£499 in the UK, with the Air bumped up too. No way.

I know tech advances and there’s global economic challenges but I miss the days when the latest iPad was £329. I got the iPad Air 2 (Wi-Fi) in 2014 (was the latest iPad at the time) for £329 in Argos.

Interestingly, 2014s £329 is worth £409 today.

Haven't read all 15 pages, sorry.

Just wanted to say, hopeless, £500 in the UK, this is not a cheap iPad anymore.

The whole point of the entry-level iPad was that it was a bargain. So I hope they keep the £369 9th generation or equivalent for a long time and don't phase it out.

Max Tech channel on YT states that the display is not laminated ... is the guy false or it's really like that?

This can't be more ridiculous after all.

It's true...
Screencap is from Apple's site.

I am in the (apparently small) camp that is getting one.

I have the OG 12.9 with the Pencil 1. I use the Pencil enough that I want to keep using it, but not enough I want to pay for an upgrade.

So, this model gives me:
- A larger screen than the general 9 iPad.
- I can still use my Pencil 1
- USB-C charging so I just need to drag one cable around.
- Fun colors.

Going to an Air isn't just $150 more for me. Since I'd have to replace a functioning Pencil, it's close to $280.

I can deal with the dongles and weird charging. I've put up with it since 2015 anyway.

My iPad use has gone down to mostly content consumption and light drawing/note taking. I don't want to spend a lot to do this.

What on earth was the point of ploughing money into developing an all new MK Folio when they could have made it work with the MK? They’ve thrown money at it just to come across as even more stingy. If they really wanted to make a MK Folio it could have been universal.

Pricing is atrocious here in the UK... We've had budget iPads since 2017 around £300, I bought the iPad 5 then as it was a steal compared to the other models. It's become quite slow so I hoped to cop an upgrade this year. The 10th gen iPad is £499, when you can buy the 9th gen for £299... And the price hike seen on the Air is crazy, the economy is failing yes but a £100 premium on a device that's 6 months old. cmon

$449 to start?!! 🤣😂🤣😂🤣

Should be more like $349—Apple must have made a typo. lol

And it is USB-C but still uses the first Apple Pencil with Lightning connection? WTF

As long as people keep buying whatever they release, Apple won’t care how ridiculous they get, the consumers sure don’t…

This should tank in sales because it’s absolutely lazy design and being cheap in many areas.

It’ll probably set records. 🤣 Also iPads are useless as long as they’re still crippled by iPad OS. Needs to be fully functional.

Slightly incorrect.
The new iPad Air is priced from $599. M1 chip. Mar 8, 2022

Still the price increase is an insult. Apple has some explaining to do here.

The prices quoted by the OP are correct in the UK (though I was amazed that the Air 5 was not more expensive at launch.) They could easily have charged £599 or even maybe even £629 then without anybody batting an eyelid, £669 for a 6 month old device is sickening.

It might also be a bit like the Air Fryers… cashing in because they know there is a demand to avoid the more expensive to run alternative (the PC and TV.) To be honest it feels artificially high to try and make the base model sell at £499. People would have expected £100 on that. But not a ridiculous £180!

In a nice Apple world, we would get the 10th Gen iPad at a 9th Gen price or close to it. In a not so nice Apple World, Apple keeps the 9th Gen at the same price while pricing the “replacement” model close enough to a more expensive model that they hope you’ll buy instead. With that being said, I do like that blue one.

I for one understand the $450 price tag given all the development this took: they grabbed the iPad Air 4, derived from the old 2018 iPad Pro design, and then painstakingly removed features and made it clumsy to use and altogether weirdly unattractive. This takes a lot of effort and money so it’s only natural for Apple to also reap the financial rewards.

Lol Apple has become a joke of a company. Please tell me people are starting to wake up to their BS pricing and stop buying their products for the time being until prices return to normal levels.

After the iPhone release you knew Apple was going to jack up prices on the iPads. Increasing the price on older models like the 9th gen iPad and iPad Air just shows how out of touch Apple has become with reality.

They think they can mug off their customer base but it will come to a head soon.

If you buy the new iPad, you also can't use Stage Manager with it. Wow. Imagine buying a brand new device and it can't even support the latest iPadOS full feature set.
