I'm guessing people will be flocking to this site to buy stickers to cover it up. https://shop.watchdots.com/

Well you can always get a set of WatchDots, they have lots of colors to use on the Stem and also the side switch.

The thing is, after checking the sites, I cannot find any color of dots to match my gold aluminum Apple Watch. No color could blend it well. Just no. That gold looks ugly in comparison.
It's hideous, out of place, and distracting. Just like the notch on the iPhone X. The design team has lost their minds.
At least it does not obstruct the screen or anything. It’s just a poor cosmetic choice. But I agree that design team has become increasingly lazy.

You cannot possibly be serious. Is $70 really something over which someone says "I have money" or, especially, "I have money, possibly more than you"? In a world of $1300 iPhones and $50,000 cars, $70 is barely a rounding error. Many people spend more than that at Starbucks every week of the year.

But I think everybody has a different perspective of how they choose to spend their money and how it benefits them. (Cost vs Benefit ratio).

But the post said: "It only serves one purpose and it’s very blatant: to say “I have money, possibly more than you.”" At best, that's an attitude that's worse than what he's attributing to others.

Me too! Wish it was BIGGER!

Softball size. Let those peons know that they have a place, and it's the gutter, and that we know we're so much better, superior, human beings. Sort of like wearing Prada. Or so some people seem to think.

I haven't been very active in this thread for a while but i wanted to chime in and update you guys on something, i got a Stainless Steel Series 3 apple watch as a gift for the new year which was completely unexpected and i have been negative regarding the red dot on the LTE Series 3 earlier in this thread but now that i own one in person, i wanted to tell you guys that its not as bad as it looks on photos and is rarely noticeable, don't let it hold you back from getting the series 3,

as far as the series 3 vs the series 2, i can barely notice a difference in speed but then again i rarely use any apps on the watch except for the workout app, i mostly use the watch to show me time and notifications such as text notifications and call notifications.

Yeah, I have the same complaint— if they had one that matched the gold, I’d do that. Heck, right now they don’t even have a silver (I have two watches). And plus, the ugly gold one doesn’t come in the XL size to cover up the red dot. I’ve thought about maybe white. Maybe black. But... in terms of viewing angle, it seems like people probably wouldn’t see the red dot much?

The red dot faces away from you if you wear it on your left in the usual way, so you don't see it.

No, I know I don’t see it. I meant other people. Because if my arms are facing that direction, with the dot outward, it seems like it would be while moving them around.

Yeah, I was more asking if you guys thought other people really see the dot much (such that I should really be bugged by the fact that red clashes with my band color choices :) )

I just bought a 3 GPS after my series 0 had finally become close to unusable - and was disappointed to see that it didn't have the red dot! So no, it's not a hideous monstrosity and quite swish.

I quite like it. Have a SSSB and it does seem to complement the black. I also never get to see it as it faces away from me :)

It reminds me of a Cartier I had that had the blue sapphire crown - I never noticed it, nor did others.

I have had the 3 from the very start and NO One has ever noticed I changed from Version 2, or ever made a comment about the dot.

I noticed, but didn't want to make you feel self conscious. Don't worry, we rarely talk about it behind your back. Most of us have grown accustomed to it by now.

Conveniently ignoring the $180/yr cost for cellular.

Oh, well...sure, $180 over a year changes everything.

If you make $8K a year.

We're talking about $2 per day...roughly one quarter of the daily tolls on the Mass Pike from Route 128 to Boston.

Giving this idea a nod, though, I will admit that the red crown sort of calls to mind les talons rouges, the 18th century French courtiers who wore red heels to let others know that they were nobles. But I just can't put a ~3mm red dot in that category.

Do the watch dots actually work or tend to fall off with a little use?

Actually, a serious question: how did Apple color the crown? Is it paint (that you could remove with a fingernail or equivalent)? Is it in fact just a sticker? Has anyone tried anything more radical than putting a sticker over the red dot?

Watch dots will function to cover up the digital crown area, but some have posted the results seem rather cheap because they don't fully cover the digital crown or are manufactured incorrectly.

$180 dollars a year may not sound like a lot but it’s paying 45% of the cost of a new Apple Watch annually, for a watch you already bought.

We know it's not a sticker, because if it was, that would defeat the purpose for using Watch dots, which is a sticker that covers up the red digital crown. And if the red dot was a sticker, you would have A large majority of Apple Watch owners peeling it off.

I also researched what the red dot was manufactured of, and I could not find any evidence supporting it otherwise.

Otherwise, some have use a black sharpie marker to cover it up.

You don't have to use cellular. You can opt not to use it. LOL.

It's really not a status symbol any more than an Apple Watch itself is a status symbol. Hell, my S2 was the Hermes and NOBODY noticed except for AW people.

Other people don't give a crap what sort of dot is on the crown of your watch. Nobody really cares that much about other people's watches.

Ha ha - to keep the French going, I will concede: touche! :)

Or a careful application of nail polish of your choice. (I am serious. Use a toothpick.) I have touched up all sorts of things with nail polish over the years. My best effort is my 1990s Bianchi road bike, which is a sort of impossible pearly-metallic light green seafoam color that even Bianchi can't match year to year. You would be *amazed* at how well this stuff can last if you clean the surface with rubbing alcohol or nail polish remover (acetone) first. And needless to say, the color palette that awaits you at CVS or Macy's is literally endless.
