But there will be some posers who take red nail polish and paint their crowns, count on it.
Yeah, but there will be many that take their red crown and paint it some other color (black, for example).

You can mask off the rest of the watch and with some light coats from a spray paint, change your crown's color. Maybe spray a final coat of clearcoat to protect the color.

To me, that would be a lot of work to mask off a tiny object like the Apple Watch just to paint that red digital crown. It's so small, you literally would have to tape off the whole Apple Watch and digital crown without getting paint in between the grooves of the crown. Personally, I don't think that be worth it, being if any paint or residual got on the actual watch itself, It could cause damage.

If painting it that way is too difficult, then simply take a black (or other color) Sharpie and color in the red!

This method would be much safer, versus trying to use spray paint it. I just think trying to paint a little digital crown and taking the risk of damaging the Apple Watch, wouldn't be worth it in my opinion.

But I mean..... it's a sharpie

But I guess that's what some are willing to do to hide this red dot that seems to agitate them. It doesn't bother me, but for others, that might be a method from it being distracting. Or, some are taking a risk by trying to suggest advice by paining it, with spray paint and masking off the whole Apple Watch. I would ask yourself what's a safer method.

While I don't like it in pictures, I am hoping it looks better in person.
As I said earlier in this thread, I HOPE it looks [good] in person. I am cautiously optimistic that it will, as I ended up ordering space black stainless steel from AT&T. Initially, I was disappointed that AT&T is not offering the regular stainless steel model in the 42mm size, but I think the red dot has a better chance of looking good with the space black stainless steel than with the silver colored version.

Getting the space black stainless steel version also disappointed me, at first, because it seemed to me I wouldn't have a wide selection of bands to choose from. As many here are, I am somewhat particular about having things match, such that I won't be getting any of the sport bands that are not available with a space black pin.

However, since the red dot will apparently limit matching band availability, my disappointment over only being able to get space black stainless from AT&T has lessened. All this to say, that I think it will all work out well. I have identified two or three bands (sport, woven nylon) that I think will look good. Of course, the holy grail will be a space black stainless link bracelet, but I won't be shelling out for that one right away.

The background to all of this is that I currently have a series 0 rose gold aluminum model. I have long since said that my next Apple Watch would be silver colored stainless, in order to get the ceramic back, more numerous matching bands and, most importantly, the sapphire crystal.

Two out of three isn't bad, especially with the red dot limiting the number of matching bands.

Sooooo do you know of an app for this forum or?

As one who's had the space black for a couple of years (and about 12 bands and counting), you really don't notice the pin on the sport watch - it's a tiny nub poking out on the opposite side of your wrist (so, unless you try, you rarely see the two of them at the same time). And, yes, I'm obsessive enough that it could bother me, but it doesn't. :)

All of the watch bands I get from Clockworksynergy have the black PVD hardware though. :)

Or get a sticker pack!

Thank you for the reply. For whatever reason, I believe you when you say that you are similarly "botherable" by the sport band pin(s) not matching the watch case(s).

It is so annoying that Apple doesn't sell the numerous sport/other bands with alternate pin/hardware colors, which they already make for inclusion in the box with variously colored watches.

I'm still not sure I can do it, but eventually one of the colors will entice me enough that I will give it a try. Thanks again.

I'm waiting for the next version which will hopefully have a different form factor that does not have the red dot.

If they change the form factor, they better find a way of keeping the watch connectors and width the same. If they don't preserve everyone's investments in their bands, it'll be a bit of a PR clusterf---! :)

In general the red dot doesn't bother me, but I'm getting the rose gold aluminum with pink sand sport band and I think it looks bad on that version. I won't cover it up with anything though as I think that would look worse.

At least it will let others know that you forked out the big bucks for the latest and greatest. Guess they felt a need to make something about it look different.

Well it's not just the red dot on the crown as design cues for the LTE models. They also get an exclusive watch face called Explorer. Now we can feel double special!

From Apple's Press release:

Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS + Cellular) also debuts a special red Digital Crown and exclusive “Explorer” watch face that shows cellular connectivity through a unique design

Apparently the little green dots show the strength of the LTE connection.

Thought maybe it indicated it was made in china/india?

I want to get the S3 with Cellular/SS and will see how it will be intrusive.

Its funny they put the Red crown, but could not put Red on the front face of the ProductRed iPhone

White Ceramic watch with a red dot.. Excited! Everyone will know I have the latest, and most expensive Apple Watch! (Yes, I know it's shallow.. But, I'm a realtor. Successful realtors tend to be flashy as it helps build trust/your brand.)
