A question to all you avid German bank fans out there... Does anyone have a Deutsche Bank Card Plus? (https://www.deutsche-bank.de/pk/kon...-plus.html?tp=parsys-tabs-tabsParsys-tabpanel)

According to some bits of information I found you get a MasterCard Debit for 18€ a year, 1% AEE and you don't need a DB Girokonto. That would be a good replacement for a boon. to be honest. Better exchange rate, cheaper yearly cost and a physical card. I could also just keep my account for the time being and not have to switch all my accounts. But the Deutsche Bank website doesn't give enough information.

Why not just get a N26 debit card it’s for free MasterCard and maestro card and you don’t pay any fees when paying abroad and having the best exchange rate you can get since you always get the daily rate without any fees. If you don’t want it as a main bank account just go with them.

N26 is not that comfortable - its not auto topping up, so u need to transfer money manually or make a 'Dauerauftrag'. but transferring money need you to keep an eye on the balance on N26 and a Dauerauftrag is not that accurate when having non-planed expenses

I also don't get the N26 hype.
E.g. Tim of freakshow.fm said, that this hipster fintech bank (and also fidor) simply do not manage to tag a "Dauerauftrag" aus "Dauerauftrag", as recipient you can not seperate ist from a normal transfer. He has to know this for his donation account.

These workarounds with second accounts, that you have to put money on just for using Apple Pay are ridiculous.

If you would get the mentioned DB Card that charges your regular bank account, would be a good alternative without this multiaccounts rubbish getting your earnings here, putting them there, paying with this card, categorize it over there... even the prepaid boon card is getting on my nerves because your regular credit card bill gets messed up with "boon. payment via boon" messages and you can't really categorize your spendings.

So would be interesting if the DB card really is sold to non-DB-customers? I don't read it on their website? One possible way to get a clean solution would be Curve, if they are getting Apple Pay running in the near future. Paying with the curve card and the exact amount of money with the correct retailers name is being charged on your regular bill. clean solution.

After two days of playing around with bunq ... don't think this would be a regular basis for me. even the app is not appealing to me. don't know if this should be a banking app or a smartphone game with its elements and imitations of gamification and social networks.

pros: simple and fast activation (did it monday evening at 9pm), instant transfers working (transfered some amounts back and forth of my regular account), fast support, nice community
cons: clearly the app for me. this is nothing that I would call banking app. to less information at first clance, to playful, see above. no access on the desktop/web. and the other little things, that a real bank would offer that have been discussed in this thread.

just my opinion after two days, I do believe that there are many people who are happy with the provided functions and the style. especially young people who think facebook is the internet will love it. but not the bank or app for me.
Though I will keep the account in the next time to watch the development.

A colleague did the same with N26. So we shared experiences.... same result. both banks have nice ideas but are lacking behind other banks at standard functions without delivering a killer feature for us.

funny thing is... many "groundbreaking" functions that both hype banks deliver were already offered by other banks over a decade ago. like the Advance Bank that offered their customers a function like "spaces" or the several accounts at bunq already in the early 2000s.

As often said... the market is big and there are many products that everyone will find a suitable solution.

I acutally ordered it this week. I firmly believe you need a DB account, such as AktivKonto, etc. The application form for the Deutsche Bank Card Plus has many fields where you need to put in your current account number and customer number. Also you need to put in the IBAN of the account from where it deducts the funds - I am not sure if you can put it external accounts there. I can send you the form if you like.

FYI, I work for a company that participates in the "corporate benefits - mitarbeiterangebote" program. With this you can get the AktivKonto for free, the Deutsche Bank Card Plus at 50%, other CCs also at a discount. As I am with DB since childhood, I am really happy about these conditions and I don't even need to think about N26 or anything else (as I also use DKB for outside EU). Maybe worth to check if your company also participates...

Looking forward to use Apple pay with my main account!

edit:

I just checked the form again. It states in the subheader: "Antragstellung nur in Verbindung mit einem DB-Konto möglich". So you need a DB account.

