I have an old Ipad (2012 or 15 I think) and I'm thinking about upgrading. I probably don't need to, as I really don't use the Ipad much anymore, but I still use it a bit. I've been out of the loop when it comes to the new Ipads that I don't really know what to look for.

I genuinely hope these price increases drives customers away from Apple products and onto other devices. I'm sure the Galaxy Tab S8 is much better than majority of these iPads that are being released. I'm also sure that Samsung doesn't take the p*** out of their customers with these price increases, nice of them to also throw in a few freebies as well. I mean increasing the iPad Air price a year after it's been released to 600+ is genuinely taking the mick out of everyone. This is pathetic behaviour from a company like Apple and the sad thing is they don't and won't ever care.
I'm a shareholder, and I completely agree with this sentiment.

Someone at Apple needs to realize how utterly boneheaded this has become.

Tech forum dwellers:
“Oh my god, it doesn’t have nearly the uplift from the previous gen to warrant X,Y, or Z”

Normal people:
“My 5 year old iPad could do with a replacement. Oh I like the yellow one, I’ll take it”.

I've been waiting for a few months for the iPad 10th gen and I'm completely disappointed it doesn't support Apple Pencil 2. So I just ordered a refurbished iPad Air 4th gen from Apple's online store. It's only $20 more than the 10th gen iPad!
It's very nice device. Modern and powerful. And better built than Air 5.

I have an iPad Pro 2021, but I want the yellow one just because it's so beautiful. It's 650 dollars (!!??) in my country though, up from 399 from the previous gen. That's a hard sell.

Air 4th Gen at a retailer discount is the “iPad 10th Gen“ we need.

Essentially all the key iPad 10 specs acro the board but with the addition of laminated and anti reflective display and 2nd Gen Pencil support.

Only reason to go with the inferior 10th Gen is for 5G on the cellular model. And then maybe the landscape camera. Idk. Not compelling reasons considering it’s not seeing discounts anytime soon.

This 10th Gen might get interesting after its next spec bump. But not like this, not at $449+.

"Starting at €579". So that's € 1000 for a 64GB entry level Wifi ipad with a € 299 keyboard and an € 129 pen that now sticks out even more with the new adapter. And unlike the new appleTV, 64gb of ssd don't cost €20 but €66. Because, why not?

🤣🤡🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤡

My take: Apple's going to retire the 'Air' branding and have just iPad (cheap), iPad and iPad Pro.

In fact, I'd go as far as to say that they knew they messed up with the current iPad Air as a business strategy. It's so ridiculously close to the iPad Pro in spec terms that it's needlessly confusing.

At Apple we listen to customer complaints. So you say the M1 is already overpowered for an iPad? No problem, we've downgraded it to an A14. Now you might run into actual hardware constraints again. 😁🤪😂

I think we already know Apple aren't interested in appealing to those people for whom even $479 is unaffordable. That's the Android market, typically.
They are not but it’s more so about the value of their mid-range stuff being totally outmatched by rivals at the same or a lower price point. My iPad Air 5 is built like s#*t and the screen gets distorted like you’re pressing on the LCD by literally holding it. That got bumped from I believe €600 (EDIT: €549) to €749 today when a €429 Samsung that’s obviously built better and performs like an A14 and even has an OLED and 128GB at least is right there and that’s what Europeans will obviously be getting because we’re not even tied into the ecosystem like that. Notice my named prices are in Euro so my post is more so about how we look at their products. Apple are applying this weird aggressive funneling to the Pro line by withholding features cheaper competitors have that makes all products they offer seem like a bad deal compared to the other brands here. Samsung and especially their flagships are way cheaper here when they’d both be the same $999 in the US. Facts is Apple are acting like they want to lose their already very non-loyal European user base and it’s disappointing to people who like the brand.

They have increased the prices of the iPad air! Before it was 549 and now its 669! Why!?
Because nobody would have bought the new ipad if they could get an air for the same price. Now the air is the upsell. Old devices, new profits.

Then people will pick the Samsung if that’s what they want.

Exactly. Apple doesn't have an entry-level iPad anymore. Even the old 9th gen iPad got 80 euro price increase.
Which is a real shame.

The iPad is often people’s intro to the apple eco system. Now when looking for a tablet, the ‘entry level’ iPad with no pencil 2 support is £499. An entry level Samsung with a stylus included is what £250?

Average joe will not see that as worth the extra. People who wanted to upgrade their current iPad 6/7/8/9 etc will look at that and think ‘are they having a laugh’. And go elsewhere.

I’ve got an air 4. Which cost me less than apples ‘entry level’ iPad would now.

Absolutely ridiculous pricing on apples behalf. I mean, genuinely mind boggling. Nobody in their right mind will think, I know let’s spend £500 apples basic, entry level device. It is absolute insanity.

And to whack the 9th Gen up £50 too?

They're obviously testing the waters with what they can get away with. Broad product palette, skyhigh prices - I guess, next up is introducing the Newto... ...um, Reality Headset.
