My old credit card expires in december and I'm in need of a new one. Really want to grab an AmEx Platinum but the one thing holding me back is the acceptance around here. Kaufland is a big retailer I purchase things from almost every day and it's afaik not supported by them.
I'd go for the platinum card from Sparkasse (my bank) but they seem adamant about not offering Apple Pay? This is really embarrassing to say the least.

I do have a n26 account but that's only due to Sparkasse telling me "nicely" that crypto currency is not supported by them and any payments from/to crypto sites is a no go.

If you are considering an Amex Platinum (600€/year) you don’t care about Kaufland. You buy the plantinum because of other reasons ;)

Lay back and watch the show until launch. And if you want to switch banks, it only takes a few steps and days.

What does the yearly fee have to do with buying at Kaufland. It's the big retailer right next to my workplace where I get lunch multiple times a week or grab the groceries I lack at home after work. I'm the type of guy who has no interest in running around with 30 credit cards, I prefer one payment method (I usually use my normal debit giropay card) but Apple Pay wouldn't require me to carry my wallet around 247 because I wear suits, and a big wallet is annoying in a suit pocket.

You get the Platinum Card for the included services (like getting rare concert tickets, etc) . And Amex was never the card for everyday use in every shop. Not even in the US. You get an Amex for the service and special offerings in certain situations.

For me, it‘s though just a matter of time until the Schwarz Gruppe accepts Amex. Rewe (with Penny), Metro Group (incl. Real and so on), Edeka (with Netto), Aldi ... already accept Amex.

Okay guys! After reading this thread since page 37, I finally am able to say thank you :D I learned a lot about the german banking system and was also always extremely curious on how apple pay will be introduced and I liked also the tweets that you posted.

so THANK YOU FOR THAT!

Don't let this thread die only because it got introduced/announced.

I used the last few months boon, most shops here in munich have actually contactless pay and 9/10 it works fine. Still I'm happy if comdirect will be one of the first partners.

That’s correct!
My region is the Netherlands and for me with iOS 12 beta also Apple Pay is visible. Same with the betas from iOS 11.

We've had this appearance of Apple Pay in Germany before. If you look at the Teltarif screenshot, you can see that Apple Pay Cash has been inserted. This happened with other devs before, even if they had just temporarily switched their device to another Apple Pay enabled country.

To those (ie. @docfred) who have iOS 12 Beta and for whom Apple Pay has appeared: If you try to enter your cards, what's the result? If it states that your bank isn't supported, do you get a link to the banks that are?

As far as I know that happened in Brazil way before AP launched there...

Nope. As I said, it could not be configured. I just see my added boon card.

I just confirmed, that there are German iOS Beta users who see Apple Pay. I‘m one of them but did not mention it here because of ... beta ;) It could mean nothing at all.

BTW: new beta ;-)
[doublepost=1535057125][/doublepost]Thx docfred for not going hysterical about that. Showing Apple Pay in iOS with German region settings is a bug at the moment. Cause the config file has not been updated yet...

When this happens, we should see Apple Pay on all devices with region set to Germany.

The configuration profile I posted a while back doesn’t have to be the only indicator... as stated above: users in other countries were able to get to T&Cs and/or an overview of supported banks well before launch and without the access being given through the server backend.

I don’t think it will launch until later in October either way.

Still put my penny at around mid September. 5 to 6 weeks after the official announcement was made. This would be the same timeframe as of the last couple Apple Pay launches announced at conference calls at least.
Wanna bet? :D

Either way: I just hope it doesn't take that long. I wouldn't mind them launching now and just add banks as they get their systems up and running. Whatever banks launch, they're in it to take my business (and money).

Apple Pay first appears in Safari but configuration was not successful.

I just updated to the latest Public Beta and I used to have my bunq maestro card set up in Apple Pay. I restarted my phone now and in settings the whole Apple Pay section is gone and my card was removed from the wallet. Did this happen to someone else whos on the beta? My phone is on german region setting. I guess I will leave it like this then and wait now until its officially launched. o_O

This has been the case from the very beginning of Apple Pay on the web and in-apps. It's just misconfigured, as the button is only supposed to appear if Apple Pay is available (check your Safari settings for "Allow website to check if Apple Pay is set up").
