Can’t wait for it to expand Netherlands. Hope we see it for the end of the year. Especially cycling routes
Hold your horses. There has never been an country which received both updated maps and cycling routes.

As far as I know. I’m gladly to be corrected in this, btw.

A man can hope, I don’t think cycling will be added. I wish there was some of agenda where I can see to expect cycling for Netherlands, since we cycle a lot 😅

Well, I just opened up the box containing my new iPhone 14 Pro Max. In the middle of the transfer process, and waiting for iOS to update to 16.0.2 on the new phone.

On the Maps front...still a little disappointed in the CarPlay experience in my car. I keep harping about the "Camera Mode A" and "Camera Mode B" stuff. Camera Mode B has been gone since the later versions of iOS 15. But it showed so much more visual detail in my car, and I felt that the camera behavior was much better, as well. Such as the camera slowly zooming in while you're approaching the destination, letting you see exactly which building housed your destination.

I fully believed that Mode B was what was supposed to be the new default camera experience, and that it was a glitch that usually brought in Mode A. But then Mode B was eliminated in one of the point updates, and I really miss it. Then there's still the glitch where the size of the POI icons and road labels can change when first plugging in the phone and activating CarPlay. Just seems unpolished.

I was hoping that iOS 16 would have brought a more refined Maps experience. And while it did add a useful feature in being able to add stops, the same nagging issues from iOS 15 still persist.

I have to wonder also if the car you drive has any factor in how CarPlay behaves. Screen size certainly can somewhat change the appearance of how CarPlay displays certain things. But when I was driving my BMW X5 rental in Vegas with the City Experience detail there, I could swear the camera behavior was a bit different from my car. Since I updated to iOS 16 on that same trip, I had been hoping iOS 16 brought some noticeable changes. But alas, when I returned home, it was all the same.

Geez...five hours to transfer everything from my old phone to the new??? Guess I won't be sleeping tonight.

Is this with the detailed city area?

Mine has been running so smoothly, it's scary. Zoom levels are exactly the way I prefer...can't even remember now what it was like when it was bad.

Finally moved last week and now I have a whole new number of corrections to submit since there seem to be some new traffic lights around here since they drove through.

Wow. Took me only 45 minutes to transfer about 80 GB of stuff. Put both devices on power and see if that helps.

Yeah, I've been driving almost exclusively in City Experience areas.

I did notice today that Maps on CarPlay was moving much smoother than on my old phone. The camera movements felt like 45 fps instead of the usual 21. lol

I’m experiencing something…different.

Out of nowhere, the address for a supermarket I went to a few days ago is now showing up as “Home”. Has the blue house symbol, and shows up in CarPlay at the top of my Siri Suggestions along with my Work and my regular Home.

I can’t figure out how to get rid of this extra Home that isn’t a home. It’s not part of my Favorites, and it doesn’t appear on my contact card.

Given how long the Israel/Saudi Arabia/Palestinian Territory testing phase is taking...I'm starting to doubt they're going to have everything they planned to have out by the end of the year...out by the end of the year.

Since Maps releases have seemed to land on Thursdays, if we don't see a wide release tomorrow, then I'll be really surprised. It's already long past the "longest" testing period, if I'm not mistaken.

Indeed, expansion 16 has broken all records by far. If Apple does not release expansion 16 tomorrow, it is clear that Apple will have to spped up its usual schedule otherwise expansion 17 won’t be able to release as planned by Apple.

I wonder if there aren’t some politics/national security things in play here for these particular countries?

You are probably right. Between Israel and the Palestinian territories, relations are not good. Moreover, Apple has still not collected new images in Israel since 2020/2021. As for Saudi Arabia, I don't know if Google has already survenues this country but there is no street view image on Google Maps. This is also true for the entire Arabian Peninsula. Maybe these countries do not allow the image collection by foreign companies?

Can we expect the detailed city experience to launch for Sydney and Melbourne (down under in Australia) next week to coincide with the launch of iOS 16.1? Or is it just a "random" time not timed to coincide with anything.
Assuming it's still coming this year :)

Yes, it is possible. The detailed city experience of Chicago and Las Vegas was released at the same time as iOS 16.

Ahhhhh….back in detailed city world (if only for a day).

On my way to NJ and then off to Germany and Ireland this week to try Maps out…and maybe do some work if I have time.

All of the unique parkway shields in the New York City/Westchester/Long Island area went missing from Apple Maps a few months ago. I had assumed they were trying to update them, but they never returned.

I just messaged them a few days ago about this. Hoping they return in the near future.

Anyone else experiencing odd sounding road name pronunciations compared to iOS 15?

Does every new iOS release “reset” Siri in some way that alters the way she tries to pronounce things?
