The DB Virtual Card and DB Card Plus don't have that 1,50 EUR minimum fee. Last time I checked the Card Plus was 18 EUR a year I think. Virtual Card is free.

That is correct, but they charge you for using the card in non EU countries which is a big no no for me.

True. For this, the only offer from DB would be the Mastercard Travel but if you don't need the additional features and insurances of that card, it is expensive.

Amex setup process asked if I wanted the verification via SMS or email, I picked SMS. I too did get the "success and welcome" email afterwards. 3 times. For 2 cards. (2 cards x iPhone/Watch/Mac)
Didn’t have to verify at all. Perhaps because my Amex is m standard card at apple? Hmm.

Hey, I LOVE the concept of your German banking system. It's one of the reasons why you weren't as much in the s**t as we were in the UK. But the Sparkasse and Volksbank are just acting against the market tendencies and trying to force their idea of what mobile payment is onto people.
I don't see it this way. And the "idea of mobile payment" is the same.

And I'm curious what FI and the DSGV have planned for 2019 as they announced an investment of one billion Euros in development of IT, Apps and solutions.

And that sentence is EXACTLY the context: Sparkasse were suggesting Apple wouldn't be able to launch / get Apple Pay into the German market without them. They've proven: They were able to manoeuvre around them and get nearly all relevant banks in Germany on board (granted, VoBa and Commerzbank are still holdouts - so far).
No it's not the context. As I remember it, the context was "they can launch it, but without these two banking groups they will not gain market relevant size". The spokesman did not say "they can not launch without..." That's a difference ;)

As I said, we will see the market impact of Apple Pay in a few months. Or not, if the numbers are not impressive. It is possible that Apple forbids its partners to publish concrete numbers. but I think we will hear from HDE and bigger retailers what their impressions are.

Until then, I'm happy that my Amex is now on the wallet. :D Amex, boon. and N26 should do every day life ;)

Girocard not directly - with Deutsche Bank you can generate a virtual Debit Mastercard for Apple Pay

no girocard implementation yet. I doubt it is coming very soon. And to be honest: I don't need it.

If you are willing to switch my recommendation is DKB. They will participate in 2019 but I won't take that long. After making it public there is a given timeframe by apple to launch it. All ruled by apple. If you want the "quick and dirty" way I would recommend N26 or Boon

activated N26 via the N26 app an hour ago without problems.

Here's an article from FAZ about the ApplePay launch.
https://www.faz.net/aktuell/technik...pple-pay-startet-in-deutschland-15933526.html
I like that the author mentions details about the tokenization, the secure enclave, and that Apple doesn't collect as much data as Google does.
Interesting is also what is mentioned about the costs for the banks:
Nach Gerüchten verlangt Apple von den Banken bei einer Transaktionssumme von 100 Euro rund 10 Cent Provision. Außerdem, so heißt es, gebe es eine Grundgebühr von einem Euro je Karte und Jahr für jede in der Wallet hinterlegten Karte.
Apple asks for 10 cents per 100 Euro transaction sum. And for 1 EUR per card and year.

comdirect VISA Card Question:

comdirect states on their website that VISA card is only free in non-euro currency countries. I would like to know if we use it with apple pay in Euro currency, does it incur any fee?

You are confusing the terms & conditions of card payments with ATM withdrawals.

ATM withdrawals are a bit specific with comdirect. You can withdraw money outside of EUR currency countries for free with the VISA card but they want you to use the girocard for EUR countries.

For card payments you do not incur fees with the comdirect VISA in EUR currency (but there is a percentage fee for non-EUR card payments).
[doublepost=1544517007][/doublepost]DB customers, question:

When ordering the Virtual Card in the app, at step 4 it asks you to generate a TAN—I am using photoTAN which usually works by sending you automatically to the photoTAN app, then sending you back to the Deutsche Bank Mobile app. In fact, this worked activating my existing Mastercard through the app.

But now, it will send me back and I'm back at the login screen of the mobile app. When I login, I'm at my financial overview and the order process is gone. Anyone seen that?

i thought it's not allowed anymore to have such rule in place?

It’s not allowed to charge extra fees for paying by card, but merchants are free to either not accept cards at all or only do so for purchases above a certain limit.

The reason for the latter is usually due to fees. Depending on their margin, the minimum transaction fees for card payments may cause them to actually lose money on small sales (or at least eat too much into their margin to make it worthwhile.)

Unless you find a special offer (like Black Friday recently), bunq is quite expensive if all you want is a debit card. You said you changed to comdirect, why not use your VISA credit card, is it because of debiting at the end of the month?

afaik bunq is not free. correct me if im false
Boon is about 1,50€ a month?!

N26 is free with a physical CC aswell + ability to get cash worldwide/ no currency fee abroad. but you have to know that is required an online POS. In the air/by train there is no chance to do a purchase. And there are sometimes wired maintenance by shutting down the service by mid of the day. But in 99% of the times its working great. But it not my priority account.

But if you are already a Comdirect customer. Everything should be fine?! (What I don't like is the withdrawal at Comdirect)
