Yeah, I have the same complaint— if they had one that matched the gold, I’d do that. Heck, right now they don’t even have a silver (I have two watches). And plus, the ugly gold one doesn’t come in the XL size to cover up the red dot. I’ve thought about maybe white. Maybe black. But... in terms of viewing angle, it seems like people probably wouldn’t see the red dot much?

every time someone in macrumors complains about the red dot, I have to angle my watch to actually see that its still there. Not sure where I think its going.. but I never see it otherwise. and outside of macrumors its a total non issue.

Yeah, I was more asking if you guys thought other people really see the dot much (such that I should really be bugged by the fact that red clashes with my band color choices :) )

For someone to really have a clear view of the dot they pretty much would have to be kissing the top of your hand. which. if you are into that sort of thing, my guess is the dot doesn't matter, and if you aren't into it, the dot still doesn't matter cause its creepy.

You don't have to use cellular. You can opt not to use it. LOL.

It's really not a status symbol any more than an Apple Watch itself is a status symbol. Hell, my S2 was the Hermes and NOBODY noticed except for AW people.
[doublepost=1517262281][/doublepost]

Other people don't give a crap what sort of dot is on the crown of your watch. Nobody really cares that much about other people's watches.

Agree. Any Apple Watch, even the Hermes, is a yawn as a status symbol. Although, as Tapiture might point out, you would be justified in thinking about that over the relatively short service life of an Apple Watch. It's not a Rolex that's going to be handed down to your grandchildren, after all.

Think of the red dot in these terms. An indicator of features. Bigger brakes, faster car.

Even me wearing the watch will need to deliberately see the dot to notice it, whether on left wrist or right. And I don’t think people will care as much red dot as the watch itself.

I inspected the red dot under a microscope and it appears to be a glass-like material or perhaps a clear plastic material with a high gloss finish that is built into the crown itself, not sure how thick the red dot is depth wise as far as how deep it goes into the crown but it’s certainly not a flat sticker.

Well, not really. Not at all. For starters, if you're wearing a sweater or long sleeve shirt, no one's going to see it, period. Second, do we really think anyone out there notices? And if they do, is there one chance in a million that they say "oh, that person is hip and flush, s/he spent an extra $70 (16.28%) on the LTE version!!!" We gotta get out of the silo, folks, and remember that we live in a world where people can't tell the difference between a 5S (with a home button) and an X, and couldn't care less even if they could.

Yesterday on Daily Mail UK:

"Ikea founder dies aged 91 after setting the business up when he was just 17 and growing it to 412-stores worth $72bn... but still wore second hand clothes and drove a 15-year-old car"

I bet this guy didn't wear a cellular Apple Watch or carry an iPhone X to show off his wealth and status. :)

Got called out by the better half for buying the S3... She didn't care I sept the money but she did notice the red dot. At least two others notched (all female) before I received my watch dots.

FYI Watch dots are awesome. Was a little tricky getting it perfectly center but they stick really well. I even take hot showers with it on and the dot hasn't come off.

Only on macrumors would a topic like this get to 25 pages. And 5 months after release still even be talked about. It’s a complete non issue to me. I don’t see it unles I make myself look at it and then it’s no big deal. I actually use the features of the watch, not stare at the dot on the crown.

I have an aversion to red... I really do hate the color red. I don't own one red article of clothing. When i was looking at Samsung TVs a few years ago they mostly all had a red bezel. I couldn't even bring myself to buy one despite them having the better specifications. When shopping for a car I avoided the ones with red clusters... I almost didn't get the Apple watch for this very reason.

Until i found watch dots.

What's a non issue to you you can be a VERY big deal to someone else. Sure, first word problems. but if we were concerned about that we wouldn't be in here wasting out money on iDevices. If you're not into the discussion you don't have to participate. it's optional.

As is the option to not respond to my non concern of the issue.
You have a nice night.

I am neutral towards the red dot, looks great in some combinations, not so much with some other bands. Definitely not a deal breaker by any means, matter of adjusting.

I can overlook the red digital crown, as I typically don't see it based on the orientation of how I'm wearing the Apple Watch on my wrist anyways.

The enthusiasts do notice the difference.

And, really, how many of them are there? Nearly none in my daily life. Most are either cyber or friends and family who live outside of my daily work/home/play orbit. And more importnatly, none of them are so insecure that they feel threatened by a red dot.

Bingo. Or care, if they do notice.

What makes you so sure that wearing an LTE AW or using an X is trying to show off wealth and status?

Do you mean that if YOU wore an LTE AW or used an X it would be because YOU were trying to show off wealth and status?

I'm calling bull**** on your ability to know why anyone other than yourself is doing either of these.

Because someone has an X and apple watch with a red dot they are showing off their wealth?

If most people made their coffee at home and didn't go to a starbucks or dunkin every day in 5 to 9 months they could buy what ever watch they wanted. So based on your logic someone that gets their coffee from a coffee shop every day is showing off their wealth.

Yeah... I only bought the Hermes because I'd sold a collector's item on eBay for twice what I paid for it and I had a bit of mad money to move up from a regular SS to the Hermes. I did like the watch faces and the strap was nice, but it wasn't worth double the cost of a regular SS to get watch faces and you can buy the strap separately if you want a nice strap for an AW.

I sold the Hermes when I bought my S3 SS and pretty much paid for it from the proceeds, except for AC plus and taxes.

But, to be fair... he couldn't take it with him, so I assume he either liked wearing 2nd hand clothes and driving an old car or he was REALLY intent on leaving a bunch of money for his heirs to squander.

Hey... to each his/her own.

I think it’s a monstrosity. I have an SS SB model and while I don’t think it looks too bad on its own, it clashes horribly with some bands and watch faces.

The SS SB doesn't exactly match most of the available bands in the first place and who can see how a dot looks with a watch face? The watch face is on the front and the dot is on the side. If you're looking directly at the watch face, you don't even see the dot at all.

All things being equal I wouldn't have picked the red dot. That said on my SBSS S3 I don't even notice the dot is red at all anymore, it just doesn't register. I certainly don't think it makes my various bands "clash" or anything.

I do notice the dot on others watches, I can't help but look for it when I see other Apple Watches and so I guess it is serving its purpose showing others that you have the latest and greatest and creating social proof for the Apple Watch. Social proof is a powerful subconscious thing that makes you more secure and happy that you made a good choice and translates to repeat sales.

I hated the red dot in the beginning but now I don't care. I don't see it when I'm wearing the watch and it tells others I have the LTE version. I look at other Apple Watches to see if they have a dot.
