i pre-ordered my 20" with stock setup the very day that apple announced the new imacs, i am getting mine through the ubc university bookstore here in vancouver. (educational discount :) )

so far.. not a single 20" imac has been able to reach the university bookstore yet. NOT ONE.

i have pestered the sales people there repeatedly and finally got an answer last week saying that most likely, they will receive the machines in the store on november 17th :(

arrrrgh. i am feeling a little stupid here, since this is my first time buying a mac i guess its ok that i didnt know what to expect. i should have done some research into apple's typical procedures when announcing a product and then actually shipping it to its customers and distributors. because i now know that this sort of thing is standard procedure with them.

they like to have their fancy pants key note speeches where steve jobs gets to wank off in front of the world and get everyone applauding and salivating over his miraculous creations... all the while knowing that there is no way on earth that he can supply even 1% of the demand that he creates. but we are all indeed suckers... we all just follow the carrot and dont mind the arse shafting that we take waiting and waiting. because in the end, macs are the bomb and osx is the bomb.

i just wish, with all the goddamned money that jobs has and all the goddamned profits apple has made over the last year.. they would increase their manufacturing output to meet the bloody demand for these new products. there is a trend here man! wake up!

hey strann enjoy the anticipation! i have gone thru this with several ipods and my present old imac g4. this is the price of being at the bleeding edge of mac technology. you could skip your education discount and go buy a new imac at simply computing on broadway or i bet ubc still has those prehistoric rev. 2 imacs that came out in may. i wonder if they give less priority to us edu. discounters? perhaps if these things werent so cool they wouldnt be in such demand. lets face it they have a very captive audience so they can delay all they want and all i will do is go nuts waiting and keep on whining in this post!:)

i ordered my imac the day the new model was announced and waited almost 3 weeks to get it, but my last one (also a brand new model in its day) arrived in 2 days even though they told me it would take 7 to 10 business days plus shipping time to arrive. maybe sometimes things happen beyond their control (supply, tech, or otherwise). maybe not. either way, it's really hard to wait! :(

For anyone interested, my 20" iMac (stock) shipped today.

Ordered: 21/10/2005
Expected shipping date: 4/11/2005
Actual: 3/11/2005

Hopefully I will see it within the next 7-10 working days, though it has to "Merge in Transit" with a 60GB iPod and an Applecare box, which I'm sure will delay it somewhat.

So it seems, at least for me, things are on time. Hopefully some others got some good news today!

What's up PCheese?

You've gone quiet since you said it shipped.
Have you received your iMac? I hope it's what you wished for.

I've got one listed as 'preparing for shipment' today, was looking to see how long I'm waiting from here,

Rog.

Pffff, I'm still waiting for my tiny 17" 1gig RAM 250 HDD Wireless KB - it's in Amsterdam by the looks of it.

I called Flextronics - that's Apple's logistics in Holland - to see what was going on but they just directed me to Apple aftersales. Poor girl on the line must have had a lot of calls from people pissed with waiting - she told me that there was a "2 day delay" on shipments from Shanghai so rather than the 7 to 10 working days quoted it was more like 9 to 12 but probably 10.

That means I'll miss the weekend with it - booooo, my first Mac too :(

You can't beat walking into a shop, handing over your money and walking out with the goods. Unfortunately, here in Belgium there are no Apple centres only moronic re-sellers that haven't got a clue about customer care.

Tomorrow!

Amazon.com has shipped my iMac 20" (Insight) today. Next-day air, and it will be mine tomorrow. I had ordered it October 28th -- only one week! $150 Rebate and $50 Amazon credit card bonus plus no sales tax, but $33 shipping for next-day. May things go as well for the rest of you.

ya know, that pisses me off. I ordered October 22. And From day one I had an estimated shipping date of december 28th. I've called countless times and received BS canned responses each time. Today they finally bumped me up to sometime between November 15th and 22nd. Now, you who ordered almost a week later than me, gets yours shipped today and they are still telling me 2-3 weeks from now.

what the hell are they doing? Is it because you went for their credit card? I really wish I knew what was going on.

