I guess its the other way around the calm after the storm. ^^ When Apple announced Apple Pay there was your storm ... now this thread is just slowly dying off.

A little birdie told me that Commerzbank will be there at launch. Took a leap and opened an account (on offer at the moment, including the MC Debit card for free in the first year). Was the smoothest account opening in my life. Ever. 3mins, online, got my IBAN literally after confirming the contract and the video ident was super fast.

Very excited for the launch now... should the above mentioned bank for some reason take some extra time, I have N26 and boon. (or even Monzo in that case) to fall back on. Yep. Apple Pay all the way

Did the same some time ago, when they where giving 200€ extra for an account which costs nothing even without any income to the account. It was smooth and I have a local Commerzbank, which serves me for any stuff local.
Btw, I am using Apple Pay more then ever at the moment, about 10 payments a week. Works like a Charme in nearly all locations except bakery.
The bakery did not even do a response on my mail that accepting wireless payments is also a lot more hygienic, especially in bakeries where they handle bread.

How sure is your birdie?
And would that also mean it‘ll be available for comdirect as well?
The question is, why haven’t they confirmed it like other banks yet. Maybe they are still handling the terms and costs with Apple?

Also, another question is how high the probability is that Girocard or at least the Maestro/V Pay part of it will be supported shortly after the launch. I’m sure Apple Wants a wide market share opportunity and supporting these schemes would be the only way.

BTW: Commerzbank had an IT issue yesterday, there were issues with using cards at terminals and ATMs. Could it be a sign?

I would bet your left leg on CommerzBank launch this year :D

But supporting GiroCard remains the big challenge if Apple Pay and Google Pay want to grow significantly in Germany. That‘s a fact.

Let’s see what Apple provides.

Girocard won't be implemented... That's partly the reason why they have the MC Debit on offer (and I'm totally happy with that - a current account coupled with MasterCard Debit and - for emergencies - Girocard). Comdirect I don't know about, but I assume they'll also be part of a launch. But that's just based on tweets and snippets of information around the net. The comdirect CEO also seemed quite positive about launching in the press: "... nehme ich mal an, dass wir dabei sind."

EDIT: Just my thoughts: Girocard not anytime soon. It doesn’t even handle simple tokenisation yet...

Well not supporting Girocard is kind of expected since it’s not ready from a backend point of view, but Meastro and V Pay shouldn’t pose any issues since they’re already supported in other countries. Only thing necessary would be that the banks implement the card adding feature into the banking apps since there’s no other way of adding these kinds of cards.

Commerzbank is a very, very strange case... I also spoke to Rudolf Linsenbarth about that recently. He seemed just as puzzled at why all communication regarding Apple Pay was so "disastrous" as he put it. He tweeted a while back, that the decisions had already been made - for Apple Pay. That was before this dpa press release: https://www.heise.de/newsticker/mel...auch-Partnerschaft-mit-Apple-Pay-4133975.html

My guess is the same as yours @kkrdvc, that the contracts haven't been signed / finalised and that CoBa / Comdirect are trying to get better terms. But either way they won't be waiting much longer. No way will they want to be left behind their Cash Pool partners and fellow private banks DeuBa and HVB.

Does anyone know if the issued creditcards from DKB like "Lufthansa Miles & More" will be available with Apple Pay? I somewhere read Miles & More denied due to "safety reasons" but there is no official statement. I'd consider if DKB is on board why not their issued branded cards?

Well after their recent IT blackout and catastrophic customer service (hotline is unreachable since about 6-7 weeks ago) I'm not too sure... seems like they have other, more pressing problems.

Of the main direct banks, comdirect are the ones to watch

Well, imho, there’s no way comdirect offers Apple Pay and Commerzbank doesn’t so yeah, it’s highly probable that they’ll have it
