A usb-c charging gen 3 pencil could be the answer as to how to move the camera to landscape in the pro model iPads.
That would be an interesting idea. I gather you mean the camera would be on the pencil and the pencil can dock either on the long or short edge of the iPad?

It's an interesting idea, but it doesn't seem like a design language that Apple would follow because it's combining a non-pencil function with a pencil and these two functions have no use for the other. I could be wrong, of course :) I can see other companies attempt this approach but it doesn't seem it would work with Apple's design.

(But then of course, we now have the monstrosity of a 1st gen Apple pencil that comes with a Lighting to USB C dongle just so the iPad Air can be used with it. That, is very un-Apple like because it's ugly, clunky, and is a design compromise in attempts to continue using an older model with an updated system. Absolute YUCK YUCK YUCK!)

I'm using a 5th gen ipad mini Cellular 256GB that I bought used for €260 which was a frickin' steal. And was thinking about selling it to get the new 10th gen regular iPad. Was so convinced of the move till I saw the price....
No thank you. I'll just stick to the mini 5th gen for a bit longer.

I guess the same price for better specs is only for the "Pro" this time around.

£499 for the new iPad but the basic 9th gen iPad has gone up from £329 to £369! I know dollar pound conversion has a lot to do with this, but £499 for the new iPad is taking the Mickey.

Have Apple given up on mass market appeal?
You can thank our inept government that that price hike. They tanked the pound over the last month.

I'd keep your mini and if you really want a bigger screen buy the 9th gen iPad while you still can, keep them both.

They are stacking multiple layers of ridiculousness with the Pencil 1 issue. The hideous thing sticking out of a lightning port is hard to justify to begin with, but now the fact that they are still doing this after years of having a better alternative, and finally the fact that it needs an adapter is beyond everything I would have imagined Apple doing. Is the adapter flexible at least?
And the prices cannot be justified anymore, especially in Europe. I would have been in the market for a new iPad, but definitely no sale for me at this point.
Ah yes because when you had to stick the pencils into the lightning port to charge it before it was less ridiculous. You do realize you can plug it into a wall charger right? This adapter, when included with the gen 1 pencil, replaces the old one that would let you plug a lightning connector into it to charge via a wall outlet.

Not sure what is more hilarious. All the folks in europe and canada not understanding exchange rates and inflation and claiming apple is being greedy or the folks getting upset that something cost some more money when they had it in their head it was going to be a different cost.

Also if you think the lineup is confusing I don't know what to tell you. You just want an ipad for a kid to have or for browsing or reading books. 9th gen. Want to be able to draw have a fun color but don't need a bunch of processing power? 10th gen. Want more processing power and better hardware and a more advanced pencil? Air. Need the better display and refresh rate or a bigger screen. iPad Pro.

Such a shame the two features I want to see on the pro have come to the base iPad, landscape camera and a 2 in 1 Magic Keyboard… if the base iPad had a laminated display I would have ditched my 11” pro for the base iPad, just the non laminated display is the deal breaker.

Yeah I'm puzzled by all the belly-aching over the inflation price increases. It's a bit rich to expect Apple to drastically reduce their profit margins due to inflationary pressures.

You do realize that you need that adapter to even PAIR the Apple Pencil 1 with the new iPad 10, right? So no, it's not just for charging like the old Lightning adapter.

Oh and btw, the new iPad 10 is 36% more expensive than the predecessor, even in the US. And there's still no 128GB version, which is probably the sweet spot for most users. So yes, Apple is the greediest company on earth.

I can't believe there's no new colours on the Pro. And the colours on the new 10th gen are stupid too. They are targeting the child market with those colours, no doubt.

This iPad makes no sense. Apple knows it's too expensive which is why the iPad 9th gen is still around.

They should have dropped the price of the Air and upgraded the existing iPad to an A14 chip + whatever other small improvements they could have made.
It's clear the direction Apple are going with the iPads (all having the face ID design, just some currently without face id). It's obviously still too expensive for the face ID design to make it's way down to the base iPad, hence this new layer has been added into the mix.

It would be interesting to know if this design would have been able to successfully supplant the 9th gen iPad if it hadn't been for rising inflation.

I think Apple just abandoned the entry market and specially the younger customers like school children. Even for people with good income, a 200 bucks jump for the entry model is a no. And schools will shift away to chromebooks now, they don't have an endless budget.

The new iPad isn't the entry model. The entry model is the 9th gen iPad.

U.K.
So you have to buy a new Pencil, because you can’t pair the one you have!
edit: If you have lost the little adapter, or bought a used one with the adapter missing.

Makes sense. Have an entry-level iPad (2 screen sizes, A-series SoC) and a Pro model (2 screen sizes, M-series SoC,). A tweener model is neither here nor there

I don't think that makes sense. The iPad 10th gen and iPad Air have a whole additional model of iPad between them (iPad Mini) and the iPad Air is the highest price 'non-pro' model. Removing the Air would leave a huge gap between the iPad Mini and iPad Pro 11".

So, other than a repositioned front-facing camera (about friggin time), 5G support on cellular models, and the asinine decision not to support the second generation Apple Pencil, how is this any different than a fourth generation iPad Air?
