My 13 PM refurb is still good with good battery life >90%. It still works well (except for safari which is a battery hog!).
Still cheaper to get a battery replacement <$100 than pay for a new iPhone >$1K and to keep for ~4~5 yrs.
May consider an iPhone 17 or 18 or longer. Nothing wrong with refurb models to save on costs.

I don’t quite get the point you’re trying to make.

I mean I know what you’re trying to do, but the lines in this day and age have been blurred.

Sure, the iPhone is a tool. But it’s also an entertainment device, which can do many things.

Try taking a parent’s iPhone off of a kid in a doctor’s waiting room, who’s playing a game, and tell them it’s not a toy.
so what exactly are you "bored" with? it's the current flagship iPhone, on the market ~ 8 months.
You've started so many threads over the past month or so stating that you are "bored" with your iPhone, yet I do not recall you ever stating what you use your iPhone for, nor what interests you have to get dome meaningful advice (
"cool" apps).
The next iPhone flagship will bore you the same within months, as would a S23 unless you start defining your user cases

As for your question, I might get the new 15PM IF it offers features that I find useful for me, out of the current rumors only a optical zoom periscope lens really makes it spelling for me, everything else - meh.

That or purchasing an older model iPhone.

I bought the 11 Pro Max new from my carrier in February 2021. This was back when the 12PM was the flagship and the 13 series was being discussed. For less than what the 12PM cost I got the capacity I wanted (512GB) and avoided being a 5G network guinea pig.

Based on OP's response to one of my posts, OP uses their phone for 'entertainment'. I have no idea why using it that way would come to be 'boring' though.

I'm not sure. I'm perfectly happy with my 12 Pro and I just got the battery replaced a few months ago before the price increase. It primarily does what I want and doesn't feel that slow. Sure, wish I got better battery life, but who doesn't? Might skip the 15. USB-C and absolutely insane battery life would get me to buy one though.

It's a device and it shouldn't have to entertain you in order to have you interact with it.
I am seriously thinking later generations have psychological problems because of device addition or something.
This isn't the first thread with this type of I'm bored problem.

Nailed it.

I am, only because I am completely bored with my 14 Pro Max & need something new.

I’d love to get an S23, but I’m just so tied into the Apple ecosystem.

How about you? Have you already made your mind up?

Your posts of late are so contradictory it is mind-boggling. You have been pretty negative about the whole Apple experience (especially the watch and phone) from your point of you (which of course you are entitled to do and to be) yet you are now saying you're going to buy the next phone because you are bored with your current one. However I guarantee you within two weeks you will be bored again with the iPhone 15 because it's going to be a tiny iterative upgrade as they always are.

So my question to you is, what do you really want? Why don't you just move over to Android? They do some fantastic stuff especially as you say, the S23.

My generation (Gen-X) seems to be able to just 'tune-out' whatever it is that we don't wish to be bothered by. I mention that because there seems to be a movement in the later generations towards 'distraction free' devices/computers.

I would guess that needing to be entertained by something when you are paying attention is thus a prereq to using it.

IDK 🤷‍♂️

Yes. I will be keeping my iPhone 11 Pro Max.

I don't get bored with tools, I get bored with toys.

OP refuted himself.

In his example, the kid is entertained by what the phone could do (apps), not the phone itself.

And the 14 will certainly be able to do most if not all that the 15 can do.

So if OP is bored with the 14, he will be bored with the 15.

It will be pointless to update for the reason OP stated.

Already sold my 14 Pro Max, the resale value of the 14 Pro Max will be one of the lowest ever seen this year. I can live with my X till then.

Almost certainly, yes. My iPhone X is now very tired: weird battery problems, overheating, and general flakiness. Battery life is the real problem - I don't want to carry a brick with me, but equally I don't want to have to worry about my phone dying a few hours after leaving the house.

I've been waiting for usb-c charging before upgrading, but mostly as a delaying tactic (I dislike waste and reuse is better than recycle).

However, I have been quite disappointed with Vodafone UK's + iPhone network performance the past few years. Call quality can be crap, 4G in particular can be crap even with three bars of signal (central London). My contract isn't cheap, but I rely on global traveler to keep costs down when abroad. I'd want to be sure that these problems are fixed with the new iPhone. It's a lot of money if all I really get is better battery life.
If there's nothing else wrong with your phone, why not replace the battery at Apple? Looks like it would cost about £89. See: https://support.apple.com/en-gb/iphone/repair/battery-replacement

That way, you can have another year or more.

Well, I am a 12 mini user, so unless Apple surprises us with a 15 mini (which could be as simple as putting an A16 in and a USB-C), there is very little incentive for me to upgrade, as mini offers a great set of everything in a light portable package.

At the end of the day, my 12 mini is still in a great shape, runs iOS 16 just fine and should be doing well with iOS 17 too. So I am planning to use it until the battery tires out, a phone gets broken or Apple comes out with another sub-6” iPhone (bringing back one of 5.8” models would be great too).

I could easily upgrade to iPhone 13 mini and perhaps I still will, but even that will offer me just some small evolutionary benefits. Nothing of a WOW! feeling I had when Apple first unveiled iPhone 4, iPhone X or mini. I mean, a baseline iPhone 15 is expected to be just like iPhone 14 and iPhone 13 and iPhone 12, with a USB-C connector vs Lightening. Is this really worth a 1019€, as I am based in France? Not at all, if you ask me.

Nope.
New the iPhone 13 mini is barely cheaper than it was last year, and I’m not going to spend half a grand for “slightly” better battery life.
And keep in mind I’m using “slightly” in context here, the difference between the 12 mini and 13 mini battery is going to be extraordinarily minor compared to the difference between a 12 mini and a 15 pro max.
And while I absolutely love the miniform factor, I think it’s clear that it’s not here to stay and long term it’s best to move on.
This won’t be my first rodeo, I went from the iPhone 5 to a 6+, then years later the 6.1 designs, 10 minutes and I’ll be used to it.

From what I have read, a mini 13 should give you about an extra 1-1.5 hr of battery use, compared to 12 mini. Obviously it will never match a Pro battery life.

I am also not so keen on buying a 13 mini now, as its improvements over 12 mini will be so small, yet I do enjoy a mini’s weight, size and pocket friendliness. So I am attentively watching out for any small iPhone related rumours or something really impressive to push me back to a 6.1” form factor.

I was using iPhone 11 before and that was a real brick. Reviving a 5.8” form factor would be great, IMO, but with Apple rumoured to go even bigger with iPhone 16 Pro might be unlikely.

Time will tell and for now my mini 12 still serves me well.

Yup, that’s what happened to me! I felt “bored” with my iPhone 6S and ended up switching to the galaxy s8. It was really cool and exciting to use for the first month or two and then I started to get bored of it too. I started to miss the look, feel, and consistency of iOS and the iPhone. Since then, I got the AirPods, AW, MacBook and now I can’t imagine switching back. Love all the devices and how well they work together
