I’m slowly starting to believe that Apple Pay will be launched in Germany this month. The reason for that is that there are some major banks in the neighborhood (PKO Bank Polski, BNP Paribas, Credit du Nord and also Revolut) which have announced the incoming support for Apple Pay and PKO has been saying the launch will be in Q3 2018 and since Apple likes to launch new countries and banks at the same time (multiple examples already, just google it), then we are only left with that possibility. It’ll probably be iOS 12 launch or iPhone Xs sale start.
As I said before, I think it could be released with new iPhones. Apple let others pay (a at least a share of the costs) for marketing, you can see this at the most spots in TV, there is a logo from Telekom, Vodafone or others when showing an ad for a new iPhone. And it would be ideal to have advertising for new iPhone where you show the new iPhone and a new pay to pay. (Even it’s technically old and all nerds know about it - but most cashiers know nothing about it)

@amex
Their app update description says “now with a new design” - probably redone the app and included the Wallet support from the start. Would say, launch is imminent

Strange. The app seems to be identical to the Amex UK app (which has been out for a while), but that doesn't offer in-app provisioning of cards for Apple Pay. All cards need to be added directly through Wallet. Would be strange if that were different for Germany... But we'll see.

The U.K. version of the AMEX app also shows Wallet support, but no use I’ve come across. And I’m sure it’s the same code foundation, as the app looks identical.

But good idea to keep our eyes peeled on the App Store and “suspicious” updates ;-)

Maybe it’s just a new Xcode project and they checked the box for wallet support :)
Perhaps the easiest answer is the correct answer :D

btw: I check to add several cards every few days (different MasterCards and Amex). No change in behavior yet. (--> Card not supported yet, check our list of....)

My wife just forwarded me an email of the sparkasse, just titled "you can now pay with your phone".
Nowhere in the mail they tell the customer, that it only works on android, they send a link where to download the app, which links to the android-store. Dont know how much requests they will gain through that action from ios users ;-)

Did you guys actually read the text? "Um die Anonymisierung Ihrer persönlichen Daten zum Zweck von Datenanalysen zu verhindern [...]"
That sounds to me like an "opt-in" rather than an "opt-out". o_O

(English translation: "To opt-out from our anonymization of your personal information to perform data analyses [...]")

Confusing... Does anyone have more information about that?

I think it is meant like this:
If you are „in“ they will use your data but they have to anonymize the data so that it is not traceable to you.
When you opt-out they are not allowed to use the data at all, event not anonymized.

Yeah I would assume and hope so, too. But it is written in a confusing way. If you want to misinterpret it, opting out could mean, that they can work with your un-anonymized data, which would obviously be worse.
I'll just write Mastercard a quick email so that we hopefully get a clear confirmation.

Quote Sparkasse:
„Mobiles Bezahlen ist sowohl für Android-Smartphones als auch für iPhones offen. Und wenn wir die Möglichkeit haben, dass unseren Kunden eine preisgünstige und datensparsame Möglichkeit geboten wird, dann sind wir auch für Kooperationen mit Dritten offen.“

For me that sounds more like "we won't accept Apple Pay but if Apple will open NFC and we can use our Insellösung "Mobiles Bezahlen" we are fine and we will cooperate with Apple".

What I like is. The guy showing the payment uses iOS and Bokn and is I would say way over 50.
so he got it to work with foreign store!
Great!
And I must admit when I pay at stores the older people show interest, especially when they see me paying with the watch. They ask about security and like the comfort it brings.
No nervous handling of their wallet with the cards, where they look very heavy on them so they don’t get lost.
And Pin usually makes them again nervous as to say „hope I know the right number and don’t mistype the Pin now.“

Also, when I first started using Apple Pay, no cashier ever noticed me using it. But the last couple of mornings in my go-to Rewe, the fast lane was so slow because of all 60-yr-old-momentichhabspassend-2minutensuchend people and when I told the cashier „with card please“ and the payment went through in like 5 seconds she saw my phone and was completely blown away.
She was like „Oh my god, this is so fast. The modern youth really knows how to get everything done quickly.“ And now she smiles every time she sees me paying.

And that’s how you get people to try and use mobile payments themself.

After I wrote the comment on the video, I went to Burger King to get food for the family. Funny, the cashier knew right away what was about to happen, he took the card terminal and reached it to me the other way around so I don't have to turn my wrist down ;-)
The stores get more and more used to it.
Today at Rossmann and DM not even a comment.
