They're obviously testing the waters with what they can get away with. Broad product palette, skyhigh prices - I guess, next up is introducing the Newto... ...um, Reality Headset.
Absolutely, covering a number of price points and trying to find the price ceiling.

The entry level iPad is £369.
That’s last years iPad. And still £50 too much.

Who’s paying £50 more for year old tech than they’d have paid yesterday? Not saying it’s not a capable device, it’s apple, of course it is. But the £50 price increase makes it £50 too expensive.

I last bought an iPad new when it was the Air 1 and it was the 128gb version I bought and I remember paying over £600 for that at the time (Jan 2014) direct from Apple so actually you could argue for 256gb you’re paying a similar price some 8.5 years later.

It doesn’t matter if it’s last years, it’s still the entry level.

Yes inflation has a lot to answer for! We all suffer as our money is devalued.

So now you can't charge the Apple Pencil through the charge port anymore? I guess that'll end the complaints over "bad design". Or will it? I don't even know anymore.

Does the adaptor not charge the pencil when connected to the iPad?

Anyone in the UK who waited.for the 10th Gen and decided it's just too uncomfortably costly, John Lewis still have the 9th Generation for £299 delivered with a 2 year guarantee.

It'll do for me and most people I guess, and I would imagine with today's price increases it'll probably go up in price soon.

Ta,

Vote with your wallets y'all. That's about all I can say here. This will eventually replace the old model completely, probably at a $350 price point rather than $329 but like the MBA they put it at a higher starting price to recoup the "new" design.
You think they'd lower the price?! Lmao 😂

Apple Pencil 1st generation support only.

This is a base model iPad. Of course it's not going to have or support the latest/greatest of everything. If you want 100% features, then you have to pay for a higher model. Pretty much works that way with any product in the world out there 🤷🏼‍♂️

Yes 1000% agree I have been making this point as well. This is an experiment for them to see how their customers react to this new greedy price. They are no doubt all over the internet observing us as we react.

they should have used the Air 3 / Pro 10.5" design and keep the price low

this is really a step into a wrong direction ... they've literally put an extra effort to make it worse

hence the different pin location or the lack of Apple Pencil 2nd gen magnet ...

It’s not reaction that matters, it’s sales. People will scream bloody murder, and then buy the damn thing all the same!

I don’t use a pencil and found the Air 5 pink disappointing, so would be very interested were it not for the outdated processor and the insane UK pricing.

Times are hard, iPads are luxuries and luxuries have to be curtailed. Especially with the imbecile Truss continuously moving the goalposts. I can’t see them selling nearly as many as they used to. Had there been a price freeze I still think sales would have fallen.

The economic outlook is totally out of Apple’s hands. They can only shore up their own house.

I think it was to do with the Apple Pencil Magnet Placement. Correct me if I'm wrong
Maybe not the magnets, but the charging coils. That’s actually a good point, and might explain why the new iPad doesn’t support the Pencil 2 and why the iPads who support the Pencil 2 will be keeping a portrait camera. It’s still stupid though. They should design a camera-compatible Pencil 3. And the iPad mini should get a landscape camera anyway.

I'm surprised I had to go to Apple's site and look at the specs page to find out whether it has a headphone jack.

It does not.

I feel like this should have been in the article and am very surprised it's not a top comment.
