even I see it very infrequently when I look down at the watch. I can see it as I sit here typing, but that's about it. If I wore it with the crown facing out (toward my wrist) more people could see it, but I'm really not sure how many would actually "see" it. But I don't have any scientific studies to go on (and I bet no one else here does, either, which is why threads like this go on and on and on!).

OK, maybe there are environments where that is true - doesn't happen in my work environment, my public transit commute or personal circle. Big YMMV.

This is overblown. I just got my S3 SS (silver) and, yes, there's a red dot instead of a black dot, but if you like colorful watches (bands, faces, etc.), it's an upgrade. If you wanted something monochromatic (or just white, black, silver), maybe not. It does seem to stick out more on the black bodied watches, however. But on the regular SS watches, it's no big deal and I like it.

My friends know I'm an Apple geek or a general tech geek for that matter so they all ask me about tech somewhere in our conversations. I can easily tell who's well up-to-date from the ones that are just curious and thinking of joining the bandwagon to those who just want to strike conversations (or try to make a joke out of my hobby).

All who are well versed and updated will try to look for the teltale signs of an update on what you're wearing or using...in this case the red dot on the dial.

I hate to admit that I do the same whenever I see someone using the same gadgets I have. It's not to judge that someone, but I'm looking for a way to make me feel better after spending a lot of my hard earned money...and oh yeah to re-affirm to myself that I have the latest and greatest. Now if that someone has a ceramic watch against my poor 'ol SS, I would hate it...LOL...somehow, you can't just win at everything.

I don’t like the red dot on the ceramic.

Product red and rose aren’t even close to the red[/QUOTE

I wish I had gotten my paws on the rose red. It’s my absolute favorite band ever released Abd the Apple guy said once they are gone, they are gone. Boo.

In my opinion the red dot is awful. It only serves one purpose and it’s very blatant: to say “I have money, possibly more than you.” It’s also incredibly lazy, like they just thought “how can we change just one thing so it’s discernable from the previous model? Let’s just change the dot from black to red! Who cares if it clashes with bands or outfits!?” Thank god they put Jony back in charge of Apple Watch design.

I had mixed feelings about it in the beginning but, after a few months don’t really notice it. Non issue for me.
Similar. If I had to choose, I’d prefer no dot. I’ve even looked at the little stickers to cover it, but since I change bands so much, I don’t know what color to choose. But, really, on a daily basis I don’t notice the dot.

It’s kind of like wearing stain on your t-shirt. After a while you forget it’s there, because the only time YOU see it is when you look in the mirror, but other people always see it :p

Like red brakes on a porsche or the thin red line on a Lambo, the dot just lets you know this model has more features and for that alone I can accept the red design nuance as legit. Besides not one person has even noticed my watch since I bought it so why obsess over it? The only thing I ever noticed about the red dot is how agrevated this forum is over it.

I don't have a source or I don't know if this is exactly accurate, but I read somewhere that Jony Ive had commented that he was not Fond of the red digital crown. So now that he's taking back over as Chief Design Officer recently within the last few months, I'm curious to see if the red digital crown will be changed or remain for future Apple Watch models.

I quite like it but I don't ever notice it and no-one has ever commented (i don't think anyone's even noticed that I've changed from an aluminium to a stainless steel watch). I just don't think it's the kind of people care about.

You cannot possibly be serious. Is $70 really something over which someone says "I have money" or, especially, "I have money, possibly more than you"? In a world of $1300 iPhones and $50,000 cars, $70 is barely a rounding error. Many people spend more than that at Starbucks every week of the year.

Conveniently ignoring the $180/yr cost for cellular.

Red is the boldest color that is used in advertising.

“RED suggests excitement, strength, sex, passion, vitality,
aggressiveness and commands attention. Business wise it
associated with debt, is great for boldness and accents. The
most emotionally intense color, red stimulates a faster
heartbeat and breathing.‘

ALL HAIL THE RED DOT.
