Still think june

With what apple are threating with leaks now i think leaks might be minimal now.

Thanks, I thought so. So the lack of rumors of an upcoming release is just as likely due to there not being a release as it is a tightening of leaks.
Since the internal memo about leaks was also immediately leaked, I think that’s good evidence that the leaks didn’t magically stop.

I'm voting "no" on iPad Pro in June. March 2019 would make the most sense, as Apple could use an A12X chip. They wouldn't introduce an A12X this fall, as it would be cannibalizing A12 needed for profit-making iPhones.

Technically, they could update the iPP lineup in June with A11X, but it's not like the A10X + 4GB of RAM is slow, by any stretch. I also don't think they're ready for FaceID or even solid home button, yet. FaceID is still too new and commands a premium via iPhone X. I think the iPad is something that stays unlocked longer, and doesn't need the facial capability of an iPhone, which might get glanced at 100x per day. Also Taptic Engine is not as compelling in tablet as it is on a phone. So unlikely to see solid state home button.

By March 2019, some of the above priorities could change, so that would be a good time for a hardware update along with A12X. But it just doesn't make sense anytime before then.

The iPhone is usually at the vanguard of new technology when released with the iPad catching up considerably later.

For instance, the iPhone went retina in October 2011, but it took a further 2 releases of the iPad for it to follow suit in February 2013.

I’d say there won’t be an update of the Pro with iPhoneX-like features until at least early 2019.

I could see September 2018. March 19? No way. Too far out. There’s fairly credible rumors about an X style iPad for this year. Bit strange we haven’t seen any recent news, but, that’s nice too. The X was pretty much revealed before the event. It’ll be fun to see something unexpected and a real surprise. Still hoping for WWDC. If not I’d bet money we’d see something before the end of the year.

People also have to remember the events from last year.

There was no detailed information about iPad Pro except from Kuo who simply said there would be a 10.5" thin-bezel A10X device. No component leaks, photos, or anything else. It wasn't until WWDC we saw it.

TSMC just announced mass production of their 7nm process noting several partners eager to use the process for products (proccesors). I’m expecting a June refresh with 7nm A11X proccesors but we won’t see a redesign till Holiday 2018 at the earliest.

And I and everybody else thought he was getting this one wrong because it made no sense whatsoever that Apple would change the display size so soon after introducing the 9.7 Pro. But he had it right.

The best scenario would be the announcement of refreshed IPP’s (current design with A11X) at the same keynote that introduces the new design iPad “X” arriving “later this year.” Then everyone who wants Touch ID in a refresh can get it and everyone who wants a new design can wait for it.

I disagree, as much as I wish Apple would use their premium processors in the iPads, historically they update to the 'x' version right before the new regular processor is released. Apple is also likely (or is it verified already?) to announce developer tools at WWDC that ease simultaneous iOS/macOS development. Announcing a new iPP makes a lot of sense to highlight new potential for developers.

I also think FaceID makes more sense on an iPad (or laptop) than a phone. The only reason it was released on a phone first is ... well, Apple is now a phone company. Same reason their A-series processors always debut on the iPhone.

I don't see Face ID making more sense on an iPad. People generally unlock their phones far more frequently than they unlock their tablets and laptops.

Besides, that logic doesn't hold up when factoring in things like 3D touch. It's still not on any iPad. Some say that Apple can't implement it on the iPad. But that is simply conjecture, Apple hasn't stated that.

But just a chip refresh? I wouldn't expect a hardware change... I'm just saying the list of the hardware features the iPad Pros "need" is just very short right now. And the A10X just blazes. Seems like a move to the A11X wouldn't be so compelling? And the A10X is bound to stay around for several years, as it powers the Apple TV 4K. So it's not like they have to discontinue it.

Look at the A10 vs A11 and tell me a A11X doesnt sound compelling. I couldn’t be more excited for a processor.

I'm a huge fan of "latest and greatest". I currently have iPhone X and 8, iMac Pro, as well as two of the 10.5 iPad Pros.

Yet, I think we're at the point of diminishing returns for the current hardware factor, when it comes to CPU/GPU on the iPad Pros. The A10X is as fast as a base MacBook Pro for a lot of things. I guess I don't do a lot of video editing on the iPad Pro, so I'm not sure which of my day-to-day tasks would see substantial improvement going from A10X->A11X.

I want to buy the 10.5 iPP but I want to see if they're getting an upgrade first !!! I think I have to wait :( Or does anyone think I should get one already?!
Depends on the configuration/price. A heavily discounted 64GB Wi-Fi? Sure. Full price 512GB LTE? I'd wait.

Yep. I picked up my second 10.5 iPP (this one 64GB Wi-Fi) because it was $100 off and Best Buy gave me $240 credit for 9.7 iPP. So I was only out of pocket ~ $350, which will be easy to recoup if for some reason I want to upgrade it in 2018. I also consider it more of a "daily driver". I haven't cracked an iPad in 5+ years, but it has a higher potential to get dropped because of how I use it (with a case of course!). I have a 256GB LTE 10.5 as well, but I keep that one with the ASK attached, and it's better for travel and watching movies/shows out of the house.

Well, you can potentially be waiting quite a while. (some believe that the wait is only a few weeks, others think a few months, I think it will be longer)

Consider what it is about the current 10.5 that you aren't satisfied with that can possibly be updated with a newer model. How disappointed would you be if you bought one now only to have an updated model come out 3-6+ months later? If you could buy a new one within the next 1-2 weeks that has been discounted $150, would it be worth that disappointment?

I don't understand the buyers guide having the 10.5" with a "caution" tag and the 12.9" as "neutral" when they were both released June 2017. Meanwhile the Macbook Pro has a "don't buy" for the same release date?

I am waiting for June in the hope all three items are updated. If they are not I'm gonna feel hella dispointed as I have no tablet right now and only a desktop (missing my digital comics). Missed out on a Surface Book 2 offer so Macbook Pro and ipad better come through!

Not seeing discounts in the UK for any of the current gen IPP's as I could be tempted. Kinda jealous reading about them Best Buy and Staples deals in the states.
