I have a Vega FE currently running in a MacPro tower. Fan remains loud but macOS identifies it correctly and it sleeps/wakes up fine.

Sweet JESUS Thank you!!!!! I need these damn things to just work....
[doublepost=1518143069][/doublepost]Does anyone know if we can just replace the kext in 10.13.3 with the new ones in 10.3.4? Much preferred to installing the beta or waiting... I have backups anyways I can do either but installing kext is much faster.

sorry guys, I'm a bit confused:
amd vega does not show the start screen with the possibility to choose the hd?
In the AMD house what are the gpu that allow starting with the apple screen?
I would like to upgrade the ATI 5770 1gb that I have on my MacPro 2010 dual 6x3.46ghz
Thank you.

The last possible option is the R9 280X. AFAIK, anything above that has no practical solution at this moment.

Apple released a second 10.13.4 beta 2 today to correct some graphical issues (build 17E150g). Apparently Feedback Assistant works because they emailed me that they implemented the fix for the blue screen issue with Preview. I just installed it and it's fixed! Photos app is fixed too. Any improvement with Vega?

Certainly appears they're getting close to official eGPU support. Should only continue to help cMP users. Wish they'd start to support NVIDIA out of the box, however. Thankfully the web drivers are great once they're updated.

Are there impractical solutions? I have an RX 560 kicking around, I'd like to see if I can get it working.

As of 10.13.4 beta the card will be recognised correctly, any high sierra version will work with the card so no need to use the beta if you don't want to, but the 10.13.4 beta is the best so far ..... just fit the card into the mac pro.... thats it...it will just work... minus the boot screen option...so if you want to change boot drives on start up you will need to press cmd+r and use boot selector there.

My problem goes beyond "minus the boot screen". I get no video at all, no login screen. I've verified (by moving the RX 560 to another slot and putting my original 5770 in) that 10.13.4 beta 2 does recognize the card.

Which RX560? Not any card can work, there is no data base yet, but it seems those have highly customised PCB (e.g. single slot card) won’t work.

Vega Frontier Edition still has a noisy fan for the second 10.13.4 beta 2, here.

Also, I'm beginning to wonder if Apple will support 60Hz 4K HDMI before I die.

The second 10.13.4 beta 2 refresh killed my RX Vega 64 using a Sonnet breakaway 550 egpu, apple TB3-TB3 adapter & mid 2014 rMBP 750m. When booting up as its decrypting system disk to boot, it never finishes, it starts an endless restart cycle. Up until refresh beta 2 it was working fine, fan noise stopped, sleep worked, & I would get ~ 24000 in Luxmark. I have filed a bug report.

Yeah seems support for TB2 macs has been dropped, at least (and hopefully only) for now

If Apple is not gonna fix this, then this basically means (confirms?) that eGPU is gonna play a big role for the new Mac Pro, and they just don't want the nMP to be able to take advantage of the same setup, forcing users to upgrade their Mac Pro 6.1

Yeah apparently eGPU doesn’t work with TB1 & TB2 Macs anymore. Filing a bug report isn’t going to help because Apple does not support eGPU for those Macs. You’ll need to get a TB3 Mac or cMP to use these current graphics cards.

Yeah, Apple acting as always predictable.

There is no technical reason eGPU's should not work with TB1/TB2.

Sonnet still saying TB3 for the developer kit and TB2 for Mac compatibility (non developer kit):
https://www.sonnettech.com/product/egfx-breakaway-box.html

Still not really sure why three versions of the breakway box are needed. Once this exits beta, hope additional boxes (and manufacturers) are fully supported. The GPU-350W-TB3DEK seems to somehow be different than two other models (GPU-350W-TB3Z and GPU-550W-TB3), especially with power limitations. Seems that they are working on power issues with the beta and TB1/TB2 have limitations they cannot work around.

From Sonnet FAQs:
Every Thunderbolt 3 Macbook Pro will accept Power Distribution, up to 60W for the 13" and up to Thunderbolt 1 and Thunderbolt 2 computers will not accept Power Distribution.

They are also noting this requirement now:
The only configuration to have official plug-and-play beta support with macOS High Sierra 10.13.3 is a Thunderbolt 3 Mac connected to the Sonnet Breakaway Box Developer Edition, which is bundled with Sapphire Radeon PULSE RX 580 8GB card. High Sierra support for the Developer Edition will be beta until spring 2018. Because it is currently beta there are some temporary limitations. For example, the external graphics card currently accelerates only external displays connected to the graphics card. Note that you will not be able to obtain support from Apple or AMD for external graphics under macOS at this time. If you have any issues using any Sonnet product, please contact Sonnet customer service at support@sonnettech.com.

If you are trying to use any other Breakaway product configuration, please contact Sonnet customer service at support@sonnettech.com.

If you are trying to use a Mac equipped with Thunderbolt 2 or Thunderbolt with any Breakaway product, please contact Sonnet customer service at support@sonnettech.com.

I think before anybody flies off the handle and starts spinning wild conspiracy theories, everyone should remember that this is a beta, and that historically AMD and Nvidia GPUs on the same Mac have not played well together.

If Apple was intentionally blocking eGPU on TB2, they'd just nicely ignore it. Not send the system into a tailspin.

Sure. I see your point.

But how could Apple “ignore” it, when it has been working for at least 1-2 year?

My point is they actively needed to block it, because it has always worked.

We had clients using eGPUs for 3D already back in 2016

[doublepost=1509650701][/doublepost]If they don't fix the fan speed issue I may have to switch to the liquid cooled 64. Something to keep in mind if you haven't upgraded yet. Everything else so far appears to be perfect.

When you talk about the liquid could 64, do you mean this one here?

https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1352896-REG/amd_100_506062_amd_radeon_vega.html

To be honest, there are so many GPU companies out there these days, -I am having a hard time to figure out which one would be the card to go. Also there might be many question marks regarding space (how to squeeze in the cooler) and unknown risks regarding the firmware.
If money would not be an obstacle, and reliability and functionality out of the box would be the main driver, which Vega 64 would you go for? How about the strix version compared to the hybrid above ? (Somehow the Sapphire card got discontinued)

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814126232

Is there someone that has the yellow hybrid above, could you elaborate and send some pictures? I think that would be outstanding if the frontier edition hybrid would fit in the old 2010 tower with default drivers in High Sierra.
