Once your phone ships you should be given a tracking number. If you track it using UPS it will give you a departure scan when it is scanned while being loaded on a plane. Then you get on flight aware and find the plane that closely matches your departure scan and location and watch it cross the ocean. Then when it’s gets to Alaska you get to do it all over again.

There is also a post earlier in this thread that I copy and pasted on my notes for reference. I don’t remember who posted it originally but it has all then pertinent information.

Edit: originally posted by vtboyarc

“I made a new thread with this info, but it got lost into oblivion, so I’ll paste it here, in case anyone may find it useful!

It's that time of year again! I have gathered together a bunch of useful info for tracking your iPhone order (if you order it through Apple), perhaps the mods can sticky this, as I think people will find it helpful and it may help prevent duplicate question threads.

So, order date is in a few hours, 12:01am Pacific time on the 14th. Delivery date is the 21st.
This same info will work for those of you holding out for the iPhone XR later on!

Once our orders move to processing we should start seeing some movement to 'preparing for shipment' over the weekend.
Once this happens you should be able to get details on your phone and let the tracking begin!

Here are some notes to help track orders:

If your phone status has changed to "Shipped", you can view the invoice on the Apple site.
That invoice has the serial number on it.

Go to Apple.com, then pick the ORDERS page (the little "shopping bag" icon at the far right on the home page... go to your orders page). Now, log in, and find your iPhone order... and click on Print All Invoices to see your shiny new iPhone serial number.

You can look up the week of manufacture and factory here, using the serial number:
http://www.chipmunk.nl/klantenservice/applemodel.html
or
http://sndeep.info/en

Links for tracking:

http://www.ups.com/WebTracking/reference?loc=en_US
https://www.fedex.com/apps/fedextrack/?action=altref&cntry_code=us

Another way to find it, enter your phone number + zip:
https://www.villagedrapes.com/html/tracking.html

If your phone number isn’t working for UPS tracking, use your order number but subtract the last two numbers/letters. Say your order number is: W123456789, you'd put in: W1234567 - make sure to use the tracking by reference feature.

Flight info:
http://flightaware.com/live/fleet/UPS
http://flightaware.com/live/iphone
When you see the time that your flight leaves China (make sure that the UPS or FedEx info is showing it per China time, or do the math), and you can usually narrow it down

Have fun!!”
Thank you very much!

I see a lot of people ordering a max and not getting the max storage. I always order the top of the line maxed out. Why get a max with less than the max?

I only use 35 Gb locally on my 256 X. I use a ton of iCloud storage and stream a ton. I ordered the 256 Max which is still overkill for my needs. The 512 would not be used for my use case.

I have a 256GB iPhone X. Thought I'd go up from 64GB (from my Note8) since we were going to do more camping and hiking in areas where it might be nice to have offline storage and room for videos, etc.

Still don't use that much onboard storage. So I got my wife (who currently has a 64GB Galaxy S8+ and has very little storage issues) the 256GB Max. She has grown to love the larger screen since it is her primary "computer". That's more the reason for the Max purchase.

I also have a 256 X and have used about half of it. The temptation was there to get the 512 but I decided to order the 256 XS Max.

I remember being pumped about having a 32gb iPod touch back in the day, haha. To think that we could have half a TB on our phone storage locally is wild, isn't it?

Same here. 256 is more than enough. 512 is made for those who go where they need everything local. Excellent for that use case, of course!

I have a Note 9 as a secondary phone. One Terabyte :)

Just checked the status, "Preparing to Ship" and my card has been charged. Trying to recall previous pre-orders, that status seems to be the earliest I have even seen.
I went to PFS status sometime last night on my X Max. I think that was the fastest i ever had that happened. Usually for me i get that status change on a Sunday. I had to double check when i saw that to make sure I was not imagining things last night lol.

I know it’s the same as the X almost but I’m excited haha - I’ve been upgrading every year since the original iPhone.

Lets be honest apple didn’t sell this year as much as they usually do. If u try to purchase one now u can still get an ok date. Remember the previous years if you try to order after launch day it will tell you 3 to 4 weeks.
I think apple needs to understand that they are getting boring. Ios 12 didn’t bring any news this year. Three new iphones are basically a copy of the iphone x that came out last year.

Honestly if they brought out darkmode for the new phones they would of perhaps increased some sales. Maybe I’m wrong but yes I agree majority don’t care for small changes.

These phones are all the same. Same design as far as the hardware goes. Just size different. The Xs is the same size as the X. I’m sure they had lots of housings left from the X. Not hard to produce the same thing that has been made already. Just different size. Screen the same just stronger. That doesn’t change much. Camera basically the same. That doesn’t change much. Easy to build then and fast. Therefor more iPhones available come pre-order time.

Dark mood, picture in picture, always on display, fast adapter in boxes.
Pus ios is being silly especially now with a massive screen like the max. Reaching control center from the top of the screen is not going to be easy. Plus the lock screen itself is a joke. U can 3d touch the camera to launch the camera, you can swipe left to launch the camera. Its like WTH?

Anyone seeing extra CC charges today? Ordered two IUP phones and AW4, have the charges for the AW (everything in one including AC+), and the phone charges for the taxes, all as expected and as they have been doing recently (taxes not rolled into Citizens anymore).

Then got an extra $81.xx charge this AM and I have no idea what for. No other accessories ordered, nothing I can think of. I wish Apple shipped invoices ahead of charging. If this was back there somewhere, sorry, I can't read 42 pages. :D

It clearly states on the email as well as the order page right under the price that you will be charged two separate times. One for tax and one for payment to citizens.
