So I'm slowly rebuilding my library (and filling in anything missing with Apple Music). On albums that I uploaded (mainly live ones) I renamed the titles to add gibberish so it wouldn't mismatch, but now when I rename them back to their original state in iTunes after a while they just keep reverting back to the gibberish titles. It's like the cloud isn't registering all the changes I make to my local library and then "rematches" back to what it uploaded as.

I know you did the same, @lagwagon, has this been happening to your local music?

How long is a while? I noticed a couple album art snuck through on mine (missed remaining them when I synced to iCloud) but have changed the art to the right one and those stuck a couple days at least still.

I never got around to renaming back yet (needed a break from it all after remaning 2000+ songs.) I just did some and will report back of mine stick or revert like yours have.

Within a few minutes. I left it and went to bed, then started changing everything again in the morning and seemed to stick. Now I'm trying again and it's all reverting again (with different albums). I'm just gonna nod and smile, leave it alone and come back later when it does **** like this lol.

Almost three hours have past and changes I made to an album have stuck. So no clue why they aren't for you.

(Two screen shots. First with the edited names so they could upload and not mismatch. Second with the corrected names almost three hours later.) I took the first one right before changing the names back to proper.

Yeah, mine is back to updating properly almost instantly again.

I found out a lot of the ineligible tracks were purchased on my old Apple ID and have DRM on them. I thought that if it was authorised for playing that they could still be added?

They can be "traded in" with a Match subscription - basically upload via Match and download a DRM-free version. I've no idea if this still works with iCloud Music Library in play though.

Has anyone whose library was FUBARed tried the new 12.2.1 yet? Does it actually fix things?

I just checked and it's still there. When I am searching, say, for New Order's Technique, I can't type "new order technique" anymore. It says "no library results". I can search either for artist or album title, but not both at once. This is a new exciting feature introduced in iTunes 12.2. (On the plus side, and I am being sarcastic here, if I click "Search for new order technique in Apple Music", I am directed to search result page in... iTunes Store.)

It's not a massive problem, just irritating most of the time, unless the title is as generic as Best Of and the artist is someone with 200 entries in my iTunes (like New Order).

Much like what could now happen with 12.2.1, all of this can be avoided by waiting. That's not meant in a arrogant way, but I'll never understand why people update software straight away - especially operating systems. There are going to be issues, everyone knows there will be issues, and I don't understand why someone would do so.

I guess if everyone had that same idea though then there wouldn't be a way to know if you're avoiding something problematic or have revised, more stable versions roll out.

I love how your post started with a rant that asked a question....which you then answered.

Lol. Full circle

Is it me though or it wasn't always like this with Apple? It was always Microsoft who would put out an operating system that was at best in late beta stage, then provide 300 updates until it finally became usable. "Here's Apple Music. By the way, better avoid using it for a while."

Every single day I thank the Gods for the fact my library was too big to sync it with iCloud and that I have a Time Machine backup. Currently considering backing it up to an external drive and disconnecting it just in case Apple Music manages to somehow, er, enhance my experience.

That's what I've done. Time Machine is great, but I have to remember *when* my last known good was. I've just tossed everything on an external with a second backup on a flash drive, because I KNOW one of these days I'm going to feel optimistic and try to hook everything up with the cloud again, or iTunes is going to magically decide to help me out and turn on the iCloud Library for me.

Be glad some folks do jump in, or we'd all be sitting here waiting and no one would be finding any problems.

Yep, for sure, touched on that in the post. I realize it wouldn't be that way if some people weren't jumping in - but what I will remain to be curious about is why so many people are startled when major issues arrive - even after thorough testing in betas and the like.

So far so good here. Before turning on iCML again, I made a new library and deleted all iCloud songs, making sure to then unhide all purchases in the iTunes Store if they got hidden again. Looks like it's not screwing up my Mac library, but still seeing the occasional mismatched song on the iPhone (even for recently purchased songs, stupidly).
