Why? Is just an evolution of the model they have had in store for last couple of years.
They announced Apple Watch studio at an event.
Im actually hearing unverified rumours now that there won't be an Apple Watch studio initially for the series 7, that configurations will be fixed only for the first couple of weeks. Take that with a huge grain of salt, but this is from people who claim to be connected to marketing..

Call it a conspiracy theory if you want, but due to this oddness I am now convinced this isn't the Apple Watch Series 7 we were supposed to be receiving. Something bad must have really happened when mass-producing the true series 7 to force Apple into this last min rush job. And yes all signs do point to a rush job.. lack of renders available, lack of Apple Watch studio, no senior staff wearing the device, shot of the actual flat sided model left in the promo video. Everything screams weird.

Not a conspiracy theory. I think a lot of people have come to the same conclusion. This was not the watch that was supposed to be.

What I dont get is the fact Apple have probably had an entire year since the S6 to get S7 ready with design, pre production and ironing out any potential issues. If the flat edges S7 was actually the plan, then why did it take so long for them to realise it wasn't going to work? And I agree with everyone here, this is probably the weirdest Apple launch they have done. No options to check the pricing, customise watch bands etc.

..... or maybe there wont be standard configs this time....... will just choose your case and any strap..... I think that would certainly make more sense logistically for Apple.
A german store and online shop (official Apple reseller) has all watches with prices online ready for pre-order On October 8th. The prices are the same as S6 and there are only standard configurations. Alu goes with standard silicone sports band and for SS you can choose between sports band and milanaise.

Ah okay, i already saw the Graphite + Abyss Blue one on amazon but very nice to see the rest. According to that the prices are the same which is great!

I know I want graphite so ill probably go with Abyss Blue as I can always use one of my other bands and plus the colour will be nice too.

Re-seller always have standard configuration, only apple has apple studio where you can choose virtually any band, any colour and size to you liking

I know. My point being the argument above was that apple won’t do apple studio with s7 because some German store only sells standard configs so I’m saying that stores like that only sell standard configs so that doesn’t prove anything

rossy100 said „maybe there won’t be standard configurations“. So my reply was just to show that there will definitely standard configs and to show all the people questioning the prices that they will stay the same. That’s all. I never tried to prove anything.

For retailers I completely agree they need standard - but my point was that for Apple there really is little logic in having standards as probably easier for them to manager everything as studio. Just a thought.

Can’t wait till Friday. This is probably going to be the most shadiest and sketchiest launch of Apple product in the history. Mark my words 😂
Yeah....for some reason I expect to see some shipping scans originate from Russia ;)

More than a year they are most likely working on S9 right now

It looks remotely feasible, but water makes light refract very differently. It’s impossible to say if that’s really a flat sided watch or just the series 7 we’ve seen with light effects.

Agreed, I knew it was going to be that particular shot. The first time I saw it I thought it might be for a split second, but upon detailed review I'm absolutely certain it's not.

I think it looks like the rounded watch they released based on the screen grabs and thickness of the glass. You can see the rounding.

Whether it is or not is irrelevant to be honest. Something weird is going on with this launch and I guess we won't learn why until years later - if at all.

It's relevant because it's clearly been stated that the flat sided watch was used in the promotional video and is evidence that the flat sided watch exists. I'm saying that it's not the flat sided watch in the video and it's not a piece of evidence that the flat sided watch exists.

I do agree though, likely we won't know. My gut feeling is that the flat sided thing was (or is) real, I'm just not at all convinced that Apple managed to "leave" it in the video. The chain of events for that to happen are practically inconceivable.
