Love the yellow. Was almost tempted to buy it just because it's yellow...

But not compatible with Pencil 2? Only 1? With an adaptor for charging?

That's the dumbest design choice ever.

And an extra $120? Major pass.

Their greed has ruined the massive value of the iPad. Surely they could've kept the price at $400 or less, even if they removed the 9th Gen?

To make it work with the Pencil 2 they would have gone with a laminated display, so would have increased the price even more. That said it is still $50 too high IMO.

Which further goes to my point...why have both models? Sure, they want to fill in every possible price point.

But the iPad Air is sandwiched between this new 10th gen and iPad Pro 11". Might as well kill off it off at this point.

Love the Magic Keyboard Folio idea and the larger trackpad (from the looks of it) and the function keys. Love the colours of the iPad 10 - definitely like the red one.

iPad Pro is what we expected with the M2 chip. Surprised there’s no MagSafe as rumoured but the Apple Pencil proximity features are a nice addition that I envision will bring it closer to the feel of Wacom styluses.

iPad looks to continue it’s run as being a good value, all-rounder. Price increases on the new (and existing) models in the UK (and presumably other EU countries) aren’t welcome but given the economic situation it’s somewhat expected (still not any less annoying).

However, that’s my positive comments on todays announcement. As for the rest, it’s a bit more mixed.

I’m just very concerned about how bloated the iPad line is becoming. How much overlap there is between devices and how much fragmentation there is with the accessories. For the uninitiated the iPad lineup is more convoluted and confusing than ever now.

You’ve now got an iPad that looks near identical to the iPad Air and the iPad Pro 11-inch at first glance, with it’s own set of accessories that aren’t compatible with the other models despite it looking the same (e.g. 1st gen Apple Pencil support v 2nd gen Apple Pencil support).

You’ve got better features (such as a function row on the magic keyboard folio and landscape camera) on the cheaper option. You’ve got magic keyboards, magic keyboard folios, Smart Keyboard folios, two generations of Apple Pencil and the 9th gen iPad sticking around to muddy the lineup even more (I get it’s to alleviate the cost increase on the 10th gen). The first gen Apple Pencil requires a dongle ffs.

Even as someone who follows Apple it’s becoming hard to keep track of the iPad ecosystem, but I feel sorry for anyone trying to buy an iPad in 2022 and trying to make sure they get all the right accessories in case they don’t all work together. I can imagine the holidays this year being full of people saying ‘help my Apple Pencil won’t work with my new iPad’ only to realise they have an iPad 10 and an 2nd gen Apple Pencil. ‘But why, my sister has the same iPad and hers works with the 2nd gen Apple Pencil’ - no sorry, your sister has an iPad Air.

Apple really need to decide where they want the iPad to go from here because at the moment it’s like the iPad is having an identity crisis not just on the software front but also the hardware front - and if they don’t know what they want from it, how are the customers?

Since there will be an adapter to use Apple Pencil 1 on this iPad, I’d be VERY interested in finding out if you can now use Apple Pencil 1 on the Pro. I’ll eventually get a new pencil, but would be awesome if I could still use my pencil 1 on the pro…

Big price increase, 1st gen pencil only. $120 price increase? Honestly what a joke. I picked up a 2018 11 iPad Pro with a smart keyboard folio for $330 on eBay, and after checking the battery on coconut it was 99.7 percent health. The previous owner seemed to have gotten it for art and then gave up with only 30 charge cycles on it.

Part of me was worried that the new 10th gen would be competitive in that same price range. Guess I made a good gamble after all. For $449 this tenth gen seems like it only exists to upsell customers to the air to be honest.

Are they ****ing high? What is this garbage? Who is gonna buy this over the 9th gen iPad or the iPad Air?

The 4th gen iPad Air from 2 years ago was US$499 for 64GB with A14 with apple pencil 2 support and a fully laminated display?
(EDIT: My bad it was US$599, but that doesn't change my position)

Now this is $449 without either of those things? Apple has lost their minds and I hope they get absolutely **** on in every review.

You know what this should've been?

$349 - 64 GB
$399 - 128 GB
$499 - 256 GB

WITH Bluetooth 5.3, Apple Pencil 2 support, fully laminated display.

(It has Bluetooth 5.2 but if an Apple Watch SE and every other product launch this fall can have 5.3 why can't this?)

And honestly they should've also introduced an Apple Pencil 3 at $129 with u1/find my like AirPods pro case and pushed pencil 2 down to $99 and killed pencil 1.

Also RIP to customers outside the US seeing price increases for other iPads. US remains unaffected of course.

The fact is uses the first gen pencil is laughable.

The new Keyboard Folio looks like a cool option, but of course doesn't work with the Pro Models.

Oh yea, upselling to the higher end models must have been the underlying theme in designing this. No doubt. Like a bunch of weasels increased the prices of the ipad air and more. Making it compatible with only the 1st gen pencil, f*** apple.

At first glance, I love the refreshed iPad. Updated design, vibrant selection of colours, but boy do some of the specifications disappoint.

Really need to increase the price and keep the old model around? Fine. But can they at least not end up with weird options like not designing it for Pencil 2 support or not having a laminated display (what is this, 2013?).

Another plus: I do like that Magic Keyboard Folio. Very cool. The magic keyboard with my Pro is jealous of the missing function key row!

That price increase though in Europe, even at exisitng things. I'm glad now that I bought my Air 5 this Spring as my "on the go" device.

Also the Pencil 1 with USB-C charching port adapter will make sure customers have to play USB-C dongle roulette or buy another thing, which will probably not give a lot of customer satisfaction. I am sure vendors will try their best to dump off their Pencil 1s without dongle as quick as possible.
