That's your opinion.

For others, it's rather Apple is dead and those people are moving over to PC workstations as our next powerful workstations.

I would have probably accepted a AS based machine but given how Apple stuffed me around recently I won't be buying any more new computers from them. I'll stick with platforms that are more open.

My 7,1 was purchased new in end of 2022, it isn't old despite what Apple and it's supporters suggest It's still got plenty of time under AppleCare.
I think you have misunderstood me. If I'm saying AMD and Intel are DEAD, I'm obviously referring to Apple hardware. We are on a Mac forum, after all. Obviously if someone needs a top performance machine, then have no choice but to take a PC. Apple has nothing to offer here. From what I remember, even macOS is limited to 64 threads.
Buying a new Mac Pro in 2022 was hardly a smart decision, when it was already 100% known that this was the end of Intel-based Macs, and MacBook on Apple Silicon is faster than it in most tasks.

I don't think you were misunderstood, I am not sure why you are even posting on this thread at this point even though you are the OP, it's for old Macs using a RX6800XT or 6900XT so Apple silicon is not even relevant here and it's certainly not being helpful.

B Good evening, could anyone help me? I have a Mac Pro 5.1, I bought an Asus RX 6600, I went through the process of modifying the ROM using the PC, but when I installed it on the Mac it shows the video and doesn't recognize it, it just stays.

For all effects, you can’t change GPUs with OCLP. The 7MB is a dead giveaway of this.

If you don’t want to suffer days trying to correctly remove the OCLP root patches, do a clean install.

Just do this and you will recognize it as normal? Can I use this version even as shown in the photo? Or is there a specific Monterey version?

Yes, but without a GPU with pre-boot configuration support you will have trouble booting from the OCLP USB key Monterey installer unless you remove all your disks but the empty one and the OCLP USB-key or have your BootROM reconstructed with EnableGop support.

Go to the Monterey Unsupported thread and ask for help there.

Can I use this version even as shown in the photo? Or is there a specific Monterey version?

12.7.5 is the Monterey current version and works fine.

12.7.5 é a versão atual do Monterey e funciona bem.
Thank you, send me the link so I can ask for help there

Hi I am looking for some help.

I have a mac 5,1 and want to upgrade from the base GPU to rx6600xt msi gaming x.

I got the gpu and tried to test it, the fans were spinning and leds working however there was no display on the monitor.

I later found out that you have to patch the rom of the gpu with another pc which i do not have so I went to my local tech repair shop, followed the yt guide and successfully patched the rom.

We then tested it, it still showed no display but had a couple differences, the boot chime sounded and the leds on my mouse worked.

Here is what I have tried:

1. Using HDMI and DisplayPort and a different monitor.

2. Remounting GPU.

3. Tried to boot into windows 10.

I am only trying to boot into windows 10 as I am using this as a gaming PC.

The Windows 10 install already have the AMD drivers installed? The screen will be black until Windows Update get the drivers, sometimes takes one hour for Windows Update download and install the drivers, is faster if you do it on a PC where you see the screen before installing the Windows 10 disk to the Mac Pro.

You can solve the issue of not having a screen before the GPU drivers are loaded via injection of EnableGop to the Mac Pro BootROM, not required but makes your life so much easier since the GPU works from the moment the Mac Pro is powered up.

Thank you for quick response.

I have not installed gpu drivers on my windows 10 drive. So I should login to windows 10 blind and then wait a couple of hours for windows update to install drivers?

I do not have another pc to install gpu drivers handy. I will have to ask a friend or go back to my nearest pc technician.

I will look into EnableGOP however if the above works I would like to try it now.

YOU ARE AN ABSOLUTE LEGEND. It's all working now only took less than 30 minutes. Should I install official adrenaline drivers and reboot?

Sure, also you'll probably need to run Brigadier and install the BootCamp drivers (iMac Pro ones are the most recent that works with MacPro5,1) for BT/Wi-Fi to work correctly.

If you did not upgrade your AirPort Extreme, just the official MacPro5,1 BootCamp drivers will be enough, but if you upgraded, you gonna need iMac Pro drivers.

I am running windows off of a separate hard drive and not using boot camp. Is this an issue? I heard that I can brick my mac if I don't have opencore but I have been using it for a year now with the old gpu and so far nothing has happened.

If you did a UEFI install, then you are on borrowed time. Confirm it right now:

If you wait for it to fail completely, will be a much more expensive repair.

Btw, you will solve both issues, not having pre-boot configuration support with the RX 6600XT and the Windows SecureBoot sigining of the BootROM with the BootROM reconstruction service.

Ok now I went from super hyped to extremely worried as I am on UEFI.

I actually just plugged in a hard drive from a 5 year old PC and it just worked. This was over a year ago.

Please link some sort of guide or tell me how to do the bootrom reconstruction to make sure I don't brick my mac.

I did not upgrade to airport extreme.

I'll send you a PM (top right corner of the page, letter icon) about the BootROM reconstruction service, files required, service fee and turnaround time.

Is any hope for running 6800XT on Ventura/Sonoma/Sequoia in cMP5,1 with new OCLP 2.0.1?

No, no support for NAVI GPUs after Monterey.

Zero progress with any GPUs later than VEGA with Macs that do not have support for AVX2 instruction set. Polaris (460/470/480/560/570/580/590) are the cards that in general work fine after Monterey, with VEGA (56, 64, VII) working for some types of workflows.

Maybe it's time to buy 7,1... or sell 6800xt and take a 580 from a basement

It’s time to wait just one more moment until owners say goodbye to their dreams and illusions...and then buy 7,1! 😉

I think from now on every half year can make a difference of a few grand, depending on configuration.
