In case of the Fidor Bank Mastercard/Maestro dual card, when you use it with Apple Pay the terminal normally asks you which of the two you want to use if both are supported. Of course maybe with Girocard/Maestro co-branding there is a difference.

Not if you use it with Apple Pay. If you slide in the physical card -> Yes, you can choose (confuses the hell out of some people). If you use contactless payments with the physical card, you don't need to choose anything - neither do you need to with Apple Pay. Using the Fidor dual card since launch with Apple Pay and before that with the physical card. Apple Pay acceptance has been 100% with it until now, btw.

In the end of December I dismissed boon; yesterday it finally got terminated. But boon was working flawless the whole years from the beginning of my usage in France. Just quitted because I don't want to pay any monthly fees anymore, so instead I just remain on my free AMEX and free VISA. My credits should be transfered to my regular bank account within the next few days.

Nope, in that case on my given IBAN to my bank account instead of the prior used credit card. Prop. it‘s just in case as fallback when nothing else has been provided by the customer.
If you provided your IBAN, yes. I used my CC only. My money is there instantly.

BTW. N26 is Not so bad for non Euro countries as it does not charge any fees for card payments.
Until DKB will support it, N26 seems to be the best for eg. USA etc.

If an account with no foreign exchange purchasing and Apple Pay is a must, only N26 (even the free account), bunq (Premium, but also free cash withdrawal) or Deutsche Bank (MasterCard Travel, 96€/year) have something on offer.

boon. (temporarily until the end of March) or VIMpay both have no fx fees with their virtual cards.

In the last couple of weeks I've been playing around with different accounts and must say, that overall I like the functionality of bunq most but find the monthly charge just far too high. N26 has quite a buggy app and if all one wants is a decent account for card payments, then it's quite boring and there are ads for other products left, right and centre. The service seems to be a big problem if your account is set to German. I've only ever had mine set to English and the support team via chat is available in a matter of a few minutes. Admittedly, their answers have not been very helpful in a recent case...

I´m asking myself why boon. doesn´t offer a Maestro and a Visa Card too. Why? Look at this!

http://www.prepaidtrio.de/#

If a shop doesn´t accept CCs but Maestro...
[doublepost=1548078185][/doublepost]Hi guys, my moms Amex has been accepted by Amex but they spelled her name wrong. The second part of her surname is written lowercase within the email. Is that something to worry about or not. Thanks. I know it´s OT. Sorry! In the very first mail everything is perfectly fine though.

VISA - for various reasons - isn’t really used by FinTechs and their Debit offerings in Europa are even more confusing than MasterCards.

VISA - for various reasons - isn’t really used by FinTechs and their Debit offerings in Europa are even more confusing than MasterCards.

The reason for that is that Mastercard wants to grow in every way possible so they are ready to offer lower fees for fintechs than Visa. And since wirecard is behind about 80% of fintechs and they prefer MasterCard because of the lower costs, that’s simply the route most fintechs go.

About Visa Debit in Europe - they first created the VPay card explicitly for the European market to offer an alternative to Maestro for banks. They created it because banks wanted cards that are not usable for online payments in order to push their credit products. This is changing soon though, Visa already presented Visa Debit in Switzerland which is being introduced to the market this year at last.

"isn't really"... doesn't mean none ;) There might be the odd FinTech. Btw MyCard2Go I wouldn't class as a Fintech. Revolut, Monzo, Monese, Starling, N26, Tandem, bunq, boon (maybe Fidor) and so on: They are FinTechs and they are almost exclusively on the MasterCard platform.

Monese used to have Visa Debit, Revolut used to mainly hand out Visa Prepaid. But they've both now almost exclusively switched to MasterCard. The Revolut virtual cards still seem to be Visa only...

As kkrdvc mentioned fees is one big factor. The other is agility: MasterCard is much more interested in connecting with the FinTechs directly and offering technology that Visa just isn't able to deliver. For example they have dedicated staff to assist in the integration on the new platforms. Visa seems to be much more comfortable so far with the big banks, but they've also realised they have a need to catch up.

Look at the mobile payment launches in 2018: it was mainly a "MasterCard party". Visa hasn't been integrated with the Sparkasse app yet, Revolut only supports MasterCard and Maestro and with Apple Pay certain banks only support MasterCard.

Revolut does support Visa and also actively issues those cards based on your geographical location. If you live in certain countries you are given a Visa card; there is no option to switch to MasterCard.

Revolut previously only issued MasterCards. This has changed a few months ago, after a beta test with Visa cards. I believe your second card can be either Visa or MasterCard; the choice is up to you.

I think they want to negotiate lower fees by implementing a dual card scheme. ING The Netherlands also did this last year, and also issues both MasterCard and Visa.

I see. Stadtsparkasse Düsseldorf kicked out VISA sometime ago. You only get one if you already own one.

I didn't say that Revolut don't offer Visa or don't support those cards at all any more. No matter what your geographical reason, the virtual cards all still seem to be Visa. All the premium cards are exclusively MasterCard.

I just stated that they have now mainly switched to physical (free) MasterCards in most of the main markets - part of the reason is in preparation for Google / Apple Pay (as it will only be available with MasterCard from launch).

I'd be hard-pressed to find and name you a handful of fintechs/challenger banks that exclusively use Visa (Revolut being the small exception issuing a larger number of physical MasterCards in their portfolio).

After the mostly MasterCard based Apple Pay launch, this year will be interesting. comdirect have announced that they want to bring their Girocard (the VPay co-badge) to Apple Pay, we have Consorsbank, ING, DKB with Visa cards and possibly (I doubt it though) Girocard with Sparkassen and Volksbanken. We'd then have all relevant card schemes covered.

Poor Steffen (Twitter @DKB_Regulatory)... Always helpful and now the first users are ranting at him that he promised April and they now assume it isn't coming until July. I'm fairly relaxed about the whole thing.

I hope Revolut will launch in Germany soon and I might be lucky, as it seems Germans will be the first ones to get it. Weird really, as they haven't made an official announcement for France yet (although they've been "coming soon" on the French Apple Pay site). Then again: As far as I know Germany was the first country to get official Google Pay support.

Will be a wonder if they launch at all.

They promise to launch Apple Pay "soon" since 2017 ... or was it 2016?
Well, they have been listed on the official French Apple pay site since April 2018, since December in Germany.

The real news is, that for the first time they've actually announced it with the official Apple Pay marketing material and showing off the card on iPhone. I'm sure that Apple would only allow promoting it like that if a launch was certain.

On the other hand: They NEED to launch it. All other major challenger banks have it and for many it's an essential feature. I'm hopeful it will finally be "soon"

Same with Curve.
If they don’t bring ApplePay they will not be used by me anymore. Already stopped using them as I like the non hazzle payment ApplePay gives me. No card, no Pin - Ba Bing ....
Hehe I like the BaBing

Same for me. If Curve does not come up with AP the next few months, they will have a hard time and I don’t need them anymore.

Perhaps if the start Amex support in EU without top up. Then I would keep them as a one card backup to carry around.