Very frustrating and I'm tired of calling them and trying to get them to tell me the truth. :\

My iMac 20" shipped a few days ago, but it doesn't seem to have done much on the TNT tracking webpage (I'm in the UK):

01 Nov 2005 21:27 Shanghai Shipped From Originating Depot
01 Nov 2005 09:54 Shanghai Consignment Received At Transit Point

Anyone else in the UK with the same status on the TNT tracking webpage ? It has been at this status for 4 days now !

Also, do you know if it has to go via the Netherlands (as my iPod did) or will TNT ship directly to the UK from Shanghai ?

Thanks,
Mark

Mark, from my experience K&N take it from China and bring it to the Netherlands, where they hand it to TNT, then on to the UK. I could be wrong but this is the usual route taken.

Anyone else notice the Order status pages at Apple have a new look?

Well I was wrong... I can't believe you ordered your imac after me and yours is already shipping.. I just sent amazon a letter basically asking "WHAT THE #$#"

Good luck and enjoy new imac (Just to double check... it was one of the new imacs with built in isight, correct?)

Hi all, new here but have been lurking and following the thread. After trying to wait and see what was going on with Amazon and the situation with the 20" I just couldn't wait any longer. I just ordered a new 20" iMac from Amazon with next day shipping, and my estimated ship date is Nov. 7th. I just hope to gods this is correct. This will be my first new Mac since 1999 (!). I am hopelessly old school Apple fangirl and behind the times. My Strawberry iMac G3 is seriously ready to go to the old Macs home, lol.

I can't wait to start playing with OSX.

Thanks! It is a new 20" iMac with iSight, and it was loaded on the UPS delivery truck this morning at 06:57:20... But I won't see it until after work today. :D

BTW, go ahead and give Amazon a piece of your mind, while I am busy singing their praises! ;)

Is there only one flight per week from the Netherlands or something?

And how come our Macs were scanned at the exact same time for shipping? I bet they're sat next to each other on a palette somewhere at the airport. Looking at past orders, I predict that the statuses will update tonight and we should have them on Tuesday.

Well I called up Amazon and tore them a new ******* last night.

Apparently they decided to give priority to everyone who PAID for shipping with those who chose overnight and 2 day shipping the first shipments. It didn't matter when you ordered. If you decided to pay and pay more than anyone else for shipping they bumped you up in the line. And preference is given to amazon credit card purchasers as well.

I told them this was complete ******** and unacceptable and misleading. Basically screamed at them.

Now, all of a sudden they are capable of shipping my iMac today and bumped me up to 2 day shipping for no charge.

What a bunch of jackasses at that company. But you can't beat the price.

Garry - I really hope you are right about us getting the iMac next Tuesday as when I phoned Apple a few days ago they said even though it had 'shipped' it wouldn't actually be with me until around the 14th November

I just hope you are right...

Thanks,
Mark :D

I can confirm this... I called and the answer was "So sorry for your concern but we commit to Dec 21'st as the latest we will ship the product" I pointed out that the web page said one to two weeks and I knew someone (well I feel like I know psean at this point) who got his after ordering more than a WEEK after I did.

She again apologized and wanted to know if there was anthing else she could do, I said "Yes, put someone on the phone who can fix this"..

10 minutes later she confirmed my iMac ships out today for arrival on monday.

So here is the rub.. I am an Amazon prime member which means I get free 2nd day shipping and $3.99 for overnight. When I placed the oirder I paid for overnight ($3.99) but since this is basically free and they take a big hit on an overnight ship at this price my guess is I fell in the 'unfavorable' category.

So now we know how Amazon treats their customer's, especially someone who actually paid for Amazon Prime ...

I wish they would just be up front especially to people who actually paid for Amazon Prime and say "You will get cheap shipping but we can decide to make you a 2nd class citizen"

Now I want my shipping refunded! Just kidding -- I'm thrilled to get mine when I get home today. And the price is wonderful, even with shipping charges.

I seriously could not believe what they were telling me on the phone. I never thought a company would work like that. It's such BS.

I'm very happy I found this thread and saw that psean had his ship so quickly. Otherwise I would have been waiting till december and getting no where with Amazon.

Exactly.. if you go back a few pages in this thread I told psean he was crazy and posted my ship/order date to prove it.

psean gave me 2 months of imac goodness...

I'm seriously pissed right now at Amazon which is too bad because up until now I've been a huge fan...
