Did the same and now it‘s showing up too. Seems that it has nothing to do with the start here

It's probably a localisation fault. I frequently switch between Germany and UK regions and sometimes the News app get's "stuck" on DE - or has even randomly appeared and disappeared. Sometimes the app disappears but the settings for News remain. If you have switched to the US in the past, then that explains why some people are getting Apple Pay Cash and others aren't. They're the ones that haven't switched to the US

Don't forget this happened in February as well, when everyone thought Apple Pay Cash is incoming.

To once again clarify: I don't have any direct contacts within banks that are high up and would know anything, but I do keep discussions via DMs going on Twitter and other social media channels. "People who know other people" (in the banking scene and should really know stuff) say that nothing is happening with Apple Pay Cash or at least no one is aware of any preparations for a launch. Search Twitter and you'll find that the rumour has appeared here and there that the regular Apple Pay launch in Germany has been moved to November. I don't know if that's true and I also don't know what the reason is. Put that together with the PR guy from the DZ Bank that deleted his tweet about the decision directly from the Volksbank meeting, saying that they had agreed to enter discussions with Apple to launch Apple Pay and that the only question was the possibility of bringing Girocard to Apple Pay. Possibly Apple is willing to postpone the launch to get more banks onboard? Maybe it was Apple's strategy to let the banks that had already signed the contracts to go public about launching Apple Pay and let the customers of non-participating banks cause a ****-storm via social media (ie. ING DiBa / DKB)? Maybe they were/are hoping the banks realise how popular the function would be?
Only thing I can confidently report is that Sparkasse launching Apple Pay is not going to happen - at least not anytime soon. So if you're putting your bargaining chips on them, best to start looking for alternatives. That's what I've done.

Otherwise: Lots of maybes, ifs and buts...

Exactly what I think that should be the reason.

When the rollout comes, we all will get that and not only a few users

Guys, everyone who thinks that Apple Pay is not launching in October is wrong.
As we all know, Rudolf Linsenbarth said on his blog that Commerzbank and comdirect will be launching Apple Pay from the start even though they haven’t announced it officially.

A few days ago he tweeted that in order to support adding cards to Apple Pay, they have to implement the App2App card adding authorization, meaning they have to update their photoTAN apps, both Commerzbank and comdirect.

What’s funny now is that their photoTAN apps haven’t been working on the new XS and XS Max ever since they launched and they still haven’t issued an update for the app, unlike other banks which had issues with their TAN apps and got them updated in 2 days.
This could only mean one thing: they are too busy working on the completely new version and for them it doesn’t make sense pausing the complete new update just to fix the old app. And in order to enable transactions for their customers again, the new app has to launch VERY SOON, because they’ve been requiring 9 cents for every mTAN since September and there’s no free alternative if photoTAN is not working.

I highly doubt that the launch will be delayed. It is coming next week or the week afterwards.

They may have a few more banks coming till the end of the year (Commerzbank and comdirect for example).

The Sparkassen App isnt working either (afaik) so i dont think it has something to do with that.

A few things: I also still believe the launch will be this coming week (or the week thereafter). But some things point to a later launch date.

Also Rudolf Linsenbarth didn't quite get the App2App thing right. In app provisioning of cards is already possible for Google Pay (with Commerzbank at least) and an update could be made possible overnight for Apple Pay. That has happened in other launch countries. It also has nothing to do with photoTAN, so please let's not get things mixed up here...

Sparkasse updated its app and comdirect has also. Commerzbank has already put the update in for review of the photoTAN app, but Apple has such a backlog of apps that need checking after the iOS 12 / iP XS launch. So that statement is false.

Yes, Commerzbank is able to offer in-app card provisioning for Google Pay already, but comdirect does it over their website, which is not really user-friendly.

Comdirect have updated their app for iOS 12, yes, but they haven’t updated it for the new iPhone models as the app is still not working on these phones (take a look at their twitter account or their own community forum).

Sparkasse and DKB have had the same issue where they already updated the app for iOS 12 but the app still didn’t work with the XS/XS Max. They got the app updated the week after the 21.09.

Comdirect has to bring out a new app either way, for multiple reasons:

1. mTAN costs 0,09€ since 01.09. photoTAN is the only free TAN possibility.
2. Visa online payments require TAN as well and since mTAN is now not free anymore, you can’t pay with your visa online on the same phone you have the photoTAN app installed on since you can’t scan the code if it’s shown on the same phone the app is on.
3. They have said they have to have a separate app for confirming transactions for security reasons, so for adding the card to Apple Pay, both photoTAN and their comdirect app have to be updated.
4. They have to make it possible to confirm payments/transactions without having to scan a tan code.

Commerzbank still requires you to confirm the card authorization for Google Pay using photoTAN. Their photoTAN app for Android supports it, but I doubt that the iOS one does support Apple Pay as well.

All of these things have to come asap because they’ve left a huge amount of their customers without a free alternative because mTAN costs money and photoTAN is not working as it should/ not working for many cases.

The app has been updated (two days ago). I got the update. Trust me, I'm now using it on my XS Max.

Once the card is added to Apple Wallet, no further apps or anything is needed. The verification with Apple Pay happens once (at registration). It could also just be a simple SMS - see N26. Just because these banks are really bad at IT and haven't got their apps and backend ready for system updates (such as iOS 12 ... what a surprise when it was released!), doesn't mean that it's down to Apple Pay. If a bank really were to just leave a defunct app (and an important one such as for TAN) sitting around because they were concentrating on Apple Pay and couldn't be bothered to update it, then I would leave that bank immediately.

My experience with comdirect has been good so far and I just put it down to regrettable clumsiness.

I searched in the package of the last update of the Commerbank App. I only found strings for Google Pay, non for Apple Pay. Seems that the App ist some kind of cross platform framework ontop of Swift.

the mentioned apps worked with iOS12. Problems occured only on the new hardware.

for DKB and S I can tell you, that the Apps (Banking and TAN) worked with iOS on iPhone 8+ and SE with iOS12.

That's why I was very suprised as the Apps crashed on my new delivered Xs a week later.

I bet they’re doing Jailbreak detection. This is why it crashed on new devices...

There are some articles in the net, that the secure enclave of the new devices changed and a feedback, that was given before will not be sent by the new secure enclave. Thats why some software was failing on the new devices.

Return of ELV... great. o_O

But honestly: If we had this for Apple Pay that would be a great aid for those accounts that aren't supported. Still hoping for plenty of "native" bank support and this might push banks to implement Google/Apple Pay, as with ELV they're loosing out on that transaction money...
