I think they’ve priced themselves out the market here.

£350 is accessible to most people. Kids asking for one for Christmas etc might get one. People already in the eco system will grab one for browsing etc.

£499 however is too much. No Apple Pencil 2 support either.

This is no longer a mass market device. Not at this price. Not right now.
Exactly. Apple doesn't have an entry-level iPad anymore. Even the old 9th gen iPad got 80 euro price increase.

Totally agree.

That product reads like a transition product, unless....they are going to come out with a Gen 3 Apple Pencil that charges by USB C port. But why would they?

A usb-c charging gen 3 pencil could be the answer as to how to move the camera to landscape in the pro model iPads.

I just wish they would be publicly shamed for their greedy price increases. I'm sick and tired of company's being allowed to choose whatever price they want. This is getting ridiculous.
If people continue to see value in their products even at the increased prices, they will continue buying.

I'm not sure why you think prices should be controlled mind, it should be up to the free market to determine prices!

As others have said all the prices in the UK of the iPads have increased in price. The iPad Pro 11 M2 is now £899 and the 12.9" model at £1249, the same price of a Macbook Air M2!. This is like some kind of bad joke from Apple. Amazingly there will be the usual Apple apologists who will actually defend this, even applaud Apple for doing it.
The price increases are disgusting in Canada too. Oh yeah there are always morons like that. The biggest ones are those who applaud apple for not providing chargers anymore with their phones, thus giving the customer an incomplete product. It's disgusting. We know apple is here right now reading all of this. They know they are on thin ice dramatically increasing their prices. So u know they are here right now monitoring their customers' reactions.

Correct. It will become increasingly rare to see an outgoing model sold at clearence price when a replacement is unveiled.

This is why last month, I picked up a used M1 MBP with 16GB RAM and 512GB storage.

It's the first time that I found it difficult to justify the price of new apple products.

I think I dropped $3,500 to $4,000 on my 7100/66AV in 1995. Not totally sure as I bought the PowerMac and tons of upgrades piecemeal over a year. That's $6,800 to $7,700 in today's dollars and I was in high school (I got $8 an hour and worked 84 hours a week with overtime during summer vacation).

I get the sentiment. Prices now are worse than a few years ago. With the cost of groceries, cars and housing making Apple price increases hurt more. I try to remind myself how bad the prices of computers and electronics in general used to be. It seems like it was the late 90's when prices of electronics in general plummeted and we've been riding that wave since then.

Why would anyone buy this iPad with 3 years old cpu, 64gb and obsolete pencil instead of a used iPad 11 M1? If you search and have patience you can find one under 500 at OfferUp, eBay or Swappa. Hope nobody buys this 10th-gen rip-off and price tanks.

Remember when the M2 Air came out, how different the user atmosphere was here on macrumors? There was so much excitement and applaud for apple. But look at the user atmosphere now. We are all angry and disappointed. Apple, you screwed up. Your greed has blinded your logic.

The iPad lineup makes no sense now lol.
This new iPad is basically an Air 4… but somehow worse and more expensive. Well, it has a better front camera and 5G I guess lol.
And then they still kept the old design around too… at the same price

I think this time they went to far. Whatever forum you look at, there is everyone complaining about the price increases. New this time, there are rarely people who justify this through evolution or financial crisis. Even those die hard fanboys seem to turn away this time.

For me, i own a 5th generation iPad and planned to switch to a newer device this year. But seriously, i am out now, as i have to pay even 40€ on top for the last year basic ipad. And the new iPad is just ridiculously too expensive. This is the entry ipad, and now you have to pay so much for it, that makes an Android tablet an option now. I love ipads, but only when their prices are justified. Just for browsing, streaming and email, any tablet does the job.

So, if Apple does not change this, i my XR and my current iPad have been the last Apple products. I don't want the top model for 350, but i also don't pay 420 for last years model, and sure not this 5xx for the new basic iPad.

The A14 is still a beast. :) M1 is based on A14. The jump from A14 to A15 was very small. Just like A15 to A16.

So what is the entry level?
The previous generation iPad.

iPads are now at the following pricing levels:

iPad 9th gen £369
iPad 10th gen £499
iPad Mini £569
iPad Air £669
iPad Pro 11" £899
iPad Pro 12" £1249

Is this the first time Apple have used a previous generation iPad to keep a lower price, the same way they've done with the iPhone for a few years?

LOL, Apple is so cheap that they don’t even put in 2nd gen pencil support while increasing the price at the same time. $450 means it will be over $600 when it gets to my country.
Apple must have run out of Home buttons while at the same time had 10 times as many Apple Pencil 1 components stuck on their hands.
