Small redesign of the Apple Pay Germany page. The spanish direct bank from Santander is also listed as coming in 2019 now: Openbank. Right now they don't offer accounts to German residents afaik but seems like this will soon change.

Funny enough that Santander itself is still not on the list.

Klarna Card (currently only Google Pay support) is also now available in Germany. https://www.klarna.com/de/card/

Seems interesting. Actual credit card, different options to pay for your purchases, no fees or foreign exchange fees. No support for getting cash from ATMs.

Not for me but I wish them the best and of course hopefully they'll add Apple Pay support soon.

So Consors started today in germany.

Outside of the "first week in a month" timeframe.

Nice to see that they got to go live in-between the usual slots (which has happened on occasion)! I had assumed a launch was imminent as the app showed Wallet support from around the end of March.

Although DKB are dodging questions, it appears as if the wait will be longer than the beginning of May. One hint was given out this morning indicating a launch early June. But some users were apparently able to add the card (yet not verify it) (source: https://www.iphone-ticker.de/apple-...ich-dkb-kurz-vor-dem-deutschlandstart-140431/).

For the usage part.
I am currently in France and hey it is a totally different payment area.
You don't have to ask at All if they take Card, they just do everywhere. Even small bakeries. I paid 100% with ApplePay so far. Even bread for 0,90€ (had my purse in my backpack all the time and it's so easy to pay with the Applewatch.

Yeah I know that, when you are abroad it is always a bit frustrating to see how backwards we are in terms of card payments. But I wouldnt fully blame the merchants as the terminal contracts here for small shops are so expensive, I can somehow understand them (and yes, cash may be expensive as well, but in good old Germany they must offer it anyway).

Same experience in Croatia for the past two weeks. Wasn’t even in a large city, but in a smaller town and all restaurants/ food shops took Apple Pay without any issues. Even ice cream shops take cards. A whole different world out here haha

Thats true for Croatia. Even my local bakery now supports contactless payment (so you can pay with ApplePay too). Last year on Mastercard official page there was an article about contactless payment in Europe and Croatia was in TOP5 like you can use it almost anywhere.

Just one important information when you want to use ApplePay in Croatia - never say "i want to pay with ApplePay" because you will get like *WTF face*, nobody knows here what ApplePay is. Just say "credit card please" and thats it - you can pay with ApplePay because almost 99% POS terminals here are contactless. Sometimes they could ask you "what type of card is it" (Mastercard, Visa, Amex, Diners) becuase some shops have 3-4 POS terminals for different cards...

I think it is the Same for all locations at the moment. In France you can say „card sans contact“ as really nearly all people pay like this. I cannot believe how different payment is in Europe and how cash driven we are in Germany.

Hey guys,

haven't been active here for quite some time now. I'm still using bunq and love it. It is perfect for my use case but I'm always eager to check out new banks.

I am considering to close down my N26 account for good now since there have been to many issues over the last couple of months and it is almost impossible to get in contact with customer support. They promised so many features in the past and we have been waiting for years now and nothing gets implemented. No shared accounts, no instant transfers, customer service is lacking even more ... I haven't been using my N26 cards for a year or so and yet again someone tried to make a payment with my card. I mean how is this possible? When I was in Russia, my card information had been stolen and someone tried to use my card. I had locked the card and ordered a new one back home and have never used it again since then. And now someone got his hands on my new card number that I have never used up until now?

Well, as I said luckily I have my bunq account and it is still great for budgeting etc. Of course, the 7.99 € are not ideal for everyone and after all, they are just an online bank too. I don't want to imagine what would happen if someone ever hijacked my account. Since you can only contact them from within the app you are going to have a hard time.

Can anyone recommend me a secure alternative to bunq that offers Apple Pay, allows me to do some budgeting (like having multiple accounts) and share accounts with my wife? What about Sparkasse any idea when they will launch and are they a good alternative? I still hold an account at Sparda Bank. Are there any pieces of information whether or not they are going to offer Apple Pay too later this year?

Why don't you take DKB?
Free, ApplePay is a matter of days/weeks not months anymore. Budgeting can be done with an additional "Tagesgeld Visa".
Joined accounts work great as you can see them in your personal login and only need one TAN Device.
So for me it's a great package.

Centro Oberhausen: I used my watch 2 times. First shop: When I showed my watch. "I don´t know if it works." Me and her colleague: "It works." It worked!:D Espresso? Only cash!:( If I would be crazy, I would have chosen Starbucks.

McDonald´s Düsseldorf: It worked. It was not so easy to reach the terminal. I hope people start to wake up here and think a bit more about wheelchair drivers and their needs.

Their support is also reachable via e-mail. But yes, they are an online bank. Did you check what Deutsche Bank offers? If you really need "offline" and Apple Pay, that's probably your best choice then.

DKB is an "only" online bank too right? Can you reach them via telephone easily? That's one of the biggest flaws N26 and bunq have in my opinion. How secure is the online banking? How do you log in just with a password and user name or are there some additional layers of security that prevent others to hijack your account? Or do you just need the login and password to have total control over the account? How do you verify bank transfers? As far as I can see they only offer credit cards no debit cards right? I usually prefer to have a debit card. Is it possible to manually balance the credit card? Or is it a once per month thing where the bank automatically balances the account? Is it possible to lock the card for foreign countries, online payment, atm, etc? Can you change the pin?

Unfortunately, you don't really find that many answers on the web pages.

@samwa3

Thanks for your suggestion. Unfortunately Deutsche Bank is a no go for me. From a moral point of view they'd probably be the last bank I'd ever chose to become a customer at.

I'm interested in opening an account with DKB too as soon as they offer ApplePay. But unfortunately, they seem to have a lot of server problems recently (customers can't sign in, website really slow, etc.) and when I wanted to look up information on their website, I noticed that too and even got redirected to error pages.
They're quite some complaints about their customer service, too. Just check Twitter etc.
It looks like they're not that much different from N26 :(

Sometimes yes, sometimes not so good. They have a phone support for everyone, though. When it worked, it worked well for me.

How do you log in just with a password and user name or are there some additional layers of security that prevent others to hijack your account?
Username and password. Both are customizable to something unique, though after sign-up.

How do you verify bank transfers?
TAN app separate from the normal Banking app on your phone. Or alternatively chipTAN. (This information can be found on their website in more detail.)

Is it possible to manually balance the credit card? Or is it a once per month thing where the bank automatically balances the account?
Both. It is automatically balanced 100% on the 20th of every month or so. But you can always move around money and you can also have a positive balance on the VISA card if you want. That way you can spend more money than your credit limit, too. Positive balance on the VISA also generates interest if you are an "Aktivkunde".

Is it possible to lock the card for foreign countries, online payment, atm, etc?
There is some stuff that you can set in the app, but right now not granular down to countries. I think @DKB_Regulatory mentioned that this is planned for the future. Online payment, ATM etc. can be disabled and enabled, though, if you want instantly.

From a moral point of view they'd probably be the last bank I'd ever chose to become a customer at.
That I can understand.

they seem to have a lot of server problems recently
True. It's been relatively smooth sailing for some years, but recently there have been server problems more often.
