Time, because it rules EVERYTHING!
I have experienced that shutter lag on iPhones before. Was your problem in dim or indoor lighting? I think my iPhones were hunting for focus then. I didn't notice as much of this behavior in one of the iterations of iOS 9. I wonder if it has creeped back in again in iOS 10. I'm going to have to test that. I've got a few important events I want to record and photograph and I want all my cameras in ready shape. I might even drag my DSLR to one of them even though DSLRs are increasingly getting the stinkeye at these things and are very conspicuous.

That's exactly it. It was indoors low light but still daylight, no indoor lights were on. There was noticeable lag.

It's stupid to say this is an iPhone forum as this is the "alternative to iOS" section.

It's 20-freaking-16 and I expect my phone to perform fast and as smooth as butter. The iPhone delivers. Android doesn't. The iPhone is also very capable. End of story for me.

My Nokia 3310 is very capable too.

Depends on what you do, need and want.

Mine doesn't lag. My galaxy was lagging machine. I would have rather had my old s4 over that pos s7. bad thing about it is when I bought them I bought 4 they all done the same sh*t. I won't go back to one. I had an lg g2 back when they came out that wasn't a bad phone, but galaxy and there touchwiz is a joke.
My husband and I haven't experienced an undue amount of lag with any of our Samsung devices. They are slower than the latest iPhones but not to the point we are frustrated with them. What my husband experienced with his S7 Edge was random severe battery drain. He found an app--sorry, I keep forgetting to get the name from him--that will identify and manage rogue processes that start running in the background and drain the battery. It is possible that in the case of my S7 those processes were also causing the random overheating I was experiencing. I turned my S7 back in to AT&T in exchange for my replacement Note 7, so we never did fully troubleshoot that phone. And no, I did NOT like my S7. I was having problems with it that most other S7 owners I've talked to don't have. But some do.

I think you may be here with a bit of a confrontational attitude but I will accept at face value that you are sincere in saying you gave Samsung a fair try and did not like your experience with them.

My time with Samsung phones so far tells me a few things. One, their management needs to grow up. Rushing the Note 7 out knowing full well they were going to have to compromise safety testing is symptomatic of an undisciplined, immature managerial mindset. They deserve every bit of scorn and derision and mistrust the public can heap on them for the Note 7 debacle.

Their constant baiting of Apple in ads and public commentary and their stupid publicity stunts like back when they were giving promotional items to people standing in line for iPhones is also symptomatic of this juvenile managerial mindset.

The overheating problem I and many other owners sprinkled around various forums have reported tells me they have a serious QC problem. Trust me, I'm not blindly handing over my money. I'm well aware of camera glass spontaneously cracking for some owners. Of the vulnerabilities of the GG5 edges to shattering. Of reports of overheating and yes, spontaneous combustion that may be legit among the many fraudulent claims out there.

The fact that my husband had to hunt down an app to control rogue processes to keep them from draining his battery and rendering his S7 Edge almost useless as a daily driver tells me there are issues with either Android or Touchwiz or both. These issues mean these phones aren't necessarily phones we will be wanting to pass along to my sister-in-law or any of our parents because they need a certain ability to manage and oversee and understand the phone on a level the iPhone user usually doesn't need to worry about. So we definitely will be keeping the rest of our family on iPhones. At least the older iPhones. (I'm having a whole other boatload of concerns about iPhone 7's that will have to be set aside for now.)

So I keep all those caveats and concerns in mind as I behold the beauty, functionality and joy of ownership that comes with my Note 7 so far. I would not recommend this phone to everybody. It's overkill for a lot of people I know and does require more discretion about downloading and managing apps than many iPhone owners are used to. You now also need a bit of thick skin and a sense of humor to shrug off the derision and hysteria over the exploding battery debacle. But if you have specific use cases, only the Note series can meet them, and the Note 7 may be the best Note of them all.

I think if the management of Samsung can learn from their mistakes and make smart choices to win back customer confidence, they can really turn a corner here. I know that when they pay attention to detail, they can produce an incredible device. But if they become full of arrogance and idiocy they can sabotage their beautiful products. They need to focus on quality, consistency, and customer service.

Meanwhile it seems Apple and other Android manufacturers aren't having such a great 2016 so far, either. Problems with iPhone abound on a level I've never seen plague a new iPhone release before.

LG customers are spitting venom about bootlooping problems. That concern is overshadowing what should be a joyous anticipation of the LG V20. People will say nice things about the V20 but in the next breath say they hope it doesn't bootloop like V10's are starting to do.

On an individual basis customers can get lucky and end up with the best iteration of just about any model from any manufacturer out there. But now more than ever before, it seems to be a real lottery even with the once reliable and exemplary Apple. Before, we mainly were concerned with cosmetic defects when it came to Apple. Now there is loud hissing and signal issues that render some phones unusable for some key functions.

Be an informed, aware consumer and study your options with as much objectivity as you can muster. And realize nothing stays the same and so much is in flux now that you can't afford to hold onto preconceptions, positive or negative, indefinitely in today's market.

