i love coming back here each year, the drama, the saga, the hurricanes. its fun and awful all at the same time. the planes, the arrival scans... etc..
IT'S THE MOST WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR!!

I think someone posted either here or elsewhere the usual "Fact Sheet" of what to expect, including the UPS flight tracker at FlightAware.

It's great fun, isn't it? I saw the Fact Sheet earlier, but I didn't bookmark it: now, I've got to hunt for it. Happy tracking! :)

Does anyone recall from previous years what carrier Apple tends to use for delivery? I have ordered from carriers, and Apple directly but can't remember what Apple uses as opposed to VZ and TMo.

Apple uses FedEx and UPS. If memory serves, phones and watches come via UPS in my area (Phoenix metro area) ... they do use FedEx for some accessories and for computers.

I made a new thread with this info, but it got lost into oblivion, so I’ll paste it here, in case anyone may find it useful!

It's that time of year again! I have gathered together a bunch of useful info for tracking your iPhone order (if you order it through Apple), perhaps the mods can sticky this, as I think people will find it helpful and it may help prevent duplicate question threads.

So, order date is in a few hours, 12:01am Pacific time on the 14th. Delivery date is the 21st.
This same info will work for those of you holding out for the iPhone XR later on!

Once our orders move to processing we should start seeing some movement to 'preparing for shipment' over the weekend.
Once this happens you should be able to get details on your phone and let the tracking begin!

Here are some notes to help track orders:

If your phone status has changed to "Shipped", you can view the invoice on the Apple site.
That invoice has the serial number on it.

Go to Apple.com, then pick the ORDERS page (the little "shopping bag" icon at the far right on the home page... go to your orders page). Now, log in, and find your iPhone order... and click on Print All Invoices to see your shiny new iPhone serial number.

You can look up the week of manufacture and factory here, using the serial number:
http://www.chipmunk.nl/klantenservice/applemodel.html
or
http://sndeep.info/en

Links for tracking:

http://www.ups.com/WebTracking/reference?loc=en_US
https://www.fedex.com/apps/fedextrack/?action=altref&cntry_code=us

Another way to find it, enter your phone number + zip:
https://www.villagedrapes.com/html/tracking.html

If your phone number isn’t working for UPS tracking, use your order number but subtract the last two numbers/letters. Say your order number is: W123456789, you'd put in: W1234567 - make sure to use the tracking by reference feature.

Flight info:
http://flightaware.com/live/fleet/UPS
http://flightaware.com/live/iphone
When you see the time that your flight leaves China (make sure that the UPS or FedEx info is showing it per China time, or do the math), and you can usually narrow it down

Have fun!!

Here it is! Thank you!

It's very nice getting the device at 8 am when the UPS Customer Center opens! I've done that for several iPhone releases. I pick it up, and I have the rest of the day to set it up and enjoy the device. I don't understand why having it held for pickup was stressful to the other person: I find it more stressful waiting around all day and worrying that the driver will attempt delivery when I'm in the bathroom, etc. Sometimes they don't leave the package even with a signature release form on the door (sometimes, they don't attempt delivery but say that they did). Anyway, if you have a Customer Center within reach, I think that's the best way to go.

That's hilarious because you pretty much stole the thoughts straight out of my head!!! Whether it's waiting on a delivery I have to sign for, or a service guy to show up (like plumbing, electric)...I am so paranoid that I will pick the exact WRONG time to go to the bathroom. Plus...I have two little yappy dogs and when the door bell rings they go NUTS, which is stressful as well.

I'm definitely thinking that I will give the UPS Customer Center option a try this year. Hopefully, since it's a main hub that all deliveries originate from and not an off shoot site, it won't result in a delay.

Seems like some of us were able to change the shipping address, while some not. Not sure what's the reason. I was able to change mine about an hr ago.
Hmm hopefully I can change the shipping address to my work address so I can sign for the package next Friday. I was able to change my Apple Watch S4 shipping address with no problem this morning (edit button on the order page) but it looks like my iPhone XS order is locked with no edit button. Ordered both at around ~12:10am PT this morning.

Smooth as silk this year, which is nice for a change. It seems to me that after years of instant sell-outs Apple finally got their act together on initial inventory.

I ordered at 12:03 on the Apple Store app. The Web site didn’t load until 12:10, but I was long since finished by then. I’ve been on IUP since the program debuted, so I was already pre-approved for the upgrade and ready to go the day before. It was a one click operation once the app came online.

iPhone Xs Max, Space Gray, 256g, ATT. Delivers on the 21st to my house. I usually do in store pickup but skipped it this time.

I’m psyched for this phone. I loved my iPhone Plus models and have always felt that the X was too restricted in landscape mode. The Max looks like exactly what I was hoping for: an 8 Plus sized phone with an edge to edge OLED display. Can’t wait!

Same here. It says according to my carrier, the phone must be delivered to the billing address. It sucks I am at university and cannot get it shipped here. (Billing address is home)

Once I get a tracking number, and it starts moving, I call UPS and ask them at which hub that my package will be put on the truck (it's always the same one): after they confirm it for me, I go online in my UPS MyChoice account and select that location for pickup.

One year while waiting for a new iPad on launch day, I watched the FedEx driver, in this case, get out, see my signed release form on my front door, put the iPad back in the truck and get a door tag to say that he attempted delivery. I met him outside, and he said that he has the discretion to not deliver if he thinks its not safe to leave it on the porch. Anyway, if I hadn't been looking out the window, I would have had to wait another day or pick it up at FedEx later.

That's the great thing about having a webcam pointed at the front door.

I hate having an iPhone shipped to me because I am usually at work, and it always turns into an ordeal where I end up asking them to hold it for pickup. It's much easier for me to just schedule a pick-up at the Apple Store. Then I know exactly where to go, and when to go there. I know it's not an option for everybody, but I highly recommend it for people with an Apple Store nearby. They are very efficient if you have a pre-order.

My dog is always on alert for Amazon, UPS, Fedex of the USPS. HAHA. Goes bonkers when they trigger my RING doorbell.

Got in to the app at 12:02. iPhone Xs Max 64GB Silver. Delivery 9/21. They already charged the taxes.

I'm doing UPS pickup but also working from home that day. Worst case I'll just wait for it... but as long as you get your hold in early enough it works great.
[doublepost=1536946592][/doublepost]

You can have it held at a facility. I'm not sure about routing to another address. There is a release form you can fill out and sign via your order info on apple's site and UPS will drop it as long as they deem it safe to do so (still at driver discretion).

Perfect, thank you. I imagine the options wont show up till it changes to shipped?

Now that's real dedication!

I have also always scored a launch day phone, but less than half the times it's from preordering and the other half I have to wait in line, since the Apple site would always crash or hang up me until and I'd have to get in line.

Luckily, in the midsize city that I live in I found that most people in line by 3AM on launch day will usually get the phone they wanted (6 hour wait).
Last year I was on a boat on the Douro River in Portugal when ordering began for the iPhone X. I could not get wifi. Frustrating! When we got to Porto with wifi, I had a December date. Finally got my X at my Apple Store right before Thanksgiving. So grateful to have 9/21 Arrival this year, We leave for Ireland & Netherlands on 10/8
