"It's too expensive! It'll never sell!" Best selling iPhone since it was launched.

"The shift away from a mainstream audience to a niche product will kill unit sales!" iPhone unit sales up 3% despite average retail increase of $200 over prior year.

"The notch is ugly! They'll get rid of it!" New X versions feature the notch.

"The X is a special edition, one-and-done, it's already obsolete!" Complete line of X form factors launching soon.

But at the same time sales didn’t meet Apple or suppliers expectations

The iPhone as far as I know has no proof it has driven those sales or just because people prefer using iPhones buying iPhones.

The botch is ugly but not a deal breaker. Now for me it’s a nuisance but I like iOS atm because of iMessage and better battery life for me

I can easily make counter arguments like those. Both aren’t wrong or right.

Yes i agree with you on some of your views and he was stubborn and they didn't always get it right, But do you honestly think he would have thought the X was alright?

Why don't we ask him?

Oh, right - we can't. :D

I’m Not defending the Notch, Im rebutting your arguments, which are completely bogus and frankly quite sophomoric. You really don’t have much of an argument, only to make fun of the notch, which is fine, but you really don’t have much validation backing up your arguments other than you ‘Just don’t like it’. But that doesn’t take everybody else’s experience and apply it to your own, it’s just merely your own nearsighted opinion.

Read the last sentence I bolded in your post, I think that says a lot about your insight about the notch (And smart phone tech) in general and that you truly don’t have an understanding of its existence.

If the latest Pixel 3 XL leaks are any indication, the notch is all the rage now. :D

Hey Bolt, are you buying the new iPhone X Plus next month seeing as it’ll be the best and most luxurious iPhone on the market? Just curious as you very confidently said it would never exist and you only buy the best.

I only buy the best but in the size that fits my pocket. If there is a Plus I won't be buying it. Never wanted one, never will. That's for gamers and streamers, not me.

Really? Are you suggesting I'm a necrophiliac? :D

I've had Androids and iPhones and both have great points.
Ya I've had both as well, well it's been about five years or so, suppose android has come a long way and Android phones, just thought the comment wasn't necessary.
[doublepost=1533788111][/doublepost]A few youtubers that have dummies of the 2018 line up are saying the oleds have smaller bezels, but if that is true then would that not make the display bigger or else the dimensions smaller, any thoughts?

I wonder why this thread is still active in the first place since we already know that X sales have been strong, not sure Apple lost thier non fan base.

A trillion dollar company, I’d say it’s increased since December 2017 when this thread started.

You were very confident earlier in the year Apple would never make a Plus sized X because you said they had hit the sweet spot with last years X. You also claimed your X makes you appear rich where you live because it the most expensive iPhone in the range but soon that will be the Plus so I was curious how your image could be affected after next month.

I think the Plus is aimed at anyone with the desire to spend £1100+ on a phone and like the previous Pluses will most likely appeal also to the business market.

I think the point still applies as many feel the mainstream market have not warmed to the X. It seems they have gravitated towards the mid tier and older devices for the most part, but still sticking with Apple hence why they have made so much money.

It’s been a good year for Apple as we’d expect and the increased range has meant they have spread out their product appeal.

Apple don’t publish data on the sales mix of their products. Any figures you see are conjecture based on surveys carried out outside Apple stores in specific locations.

Bottom line of all this - if the X truly was a runaway success, selling to the mainstream customer base at £999 - why would Apple feel the need to introduce a cheaper model with a £250-300 smaller price tag?

Apple knew full well the X wouldn’t appeal to the masses.

Where I live they look at people with Plus sized iPhone's as gamers and streamers, it's what our children own to play Fortnite and stream illegal movies, its not for grown adults.

As for my image, not to worry as it's summer and the beach house is in full swing.

If that’s the perception where you live then it’s an isolated consensus. The X Plus will be bigger and more expensive and you just might find some of your image conscious associates will want to flash it about as the new ‘status symbol’.

It’s time for New Hardware other than a larger size iPhone. Perhaps a foldable or bendable model which Apple most likely is working on will help retain its core users and encourage them to upgrade their iPhones
People lack patience and if Samsung comes out with a foldable phone in Jan 2019 i’m Hopeful Apple won’t be far behind

The bendable smart phone has been rumored for years, and even if it is a reality, it’s that I don’t see the practicality behind it or consumer adoption. I’m sure it could be something that has the potential to be a ‘game changer’ in some respects, but is that really the future of smart phones? Likely not. It’s likely very niche market that will include a very high-price tag because it’s ‘new technology’ , which I suspect Apples competitors would release before even they do. The reality with bendable smart phones not necessarily the future, and nowhere anytime soon for Apple it appears.

If there is a way to make it useful and beneficial for the everyday user then I have absolute faith that Apple will be the ones to bring it to the mainstream. That’s their forte. I dont think they are particularly innovative but they take an existing technology, polish it and make it accessible to the mass market.

I don’t disagree with you. I think Apple for them to actually want to implement a bendable iPhone, they are the type of company that wants to have 100% faith in a product like this that they believe would be successful long-term versus just a short term niche tech gimmick that maybe nobody will be interested in. Of course every product has a beginning, but does the market show the consumer would be willing to pay a higher premium for new technology for a bendable smart phone? I don’t think it is at this point. I don’t see Apple being the first to release a bendable smart phone, but if they do, I suspect that is still years out.

Since getting my 4 iPhone X’s last Fall I’ve gotten 2 more Rolexes so it’s all good. Thanks for your concern though.

My daughter is still using an iPhone 7 but she’s getting an iPhone X from Santa and it’s going to be handed down to my 7 year old son.

For me personally,

I have been buying iPhone due to its stability and integration.

I forced all of my family ( 18 to be exact ) to buy into the Apple ecosystem .

As of now , I am considering to switch over .

FaceTime was a big deal for me to FaceTime with friend and relatives . Now that feature is unstable and unreliable .
In the space of a month , I had a few devices that is unable to break FaceTime connection.
Imagine my iPhone X at 80 % battery and the ONLY solution is to let the battery deplete.

Imagine if you are on the road, in a foreign land/ long trip and faced an issue !! You can’t make any calls ....

I cannot recommend IPhone to my family now ....Until Apple fixes this issue.
And I DID contact Apple support .. Their reply “ This issue is known and we are looking into it “

Seriously ... Apple software development team is truly going downhill !!!

For this year I won’t be amongst the first IPhone / iPad adopter ....

As long as Apple continues to innovate and make superior products the masses will stay. If another company beats Apple at their game and when I say beat I mean have a superior cellphone with much better features then people will Leave Apple
Remember, If your paying the price you and everyone else wants the best for their money

I doubt that. My guess is Apple is rather developing AR glasses, coupled with a stand-alone Apple Watch, to replace the traditional smartphone in the long run. Though that’s probably still a few years away.

In the meantime I neither see technology for a fold- or bendable smartphone becoming reliable enough to entice Apple using it in big scale, nor can I see the benefit for the user. Gimmick and nerd value aside, it’d probably be rather impractical for daily use.
