I would have bought locally, but more expensive...

I thought about going to CompUSA, but when I decided I wanted one, nobody in town had the new ones. I ended up ordered online with an educational discount. It saved me $100, plus I'm affiliated with Apple through our web site, so I'll get a check from them for $20 or so in the next couple of months.

The machine is still in Shanghai. I can't wait to see where it goes next!

Hello everyone, first post...

Well I ordered my 17" iMac on the 17th October, it was shipped on the 25th and took 3 days to get on an airplane from Shanghai, no update since the 28th October.

I visited the UK at the weekend and they did have the 17" in the Apple Centre in the Birmingham Bullring. Shame I haven't got mine though

Pesky apple

This is all starting to get annoying

Order my new imac 20" bto with wireless keyboard and mouse with printer and office 30/9/05

imac cancelled by apple on 11/10/05 and replaced with identical spec imac futher down list

new imac comes out 12/10/05, get email about transition that night complete straight away.

then nothing

no new model number nothing

then i ring (from a mobile as i'm at uni, so freephone costs me money)

they say oh u didnt say if u wanted modem or not.

and now ive had the new imac 20" 2.1 sitting at send to manufacturing for over a week.

Also apple have said they have had problems with my card, after they had taken the money from my account. and then due to an 'error' they took another £350 from my account for no reason. i got that back eventually, but still imacless, and very poor as i used my student loan to pay for it and my local education authority is going to repay me once i recieve it. What should i do? i was going to buy an ipod on edu online, but i will take a lower edu rate and buy it from the bluewater store.

Yeah same specs for me too, and boy it's getting tough. I called Apple and asked if i could just downgrade to the 250GB drive to expediate shipping but they said it would only put me at the bottom of the list.

I ordered 2 days after the announcement and the est. ship date is on or before DEC. 5TH. ergh. kill meeee.

Face it, we're all suckers. And since we are all "in the mac family" we can have our arguments and say things we don't mean like "Apple sucks." It's true at the time, like now, so might as well be said.

This iMac fiasco was reminiscent of last year's G5 fiasco, iPod mini delays, on and on --- keep in mind the iMac was released on October 12, nearly a month ago. And still, no consistent delivery and shipment. We're SUCH suckers for our loyalty, it's laughable.

Let's apply Apple's release and marketing strategy to everything else in our lives --- need a textbook for class (4 week delay). Need a dentist appt (4-6 week delay, but new x-ray procedures announced at high tech Cupertino dental facility. check out the quicktime livecast; need a flight for the holidays (4-6 week delay), but cheaper fares were announced at a "one more thing" airlines event by Jet Blue; need to order some groceries (sorry, 4 week delay via Fresh Direct; the organic produce announced is in short supply due to high demand from the 18-24 group). Yea apple, once again.

I placed the order October 28, 2005. Amazon immediately quoted November 2nd as the estimated delivery date and has still not changed that estimate.

Amazon shipments

Hi all. Been following this thread and others since ordering our 20" Imac. Talked to rep at Amazon today. He said they were expecting the 20" Imac from their supplier on Nov. 7 and will start shiping then. I hope that's true. We ordered last week. Our estimated ship date was for today, Nov. 1st. Fingers are crossed and hoping that's true. IN the mean time, we are enjoying our newly arrived 20" acd for the powermac. It's niiiice!

My order has been changed to "Preparing Shipment", so it looks like things are going to plan, that should mean most delivery estimates are quite accurate, at least for stock machines anyway.

Whoo!

preparing to ship... what does it mean

what does it all mean..... does it mean apple arent really ready to ship but going to dragg it out for another 2 weeks, or does it mean my 20" is truely soon to be leaving china...

how long will it be like this????

Preparing Shipment means that the machine has been built and is probably being put in a box and onto a truck. You can't change or cancel your order, so it's most likely past a point where the factory can take it back, i.e. in a box and on a truck.

I can't see this status lasting for more than a day or two (if even), before it changes to "Shipped". Someone with a bit more experience may know best, the last four times I ordered hardware, three separate times it was sent from China the same day (iBook, PowerBook and iPod nano) and the other time it was sent direct from the UK (standard iPod).

Shouldn't be too long now I hope!

Amazon has updated my estimated ship and delivery dates to:

Shipping estimate: November 2, 2005
Delivery estimate: November 4, 2005

Could it be true this time?
It may be bad form to quote myself  , but Amazon has processed my credit card this morning (I received a call from my credit card company because it was a large amount)!

Finally!

My Amazon order for the 20" iMac now says "Shipping Soon" with an estimated delivery on Friday.

It's about freaking time.

For those who are trying to estimate their Amazon ship date, I placed the order on October 14.

Good luck to everyone else who is waiting. :)

oooh

now it seems to be moving.

it now says shipped on all my items although i have been given tracking numbers for everything apart from the imac.....

it says: Carrier : Kuhne & Nagel
spedition s.a r.
Tracking Number(s) ******************

anyone got a clue where and what this means as the tracing numbers dont have any relavence on the tracking site, and as the imac oesnt have one apart from it being shipped i presume they not togethter

I placed my order for a stock 20" iMac a week ago yesterday. Apple's site now sais it'll be shipped by Nov.7....... only thing that really pisses me off is that if it's gonna take them two weeks to ship it, they should just say it's gonan take two weeks! none of this 'Ships in 7-10 days' crap.

Oh well, I'm excited still and am just trying to focus on all the massive amounts of schoolwork I have while I wait for it which. Man I can't wait for this thing......
