There are infos from multiple sources and banks from Austria, Czech Republic, Slovenia and Croatia about a launch in early 2019.
In the Czech R. Moneta - their largest fintech confirmed the launch, in Austria it was Raiffeisenbank who said that they’re waiting for Apple to give them the go in early 2019, in Slovenia the local branches of UniCredit and Intesa Sanpaolo both confirmed Apple and Google Pay for early 2019 and in Croatia the largest bank (an Intesa Sanpaolo branch) has also told the press that the measures for an Apple Pay Launch have already been taken and is to be expected soon (they also launched Google Pay as the first bank in the region).
I think that these infos are pretty credible, since they’re coming from local branches of banks that already support Apple Pay in other countries and therefore are expected to offer it in other countries as well.
The Netherlands seems to be the toughest market for Apple though - the biggest issue here is the almost 99% market share of Maestro in cashless POS payments - and the costs for the transactions have been capped at about 0,01 to 0,02 per ONE transaction by the DNB. This leaves almost nothing to the banks and Apple is as we all know pretty keen on getting their piece of the cake, but there is no pieces left if the bank only gets a piece themselves as well instead of a cake or a half of a cake :/
