I find myself really wanting a simple exercise log (customizable for activity of course). $9.99 for the existing exercise apps is ridiculous!

I also find myself wanting a little more customization in the databases already on the iphone. I'm thing something along the lines of Bento (by Filemaker) would be awesome.

File management apps

I want office-like apps where I can create, edit, and delete documents. Something like DataViz Documents to Go.

Another thing I want is the ability to wirelessly transfer files to/from the iPhone and other computers -- not via iTunes sync. Even a basic FTP client would be good enough.

And to make this useful, we have to have an area of memory in the iPhone where we can manage our own files -- not associated with some other 3rd party app. The OS and Apps would have to be secure from this area, though, so there's no risk of evil files messing with the rest of the device.

You can already view PDF files, that is native. Do you want somewhere to store them?
I want an area on the device to store anything.

I don't know if it's possible, but the architecture would have to be such that applications can read and write to this area, but the files saved here cannot damage anything else (the OS and applications).

Until the iPhone can deal with files, I'll still have to carry my iPaq too. Blackberry, Windows Mobile, Palm, and others can handle data file management (for example, downloading a data file to the device), so I don't understand why it seems to be completely missing from the iPhone.

i don't know if it would be possible, but if someone could do netflix watch now streaming to iphone, that would be pretty awesome.

Mac OS X computer users are not able to take advantage of the "watch now" feature as of yet. It is only for Windows, and the iPhone runs on Mac OS.

There are a great deal of movie/showtime applications but what I would like to see is a fandango application so I can buy tickets, watch trailers, view movie listings all using the location finder for the nearest theater. If that was the case I would fall in love again!

1) Notes sync with Outlook
2) Tasks sync with Outlook
3) create/edit word and excel files
All of these exist on Palm, RIM and Windows mobile so to truely become the business leader I think they'll need these.

I agree 100%

I especially need tasks sync.

I like a lot of these ideas: Tivo, Netflix, Adium and downloading podcasts directly to the phone.

I would like some classic games too: Mindshadow, Shadowgate, Uninvited, Deja Vu 1 & 2, Marble Madness, Crystal Hammer... basically some classic games from the old Amiga days. :p

I was looking at the card apps, and I would like to see an app that helps manage poker tournaments. Something like figuring out payouts, blind structure, starting stacks, etc. We have played a ton of tournaments and often we end up changing them up so then we have to figure everything out again I know its not difficult once you get experience but it would be cool to be able to do this on my ipod/itouch instead of in my head.

I don't know why nobody has cashed in yet on a good IM program besides AIM. A good chat program could go for $9.99 easy.

a scientific calculator with graphs and equations would be prime! this would be extremely useful for high school/college/university students like myself. personally, i don't want to fork out $100 for a bulky graphing calculator when it can and hopefully will be an app on my phone :)

I would give $50 to $100 for a graphing calculator app that does just as much as my TI-84 silver.

Anyone hear if anyone's in the works for this?

I would like an exercise log/workout app that would supply workout routine ideas that you could customize on the fly as a way to keep motivated in the gym. If it would also be able to save and store your routine data over time it would be an excellent way to keep track of your gains in muscle and loss in fat. That would be one awesome app!

Except you wouldn't be able to use it on a test, whereas with a regular graphing calc they'll let you.

Grocery Store App - Possible Integrated Services

I would really like to see major supermarket chains, like Publix, release free or cheap iPhone/iPod Touch apps.

You could designate your home store, create shopping lists, browse current sales, promotions and coupons, look at the price of each item, generate a budget... so on and so forth.

Wi-Fi in stores could allow the devices to sync up to a server in store that could look at your shopping list, identify your needs, tell you which aisles you need to go down, make suggestions (i.e. upsell and cross sell) and help you pick out items you might need for a specific recipe.

Then, when you check out, the App generates a unique id and code that translates all the coupons and promotions to the POS.

Have a look at DataCase.

This does almost everything you're talking about......wirelessly.

A lot of these apps that people are asking for can be done via a webapp. Most would have a short lifspan as most people, after the initial excitement of having apps, won't use most of them a lot, and don't want them taking up space on the iPhone.

The app I want to see is a wi-fi finder app. I already have a web app from jiwire.com, but I want it to be able to find me and then show me the wi-fi hotspots around me.
