What do you mean? The only "entry level ipad pricing" that exists is because of the 9th gen iPad which will be shortly phased out as now it's been replaced by the 10th gen. The 10th gen is here, the price is here. Period. They're not going to reduce the price, lmao. So if you want "entry level ipad pricing," buy the 9th gen while it's still possible. For after it's gone, budget ipad's won't exist anymore.
I suspect they’ll be keeping the iPad 9th gen around for at least until the point in time the new design can be made at the same price point. I suspect this is the same situation as with the iPhone where old models continue to be made to bring iPhones down to lower price points.

I don’t believe Apple will give up the entry level iPad pricing. I think it’s likely too lucrative for them to give up on it.

At least in Europe they did say goodbye very loudly. From 379€ to 579€ is a heavy jump! This isn't justified by inflation or whatever excuse one might think of. And pushing the old model 50€ higher is a kick in the ass of those who have to save money to get a basic iPad.

Seriously, their good standing in the tablet market and dominating it began with the ipads below 400€. Now they stepped back from being a mass product to some outdated luxury product what the ipad was when it was brand new. But tablets have become a daily tool, and most people have no specific reason to stay with apple, as of most things in the entertainment field are identical on Android.

They killed the 10 before it was in the shelves and the 9 will be sold much less than it would have with the old price or even the obligatory price drop.

The base iPad model went up in price, which is an inflationary increase. The new tier of iPad joins the ranks at £500.

Love how we all agree this line-up is soooo confusing and we’re enthusiasts so we’re not like the average consumer. Apple is trying to hit too many price points while confusing the buyer and the cheap offerings are laughably bad against the Android competitors. I don’t understand why this one exists especially at this price. USB-C and no Apple Pencil 2 support is also crazy. Not that many are buying anything Apple in Europe with these euro prices but we’ve had that conversation before. Just my 2 cents…

Apple was right to do this greedy product release as a press release than an in-person event. They don't do live events anymore, just pre-filmed and shown in the theatre. Could you imagine if they unveiled this at an IN-PERSON, LIVE event (not pre-filmed)?? Sh*t would have been thrown on stage. Of course they're going to want to hide. Price increases are much easier to do through closed doors than face to face.

It's not the base model. The base model is the newest low spec model of the year. What you talk about is the last years base model.

I think offering more price points to suit more budgets is a wise move.

Last year's base model is also this year's base model. The new iPad is a tier above that. Base model is determined by whichever is the cheapest.

No, it's not. Seriously, based on that logic there are only base models, as they are are a tier on their own. Just selling a last generation does not make it a base model. Specially not if the price increases when specs are identical and no, the inflation in Europe is not that high that the price goes up 50€. You dont see that for any other technical product in Europe, they might climb 10€ or so, but most even got cheaper.

The inflation in europe is for the most part for energy and food, Android tablets did not go up.

For 8 years now I have voted with my wallet and only bought used or refurbished Apple products. I was nevertheless considering buying a couple of these new for the kids in anticipation of their release but I now think I shouldn’t even consider Apple anymore at all for these kinds of products. Sub $200 Samsung tablets will cover all the kids‘ activities.

I thought this was too good to be true and then saw the price. At $450, it’s an odd one. For $150 more, you get M1, Pencil 2 support, laminated display, and anti glare display for that price (and lose the landscape camera).

Usually I’d agree but it’s not necessary when the difference is so small and Apple is competing in the mid- to ultra-high price ranges already. People like having choice when the choice is clear.
If they’re seeking to appeal to more people they don’t need a price point in between €479 and €799, they need a price point way below €479. Same with all other products.

Just bought two 2021 9th Gen Ipads for $270 /ea on Amazon.
I prefer lightning and the headphone jack and home button anyway.

The cost for *both* is $90 higher than buying a *single* 10th gen ipad!
For 90+% of the performance, and in my mind better features. I don't even like USB-C.

This tempts me to buy one of the discounted 14" macbook pros.. I'm afraid what they are going to do with the new pricing.

The base model is the cheapest available. By definition, it is the model at the base.

I think we already know Apple aren't interested in appealing to those people for whom even $479 is unaffordable. That's the Android market, typically.

$449 while the old model stays at $329.

Should have expected those shenanigans, it would’ve been too good to be true otherwise.

Edit: 1gen Apple Pencil support with USB-C dongle needed? What a joke.
I could have accepted $449 if it supported 2nd Gen Apple Pencil and started with 128GB.

This is much more a ploy to get you jump to the $599 Air and then realize that it’s also terrible value with only 64GB and then just settle for the 11” Pro.

It’s what Tim Cook does best!

It's the classic unselling strategy that Apple are so very good at.

Air 4

1. 2nd gen pencil
2. Smart Keyboard Folio
3. Fully laminated LCD screen.
4. Wide color gamut

I've been waiting for a few months for the iPad 10th gen and I'm completely disappointed it doesn't support Apple Pencil 2. So I just ordered a refurbished iPad Air 4th gen from Apple's online store. It's only $20 more than the 10th gen iPad!
