I don't think that makes sense. The iPad 10th gen and iPad Air have a whole additional model of iPad between them (iPad Mini) and the iPad Air is the highest price 'non-pro' model. Removing the Air would leave a huge gap between the iPad Mini and iPad Pro 11".
If you're spending money to buy the iPad Air, you may as well spend the extra $ and get the 11" iPad Pro. You're getting quite a few extra features for not much more.

Since 64GB is not really enough, you'll have to upgrade to 256GB.

For that upgrade, a refurbished iPad Pro 11 (2020) with 256GB is actually cheaper.

Wow.

That’s fine if you can afford it, but not much good for those for whom the iPad Air is as far as their budget stretches.

£499 for the new iPad but the basic 9th gen iPad has gone up from £329 to £369! I know dollar pound conversion has a lot to do with this, but £499 for the new iPad is taking the Mickey.

Have Apple given up on mass market appeal?
Or now can buy a Ipad9 for 273,72 GBP.

I didn't see it that way. Thanks for explaining.
Yes it is the entry level. It is clearly identified as the 10th generation ipad, the old one is the 9th. This is not a tier between the ipad air and the 9th gen, perhaps temporarily, but this IS the entry level ipad. They will no doubt stop selling the 9th gen in just a matter of time. If this was a tier between the 9th and the Air as you say, then it wouldn't be called the 10th gen ipad. It would have a whole new name. So buy the 9th gen while you still can. After it's gone, goodbye budget ipad.

I always buy basic iPads because I primarily use them for reading (90%), occasional Spotify and video viewing, which doesn't require a lot of horsepower. But $449 isn't exactly an entry-level price. Was looking forward to this release, but now I'm conflicted about spending that much for my uses.

Considering pros and cons, the price bump deserved laminated display.
Its mindblowing seeing price of 256Gb version.
Was planning to buy, not anymore. Customers enjoy. Good luck Apple, no money from me this time again.

Same here. I thought it would be cool to have an iPad so I waited for this announcement and thereby missed out on the bonus gift card promo during the summer. With this disgusting price increase, I'd rather just buy an amazon tablet on black friday for all my content video watching needs.

I agree it is likely a temporary tier until they can get the price down to the entry level iPad territory.

Apple is selling refurbished 4th gen iPad Airs for less which have a better (P3) fully laminated display and 2nd gen Apple Pencil support. Only thing people would be losing out on is the upgraded landscape front camera and 5G on the cellular models. Not sure who this thing is for tbh.

You do realize that you need that adapter to even PAIR the Apple Pencil 1 with the new iPad 10, right? So no, it's not just for charging like the old Lightning adapter.

Oh and btw, the new iPad 10 is 36% more expensive than the predecessor, even in the US. And there's still no 128GB version, which is probably the sweet spot for most users. So yes, Apple is the greediest company on earth.
yeah one time you have to do that. If you buy a new Apple Pencil it will have that adapter. Or it is 9 dollars.

Yeah I know it is more in the US. Folks are complaining that existing iPads have gone up in price, which is not Apple trying to stiff folks. It is just funny watching a bunch of folks who were never going to buy this iPad complain about it.

You can get the 2022 iPad Air at Amazon for $519. Why would anyone buy the new 10inch iPad for $80 bucks more?
You also probably can find the iPad Air 2020 for even less than that.. It is pretty much the same as this new iPad at this point .

I don’t believe Apple will give up the entry level iPad pricing. I think it’s likely too lucrative for them to give up on it.
What do you mean? The only "entry level ipad pricing" that exists is because of the 9th gen iPad which will be shortly phased out as now it's been replaced by the 10th gen. The 10th gen is here, the price is here. Period. They're not going to reduce the price, lmao. So if you want "entry level ipad pricing," buy the 9th gen while it's still possible. For after it's gone, budget ipad's won't exist anymore.

The colors are nice. I would have liked to see the red or yellow on the iPad Air. Oh well.
But the price 🤣

I can't wait for the prices for Apple devices to get back to a more reasonable level...

what is the difference between ipad10 and ipad air4?
From what I can tell the iPad 10 has a little bit better front camera and 5G vs 4G for cellular models
