But if you have a family and a joint household budget, N26 does not fit into this scenario as N26 still does not offer joint accounts or additional card for partners ;)
Yes, I'm just assuming that most people are a) single b) don't own a business and c) don't yet have an account with N26. :D

N26 is apparently working on joint accounts, so that might get interesting later on down the road, if that's what you want. Then again N26 is apparently working on lots of stuff that is coming "soon". Hardly anything seems to materialise though.

Either way: Why not just open an account for yourself now and play around with Apple Pay from day 1? I don't get holding back...

I'm secretly hoping Monzo comes to Germany at some point (soon). It'll blow N26 out of the water

As they introduced spaces and shared spaces, I asked if they want to offer joint accounts. Answer: nope, no further plans.

And I already have a N26 Account to play around. But I‘m not satisfied and convinced. No benefits over our other accounts. Just lack of features.

To use Apple Pay from day one: Amex, perhaps I also keep using boon.

It's coming. And by the sounds of it, the implementation will be quite good actually.

I'm not an N26 fanboy at all, I'm not a big fan of the app or how it functions. As mentioned before, they are way behind Monzo. But they're the best available FinTech in Germany right now and they have been pushing Google Pay and Apple Pay (and always been there on day 1).

I like also Amex, but it's credit based and not everyone wants that. For daily expenses a current account is - for most - a wiser choice.
On a side note though: Not even Amex DE supports push via the app!? How is that even possible
[doublepost=1540754178][/doublepost]I've just seen on another forum, that Müller (the drug store) now let you withdraw cash with MasterCard. Has anyone tried this out (even via boon.)? In future that would be great if that were possible via Apple Pay (just like NFC enabled cash machines).

Nope, that's the shared spaces I mentioned. Not joint accounts. They are just shared with other N26 customers for shared savings and so on. At last that's what their faq and the support said as they introduced spaces in summer :)

No good sign for fintechs in Germany, if you ask me :D ... the one-eyed man is the king among the blind.

But no new n26 discussion. They have their satisfied customers and that's good. There's a bank for everyone and every scenario. That's the good about this market with its dozends of banks and services.
(other countries would love this freedom of choice)

don't need this. I know when I was paying something. I found it irretating and funny that my watch told me, I paid something a few seconds after I was paying something. Thanks for the information, I'm not suffering from dementia :)
And if there would be a fraud with my account, there is no legal difference if I get a push message or if I see it the next days or at the next bill.

Hmm, if they allow it with MC, it should be okay with Apple Pay, as there is no difference for the terminal?
[doublepost=1540755582][/doublepost]Hmmm. Thinking about... is N26 still a "FinTech"? Or meanwhile just a regular direct bank with a huge hype train and a shiny app? And how many fintechs with direct customer relationship are there anyway? Fidor for example draws back from the customer market and wants to concentrate on backend and white label services.

In DE the main ones that spring to mind (for private customers only): N26, Revolut, VIMpay, Fidor / o2 Banking, bunq, Monese, yes even boon I suppose.

Monzo on the other hand has set out to create the ultimate current account, which is something I feel like N26 is starting to neglect by focusing on the platform model. It's the same thing that has happened to Starling (another UK fintech) and since then their product has really deteriorated. That's mainly why Monzo now has over 1m UK customers and I also use it as my account for daily expenditures.

Then there is Revolut with its crazy model of just building everything as quickly and cheaply as possible and pushing out stuff whenever they feel like it, while forgetting the basics like compliance, customer service and reliability (I feel like most of the time their payment processing is broken).
---

Enough of this talk, I'm really interested to hear: How are all of you "getting ready" for Apple Pay? Switched accounts yet, waiting until your bank supports it, got an additional account to play around with?

Apple Pay is not worth a bank switch if you have several contracts and accounts running and a trustful relationship with your bank and your advisor. That's my opinion. It is just a matter of time for most banks. And in the meantime, there are workarounds ;)

Using DKB as Main Account. Will not change.
Backup Plans (in this Order)
- Boon
- N26 (but I am struggling Dani don’t like them)
- other credit card that supports ApplePay

Hope that DKB will join this train soon, too.