Sorry for such a long post. I'll be heading into a busy week and weekend with my family so I'm not sure how much opportunity I'll have to pop in and participate this week.

You all have a great week!

I am making my hardest decision between the Pixel XL and the iPhone 7 Plus this week. The iPhone has the better apps but being more of a power user I could just go ahead with Android too just for the infinite customisation possiblities and IMO Google Nexus phones are more smoother than iPhones.

Just wait until the announcement. :) I'm in the same boat as you!

Edit - I'm also waiting to see some hands-on coverage from the press.

I would pick a note 7 over the iphone 7 plus just because of 1 simple reason. I hate the bulkiness of the plus.

The Iphone is boring because a lot of things just work and there's no workaround you have to search for to fix an issue. With Samsung's theres always some kind of problem you're going to encounter and you have to constantly search for a way to fix the issue. But on the upside, Samsung's do have some features that Iphones don't, like fast charging and a gorgeous display, and the s pen is a pretty cool feature in the Note's.

That's your opinion not a fact. Fact is better depends on your usage and what you want and need.
Best display on the planet
Best camera on the planet
Wireless Charging including PMA and Qi
Iris scanner
NFC and Expandable memory
Awesome Screen to body ratio which makes these iPhone bezels look dated
Samsung Pay
S-Pen

Did I mention the best looking smartphone?

Did I mention the best looking....

-best display; firm possibility of a definite maybe.
- best camera; ship has sailed on this.
- wireless charging - yes
- iris scanner; I unlock my phone as I pull it out of my pocket...faster than an iris scanner
- NFC and expandable memory - ok
- awesome screen to body ratio - opinion states as fact
- Samsung pay - wasn't it hacked? Seems like a negative. http://www.theverge.com/2016/8/9/12410716/samsung-mobile-pay-token-hack-defcon
- s pen sure that seals the deal.:p

That pen is just a gimmick after all of these years... only time when I see people use it is when they just received their notes then after a month or two they even forgot that it's even there. Lol

No, it isn't - don't let it fool you. It looks nice and fun, but Samsung's update policy is disastrous as always, it's still filled with bloatware and after one or two years, you will end up with a sluggish and abandoned device.

While I agree that the hardware is tempting, it's a bit like a secret affair - exciting for the moment but nothing you'd ever want to settle with. o_O

If you want to go Android, at least take a Nexus - miles ahead of all those crappy manufacturer skins.
Talk about biased personal hyperbole..

2 can play that game.. I have 2 one year old Samsung devices..a s6 edge plus and a tab S , both are flawless, and as fast right now as the day I got them. Are mine unique, I don't know, but I certainly wudn't try and pass my experience (if it really ever happened) as the worldwide experience of Samsung devices...

Wait I'm confused, you are saying what Killamac said was fact since the Note 7 is better for his usage and what he wants and needs.

In all seriousness your post, and the ones you quote illustrate perfectly the idiocy of the entire conversation. Of course this is all based on opinion pending a users wants and needs. I also find it fascinating when someone does say "fact" how many people jump on them as if they insulted their baby or broke into their home. Lol, they are only phones, inanimate material objects created to part your money from your wallet to a corporation.

This is the way an online Internet forum seems to operate. It's like saying fact: vanilla is better than chocolate. I would expect some lively conversation around it, even though it's only ice cream...an inanimate object. No different here.

Best display on the planet... if oversaturated burning-in PenTile is your thing
Best camera on the planet... a few months ago
Wireless Charging including PMA and Qi... plugging stuff in is so inconvenient
Iris scanner... still slower than fingerprints and won't work with glasses
NFC and Expandable memory... for people who desperately want to add slow storage to their phones while bumping each other to share stuff
Awesome Screen to body ratio which makes these iPhone bezels look dated... accidental palm input has never been so sexy until now
Samsung Pay... hacker-friendly, too
S-Pen... "yuck" - Jteve Sobs
Improvised oven and/or BBQ igniter
Keeps you warm in the winter
Can explode at any p-
Fixed that for you

Lol, yeah. But it gets tiresome when the conversation is based around nothing. Reminds me of Seinfeld, where it was based on nothing, just the interaction of characters and their situations. "Fact: Vanilla is the best because it's white and tastes better" ... "Whoa, I take that as a personal affront, that's not how "facts" work, but I believe chocolate is better because it's sweeter tasting, now that's IS a fact". And so on, so on, so on until someones head explodes, or a mod closes it down. PLEASE someone make a sitcom based on these forums!!!

That's your opinion but it's not fact. Fact is Note 7 is better.
Galaxy's suck, back when the s4 and note 3 were new that was when galaxy done it right. Those were great phones. These newer ones suck they lag constantly and battery doesn't last very long. I use to be a hardcore android fan mostly Samsung but they went down hill, the s7 was the last for me. And I wouldn't be bragging up the note 7 when they can't even put a battery in that won't blow up.

These android phones are becoming incredible value.
My main phone will always be iPhone (6 at the moment)
But I also have a Moto E with a 128GB micro sd card for under £80.00 for offline Google Play Music in the car.
So you can have both now.
Always good to have a spare phone like spare spectacles.
