Update:
MBA 7 Core / 8GB / 512GB Rose Gold ordered on Dec 8th
Apple delivery window of Dec 31st - Jan 7th.
FedEx delivery info still says Dec 31st
Credit Card was charged December 21st.
AppleCare Warranty started December 25th, 2020 (wtf?)
It looks like MBA's are especially delayed. If you want gifts from Apple in time for Christmas, order them in August (somewhat kidding)
I know I am complaining, but with hundreds, if not thousands of aircraft sitting idle in deserts around the world + tens of millions of people out of work across the world; these delays are because companies are unwilling to make it happen. They are unwilling to hire, they are unwilling to invest in a supply chain to meet demand, they are unwilling to charter aircraft to meet demand. Take Amazon for example, I ordered something on Sunday at 11:30 PM, and received it today. I applaud Amazon on their efforts to exceed expectations. Even outside the Amazon-world, I ordered a pineapple from Hawaii on December 18th, and it arrived December 21st.
Funny how that is; Amazon is able to meet and exceed customer expectations so much, that they shape the experience consumers come to expect from all brands. I used to consider Apple on a higher tier than Amazon (with execution, customer satisfaction, etc). Amazon knows shipping delays are an issue. They don't make excuses and push delivery dates out months, they invest in logistics.
The experience with Applecare starting 2 weeks before the device is even scheduled to arrive is just...disappointing and...a head scratcher. This is supposed to be the #1 brand in the world, and they can't write the logic to have AppleCare start either; the day that the device is delivered (simple GET/POST API calls to UPS/FedEx/Apple), or the first day the notebook powers on and connects to the internet (boot-up, connect to SSID, get IP address, POST API call from device to Apple - boom AppleCare activated). Their crappy processes required making phone calls to support, canceling AppleCare, refunding credit cards - and I still need to go buy AppleCare a second time whenever the device decides to show up. You would think that they would have mature enough processes that consumers couldn't sit and whiteboard out solutions to problems in their processes while waiting for their purchase, just sayin.
They got the willpower and $ to create their own silicon......they can do anything. B4 they go off trying to make vehicles, I hope Apple fixes AppleCare registration + invests some $ in logistics.
I'd have bought it locally at the AppleCare store, but in a city with over 400,000 people in the MSA; the closes AppleCare store is like 80 minutes away (another example of Apple unwilling to invest).
Anyone want to place any wagers on the device showing up damaged/defective? Be hilarious if I have to return it and wait another month for a replacement. I've read enough reports of people receiving defective M1 MBA's that it wouldn't surprise me....
