Oh perhaps some are suffering a GiroCard persecution complex, who knows?

Perhaps its just because even late 2018 not every POS is ready for girocard tap&go?

And perhaps its just because the rollout of NFC Girocard was in Late 2016. You can't use this payment systems if nobody got one of these cards ;)

Yes, there is a kind of persecution complex! Tried my contactless GC for 2 months in 2016: not even half of times I was able to pay contactless. Switched to MC/VISA = simply works in every country!

There a coherences of a German Insellösung which is pushing NFC years later than competitors and its not working reliable.

Germany = low % of using cards
Germany= outrageous fees by banks for card transactions (espc. CC)
Germany= left behind in every single context of payment in the public (taxi, transit, parking)
Germany= artificial barriers for CC (no withdrawal at SPK, VB etc.)
Germany= AP 4 Years after Launch
Germany= "mimimi" Banks (press release at SPK)

Germany= Insellösung GiroCard do you get the context?

Get me right: a great working (national) payment system would be great but if you exclude people from foreign countries (GiroCard only contracts) I am not willing to support this system

For all of those living in the Rhein-Main/Frankfurt area, the largest chain of bakeries, Bäcker Eifler just announced that they will be bringing card payments to all of their stores after they test it in Frankfurt Hbf and Konstablerwache. That’s going to be the start of cards finally being accepted in the food branch in Germany, and therefore Apple Pay as well. God knows how needed that was.

New Apple Pay ad by Deutsche Bank...

According to Jochen Siegert they trademarked "Ba Bing" - also appears on all their leaflets. Quite a good idea I think and not "tacky" at all (I feared it would be).

I quite of like the spot and also the Ba Bing slogan. I must admit, great marketing of DB!

Would not bet on too much followers... here two bigger bakeries accepts cards since two years or so (Der Beck, Brothaus; MasterCard, Visa, GC). No followers so far :(

If I ask at others bakeries about card payment, they get angry and grumpy. Well, then no deal :D

Nice. I am traveling daily through FFM HBF.
I think they do have to, as Ditsch and all others in the hall already accept cards since easy a year.

So I thought too until today when I tried to use AP at Le Crobac. "Kartenzahlung erst ab 5 Euro" At a bakery!
Now I also understand why they hide their terminal behind the counter. Nobody uses it anyway...

Using GiroCard would be cheaper for them, right?

I will boycott every single store that doesn’t accept contactless payment. If they aren’t modern they are gonna pay for it, losing me and quite other people.

If everybody would do this kind of pressure, there would be a greater UMDENKEN on this type of weird mentality of german ANGST

I do this already since boon started in France. Since I use ApplePay as my primary payment option and do not carry any additional wallet with me, I may only pay by Apple Pay.

But I am getting troubles in many restaurants, they often do not accept credit cards so no ApplePay. Quite difficult

What kind of restaurant? I've never seen a real restaurant (and even most fast food restaurants) where you're unable to pay your 100$/100€ bill without a CC. I can only imagine on streetfood like Kebab shop. Even in the most pizzeria you're able to pay with CC on request. But maybe these ones are not on my track so I won't get in problems like that.

I've had a lot of trouble with Amex and Apple Pay:

Dussmann (Kulturkaufhaus) Berlin, accepts Amex physical cards but denies the contactless payment through Apple Pay.
Some random gas station on A2, accepts Amex physical cards but denies the contactless payment through Apple Pay ("Bitte Karte einstecken" lol).

In each of these cases, Mastercard through Apple Pay worked fine.
I guess they need a newer software for Amex.

I just won't use Amex anymore because I can never be sure it works. Really awkward and dumb experience. Amex logo and contactless logo is apparently not enough. For Mastercard it is.

Boon. offers no credit card but a debit (prepaid) card... so... should be no problem, aye?

Boon offers a Debit Creditcard. So it is a problem since debit (credit) cards use the same payment method as real credit cards and therefore the acceptance of debit (credit) cards is the same as for real credit cards.

Or easier: the real question is not if The shop accepts credit cards. The question is do they accept MasterCard or Visa.

Did you report this to AMEX? Certainly can help resolving these issues.

And a short addendum:
Same problem today at SATURN. Payment terminal doesn't accept Amex via Apple Pay, but does the physical card (logo present). Last try. Worthless.

I then used my Deutsche Bank Mastercard with Apple Pay and was able to pay without a problem (no PIN, no signature, just worked).

I did successfully buy things with the Amex via Apple Pay at an iZettle restaurant, one that used orderbird (a bakery) and at Cyberport in a store. So it's not the card, it's just that most terminals haven't been updated to properly support Amex and that's disappointing.

I wanted to. The form for this has no comment field and you can only check pre-formed answers to the problem, none of which apply to contactless payments or Apple Pay. Maybe I'll call them...

Did call. Can't help. "Doesn't help if you report this. The partner needs to update their terminals."

Well. I guess Mastercard was faster in having people update their software :D

Would be great if someone with deep technical knowledge could comment on this. I remember Apple listing "kernel versions" for payment networks (MC, Visa, Amex) that have to be on a certain version each. So it's understandable that some networks support Apple Pay fully, others don't. It's just that Amex support has been bad for me so far.

That sounds kind of bad for Amex... and I just got the payback Amex card on the way...

can I, or... how can I still collect payback with the Apple Watch without using that card for payment but my comdirect one?

Thanks :)

Hmm Ikea was the only retailer in the last couple of months where I could not pay with Amex contactless if they accepted Amex.