I have the Deutschland Bank Card Plus. I also have a DB account though. And as far as I can remember wackz is right: you need an account.

And I agree: it is far more convenient to have a credit oder debit card that is connected to your main account rather than having a second account which you have to top up all the time. I have no experience with them, but I would look into Hanseatic bank and their credit card.

Thats a good tip. Does anyone has experience with AMEX? someone encountered problems in acceptance being not as good as acceptance with visa/mastercards?

I'm using Amex and it is correct, that the acceptance worldwide is not as wide as of MasterCard/Visa, but it's growing.
(here are a few of the bigger names for every day life usage listed: https://www.americanexpress.com/de/content/kontaktlos/Kontaktlos.html)

I would not recommend it as your primary payment card, neither in the USA nor in Europe. But it's a good choice as a supplemental card beside GiroCard and MasterCard with some nice benefits.

Never thought about getting a mastercard/visa card or an amex thats directly connected to your main account. Now that you people brought that up this really sounds like a good solution. I just stumbled upon that American Express Payback card since my wife is using her payback card anyway all the time. As far as I can see the Amex Payback is free. Does anyone have that specific card or any experience at all with Amex. How about acceptance? Amazon, Apple, Paypal, McDonalds, ALDI, LIDL, Rewe, Penny, Norma, Media/Saturn, Burger King, KFC?

How does Amex work exactly? You connect your bank account with Amex and then they will take them money once a month from your account? Is it possible to manually balance out your Amex card if you feel like it?

Amex works like any other CreditCard or ChargeCard. They charge your regular bank account once a month. Don't know if you can balance your account out of line, never tried it.

Important to know: Amex won't tell you a fixed limit for your card. The limit is variable and depends on your regular behavior, how much do you spend, did it ever came to problems and so on. So if you are a long time customer, never had any issues and use your Amex regularly on a daily basis even for bigger spendings, you can buy a top notch iMac Pro with it.

About your list: Amazon, Apple, PayPal, Aldi, Rewe, Penny, BK, MediaSaturn, ... no problem. Lidl/Kaufland do not support Amex at this moment.

PS: the standard amex (green) is free of charge if you spend over 4000€/year with it. as you get always some nice deals, have a relatively good bonusprogramm, and so on, this limit should be easy to hit ;)

Found something interesting: If you change the region to a supported country and try to add a DKB CC the error message says you have to update your phone to successfully add the card. If you try a VR-Bank CC the usual message appears that the bank doesn’t support ApplePay

German Amex: "not supported yet"
(my old) DKB Visa CC: "not supported yet"

Never saw your popup. And it would be strange, that you have to update iOS to setup a Visa Card.

Yeah, Amex confirmed the Payback card will also support Apple Pay. That's not just a great option but also let's you pay + collect points in just one step (without having to grab your card twice)!

And the idea of having a German Girokonto with a Girocard (for emergencies) and a Debit (either VISA or MasterCard) card is great. I love many of the other solutions, but having one main account for expenditures simplifies your overview. BTW if DKB supported Apple Pay with the VISA card that would basically give me a "Debit" card to use, as you can transfer credit to the card at any point and not have to go below zero.

PS reg DB Bank Card plus: Thanks for information, I'll wait for the launch to make my final decision on what I do with my accounts. Purely for ethical / moral reasons I would not want to bank with Deutsche Bank (although admittedly - double standards, I know! - I have a UK current account with HSBC. They're not much better I suppose). So DKB would be my favourite direct bank to support Apple Pay... We'll see.

On my side:

IngDiba Visa Card "update neccessary"
Santander 1plus card "update neccessary"
DKB Visa "update neccessary"

VRBank Mastercard "not supported yet"
N26 Mastercard "not supported yet"

I cannot confirm the "VISA/MasterCard bias":

ING VISA: "update necessary"
DKB VISA: "update necessary" -> tried about a week ago: "not supported yet"
Revolut VISA: "not supported yet"

N26 MC: "update necessary"
SPK MC: "not supported yet"
bunq MC: "not supported yet"
