This just looks like a watered down iPad Air with an A14 chip. The better deal would be just getting the Air. They practically look the same.

$449 while the old model stays at $329.

Should have expected those shenanigans, it would’ve been too good to be true otherwise.

Edit: 1gen Apple Pencil support with USB-C dongle needed? What a joke.
I was waiting on buying an iPad for this one, but silly me thinking it would be $329 or even $349.

I just ordered a new iPad Air (64GB) from Amazon. At $519, or $70 more, it was a no brainer. I guess they don’t want this to cannibalize iPad Air sales. Mission accomplished, Apple! 🖕

I genuinely hope these price increases drives customers away from Apple products and onto other devices. I'm sure the Galaxy Tab S8 is much better than majority of these iPads that are being released. I'm also sure that Samsung doesn't take the p*** out of their customers with these price increases, nice of them to also throw in a few freebies as well. I mean increasing the iPad Air price a year after it's been released to 600+ is genuinely taking the mick out of everyone. This is pathetic behaviour from a company like Apple and the sad thing is they don't and won't ever care.

At first this looked great and I was considering buying it. I have a 5th gen iPad and have been itching for an 11 Pro or 10,9 Air for years but my use case doesn’t justify the price of these models.

However the fact that it starts at 64 and 256 makes it as expensive as the Air model is just ridiculous. 64GB for a computer replacement device (which has been used in the marketing) is not OK. And if you go 256 for the Air you have the same price as the base model Pro.

No Apple Pencil 2 support is also pretty lame. They could have had the adapter as a solution for Apple Pencil 1 users but for gods sake don’t sell that as the standard choice.

I was exited about this as I thought it was a super upgrade over the 9gen but I won’t be buying this sadly. My 6th gen will have to soldier on.

Love the Magic Keyboard Folio idea and the larger trackpad (from the looks of it) and the function keys. Love the colours of the iPad 10 - definitely like the red one.

iPad Pro is what we expected with the M2 chip. Surprised there’s no MagSafe as rumoured but the Apple Pencil proximity features are a nice addition that I envision will bring it closer to the feel of Wacom styluses.

iPad looks to continue it’s run as being a good value, all-rounder. Price increases on the new (and existing) models in the UK (and presumably other EU countries) aren’t welcome but given the economic situation it’s somewhat expected (still not any less annoying).

However, that’s my positive comments on todays announcement. As for the rest, it’s a bit more mixed.

I’m just very concerned about how bloated the iPad line is becoming. How much overlap there is between devices and how much fragmentation there is with the accessories. For the uninitiated the iPad lineup is more convoluted and confusing than ever now.

You’ve now got an iPad that looks near identical to the iPad Air and the iPad Pro 11-inch at first glance, with it’s own set of accessories that aren’t compatible with the other models despite it looking the same (e.g. 1st gen Apple Pencil support v 2nd gen Apple Pencil support).

You’ve got better features (such as a function row on the magic keyboard folio and landscape camera) on the cheaper option. You’ve got magic keyboards, magic keyboard folios, Smart Keyboard folios, two generations of Apple Pencil and the 9th gen iPad sticking around to muddy the lineup even more (I get it’s to alleviate the cost increase on the 10th gen). The first gen Apple Pencil requires a dongle ffs.

Even as someone who follows Apple it’s becoming hard to keep track of the iPad ecosystem, but I feel sorry for anyone trying to buy an iPad in 2022 and trying to make sure they get all the right accessories in case they don’t all work together. I can imagine the holidays this year being full of people saying ‘help my Apple Pencil won’t work with my new iPad’ only to realise they have an iPad 10 and an 2nd gen Apple Pencil. ‘But why, my sister has the same iPad and hers works with the 2nd gen Apple Pencil’ - no sorry, your sister has an iPad Air.

Apple really need to decide where they want the iPad to go from here because at the moment it’s like the iPad is having an identity crisis not just on the software front but also the hardware front - and if they don’t know what they want from it, how are the customers?
It seems like Apple is just trying to funnel most people up to the Pro line by playing games with storage and features…they hope that you will “just pay a little more” to get the exact configuration you want because by the time you add extra storage the price gap between the models lessens and the Pro lines begins to look like a “better deal” because it has more features.

I just wish they would be publicly shamed for their greedy price increases. I'm sick and tired of company's being allowed to choose whatever price they want. This is getting ridiculous.
As long as people keep buying from them and excusing their practices, Apple will continue doing it.

I think they’ve priced themselves out the market here.

£350 is accessible to most people. Kids asking for one for Christmas etc might get one. People already in the eco system will grab one for browsing etc.

£499 however is too much. No Apple Pencil 2 support either.

This is no longer a mass market device. Not at this price. Not right now.

As others have said all the prices in the UK of the iPads have increased in price. The iPad Pro 11 M2 is now £899 and the 12.9" model at £1249, the same price of a Macbook Air M2!. This is like some kind of bad joke from Apple. Amazingly there will be the usual Apple apologists who will actually defend this, even applaud Apple for doing it.

I regret waiting for this new ipad announcement because I could have just bought it during the summer when they had the education promo of a bonus $140 (Cdn.) gift card. I was hoping there would be a midnight coloured ipad or something MUCH better than this. But NOPE! Instead more greed infestation, more price increases. Disgusting. Purposely made an inferior product with outdated flaws like only support for the 2015 1st gen pencil. That's disgusting. Seriously, there needs to be tighter laws for this. This is DELIBERATE, SHAMELESS greed.

Also, there are too many iPads on sale right now. They need to simplify it. Just like there is with iPhones.

They are stacking multiple layers of ridiculousness with the Pencil 1 issue. The hideous thing sticking out of a lightning port is hard to justify to begin with, but now the fact that they are still doing this after years of having a better alternative, and finally the fact that it needs an adapter is beyond everything I would have imagined Apple doing. Is the adapter flexible at least?
And the prices cannot be justified anymore, especially in Europe. I would have been in the market for a new iPad, but definitely no sale for me at this point.
