That is a total WTF. SMH.The biggest wtf is Apple Pencil 1 with lightning on an iPad with USB-C like wtf
I was waiting on buying an iPad for this one, but silly me thinking it would be $329 or even $349.$449 while the old model stays at $329.
Should have expected those shenanigans, it would’ve been too good to be true otherwise.
Edit: 1gen Apple Pencil support with USB-C dongle needed? What a joke.
That's the price it was at Apple this morning. I grabbed one a few weeks ago because I guessed the price would be adjusted with the release of the new iPads due to the poor exchange rate between the Pound and Dollar.John Lewis have the iPad Air at £569, which is £100 cheaper than Apple.
It seems like Apple is just trying to funnel most people up to the Pro line by playing games with storage and features…they hope that you will “just pay a little more” to get the exact configuration you want because by the time you add extra storage the price gap between the models lessens and the Pro lines begins to look like a “better deal” because it has more features.Love the Magic Keyboard Folio idea and the larger trackpad (from the looks of it) and the function keys. Love the colours of the iPad 10 - definitely like the red one.
iPad Pro is what we expected with the M2 chip. Surprised there’s no MagSafe as rumoured but the Apple Pencil proximity features are a nice addition that I envision will bring it closer to the feel of Wacom styluses.
iPad looks to continue it’s run as being a good value, all-rounder. Price increases on the new (and existing) models in the UK (and presumably other EU countries) aren’t welcome but given the economic situation it’s somewhat expected (still not any less annoying).
However, that’s my positive comments on todays announcement. As for the rest, it’s a bit more mixed.
I’m just very concerned about how bloated the iPad line is becoming. How much overlap there is between devices and how much fragmentation there is with the accessories. For the uninitiated the iPad lineup is more convoluted and confusing than ever now.
You’ve now got an iPad that looks near identical to the iPad Air and the iPad Pro 11-inch at first glance, with it’s own set of accessories that aren’t compatible with the other models despite it looking the same (e.g. 1st gen Apple Pencil support v 2nd gen Apple Pencil support).
You’ve got better features (such as a function row on the magic keyboard folio and landscape camera) on the cheaper option. You’ve got magic keyboards, magic keyboard folios, Smart Keyboard folios, two generations of Apple Pencil and the 9th gen iPad sticking around to muddy the lineup even more (I get it’s to alleviate the cost increase on the 10th gen). The first gen Apple Pencil requires a dongle ffs.
Even as someone who follows Apple it’s becoming hard to keep track of the iPad ecosystem, but I feel sorry for anyone trying to buy an iPad in 2022 and trying to make sure they get all the right accessories in case they don’t all work together. I can imagine the holidays this year being full of people saying ‘help my Apple Pencil won’t work with my new iPad’ only to realise they have an iPad 10 and an 2nd gen Apple Pencil. ‘But why, my sister has the same iPad and hers works with the 2nd gen Apple Pencil’ - no sorry, your sister has an iPad Air.
Apple really need to decide where they want the iPad to go from here because at the moment it’s like the iPad is having an identity crisis not just on the software front but also the hardware front - and if they don’t know what they want from it, how are the customers?
As long as people keep buying from them and excusing their practices, Apple will continue doing it.I just wish they would be publicly shamed for their greedy price increases. I'm sick and tired of company's being allowed to choose whatever price they want. This is getting ridiculous.
It's OK, Apple will sell you a dongle to allow you to charge it..1st-gen Apple Pencil support..... pass.

Blows my mind as well. I’m wondering if Apple needed another year to figure out how to move the camera and still charge the gen 2 pencil on the pro model iPads. Next year… sigh…So this gets the camera repositioned but not the Pro? WTF.
Completely redesigned... price!