As a student I am forced to use DB as main account, however, I have Comdirect and N26 as a backup options when travelling.I think they will support Apple Pay from day one

I will get a boon card as soon as it is available.
I don’t want to give up my main account with the Spk and DKB joins hopefully in the near future.

I wouldn’t change my bank just for Apple Pay either. But I like sirHDs view on the “multi account setup” having to banks one for your general stuff and a secondary for all your other spendings and I can only recommend handling your banking like this. I’ve been doing those for a couple of years too always thought I’m the only... my main account in Germany is at Sparda Bank. Great bank I guess but they suck at digital/online banking. Used to be my only bank but after credit card fraud I canceled the credit card and got myself a N26 debit card which I just love for traveling. If you travel a lot I can only recommend them. And they support Apple Pay so I’ll be good to go once Apple Pay goes live.

I also use bunq for almost a year now and I like them very much too. They offer lots of stuff that N26 doesn’t. But it’s not a bank for everyone and they remove lots of features every now and again without any communication with the users. Also I have been having lots of problems making payments lately so...

But I am considering getting the Amex Payback card just for having some type of real credit card as a backup. Is it worth getting it? Any experiences?

I am with my ING DiBa Account. Having a N26 Card which I don't like and dont use, an Amex which I do like and a Curve card being on its way.

Atm i am using the amex as main card and my visa issued by ing diba as backup card. once curve is supporting amex and Apple Pay, I am going to use that card together with Apple Pay.

at least that's the plan at the moment. I'll see what turns out to be my real workflow when it comes to payment when Apple Pay has been started here

i am using the amex payback card as main card at the moment. there are just very few shops not accepting it. we've done payback before getting the amex, and its nice to pay and collect with only one card. collecting point while paying (except paying for petrol) and having a printed barcode on the back of the card to collect the regular payback points.

and, I am collecting a nice amount of points just by paying with the amex

I'm staying with DKB for now. I switched beginning of this year. I'm really satisfied with what they offer. I hope for them joining soon.
Boon is no option for me. I hate this prepaid top up thing. If only Curve would add ApplePay support I'ld go for them.
So for me: No ApplePay until DKB or Curve joins the party.

If DKB hasn't joined till Q3 next year I'll look around to switch my accounts a last time.

I have boon working for months ... so I'll wait until all launch partners are published and then check if there is a better offer … still hoping that maybe we'll get Apple Pay Cash and I can switch to that

Some new Cashback for Boon users available around Halloween and so a maximum of ca. 6 month without a monthly account fee if you see it that way :)

One special question to that post before: Can I go to Müller and withdraw 80€ beside my 20€ (minimum for withdrawal when I see that correct on the picture from Müller Market?? There is a blinding from the light on the sign) to get the maximum 10€ Cashback from Boon?

Should work because of Mastercard I guess? Or is that 80€ withdrawal registered in another way and not as normal purchase so that Boon only give me 2€ Cashback for that 20€?

Or maybe NFC is not even possible for Müllers "Withdrawal"?

I have several bank accounts, even more than i ever needed... so yeah - here is my list.
i have:
boon.(irland)
Payback Amex
Comdirect
N26
Fidor (smartcard, i hope that you don't need the "normal" mastercard debit for apple pay)
bunq (not on premium though)
Revolut (would be my first choice, if they will support apple pay soon, hey... i mean revolut is listed on the french apple pay site as soon to come... so i hope they will start in france and in germany simultanously)

At the moment im using boon. and i will keep it a while... as i stated before - i would use Revolut as my daily driver , as soon as they support apple pay (hoping for the maestro card to support apple pay , too) and before that... either boon. or Fidor.

Why Revolut?
Hopefully Maestro Card support.
(Auto)Top-Up from my Amazon Visa, so AmazonPoints / Cashback

Why not make another acccount for playing around? i mean you can keep the dkb account and have some .. n26 to play with apple pay? its not that bad to have more than one bank account

Somebody posted this on twitter and got it deleted like 5 seconds after... I just recovered it from my browser cache o_O #Win

Not sure what this ad (if legitimate) is about? Before AP launches no partner will run ads. So this ad only makes sense, if boon. was not going to support AP from day one. Otherwise there would be no reason to state "coming soon". Or am I missing something?
