I’m still using the iPhone X so yes, time for an upgrade.

But I’m undecided about whether to go with the 15 Pro or 15 Pro Max.

Right now, no. I'm not ready yet to go exclusively eSIM. I also use 2 phones. And I thought I had 2 options. Wait until fall to upgrade my iPhone 12 Pro to a 15 pro, and use my 12 Pro as a backup phone (to replace my 2016 SE). Or do what i just did, decide to test a decent Galaxy phone (a Galaxy S23).

The battery was getting short lived on the SE.

It worked out replacing the SE a month ago. For a test, I pulled the SE out of the drawer. In just the last month the battery went swollen. So the phone wouldn't have been safe to use anyway.

I know it’s early to ask this question, but I am interested to see what everyone is planning on so far. Some people upgrade every year, some people might be holding on to a much older iPhone but are holding out to finally upgrade this generation, or maybe there’s a specific feature some people have been waiting on.

Rumored features (some may be Pro-only):
  • USB-C
  • Action button replacing mute switch
  • Periscope camera lens (5-6x zoom)
  • A17 - First 3nm Apple chip
  • 8GB RAM
  • WiFi 6E
  • Qualcomm X70
  • Titanium frame with more rounded edges
  • Slightly smaller body with same screen size
  • Smallest bezels of any phone
  • Red color
  • Higher price
On the other end, iPhone upgrades have never been so incremental, and it’s financially and environmentally smarter to hold on to your perfectly functioning iPhone now.

So, as of right now, are you planning on upgrading to the iPhone 15 series? Why or why not?
I find the 14 Pro to be a pretty amazing device. The only things coming to the 15 Pro that I know I'd like are titanium build and USB-C. But I don't think that alone are reasons to upgrade personally.

We shall see.

I'm curious: is there a known bloating issue specific to your SE models, or did you somehow store it incorrectly? Because I still have several different models of obsolete iPhones sitting in a drawer, and while battery life obviously varies from one to another, not a single one has shown signs of battery bloat. Mind you, I have no idea if the two ancient iPhone 4 units in that stack will still power on... and I'd have to dig out a 30-pin cable to find out. (I'm mostly certain there's still one around here, somewhere...) But the iPhone 5, 6 and 8 units I have all seemed just fine, last I checked.

(Yes... I'm well aware that I have a problem. 🤓)

I might. If I can earn enough money in my new job selling insurance I may be able to afford it.

No because I basically updated all my apple products last year (Iphone 14 Plus, Apple Watch 8, Ipad Air 5) and want to save money this year, or at least try to.

Nope, it’s a pointless upgrade for me, got my mint refurbished 13 Pro earlier this year and love it. Saved a fortune too. Dose everything I want.
I don’t think I’ll be interested in another iPhone until Apple release a folding phone. Then I can replace my iPad too.

Probably going to upgrade from my iPhone 11 Pro Max for:
- 120 hz display
- always on display
- bigger screen
- new magsafe charging
- USB-C port
- better camera's
- better battery life

Yeah I know, I could have bought an Android phone many years ago and got even more new features for less money. But it is what it is.
But Apple is far more advance then android once you go Apple there no going back

I’m not upgrading this year, due to I have important things taking place this year. In September, I plan to start putting money aside to upgrade my 14PM to the 16PM. My 14PM has been great and I have no complaints. I even didn’t jailbreak this one so I’m a happy customer.

Same here. I am very happy with my iPhone 14 Pro Max and while the rumored camera upgrades and USB-C is cool for the iPhone 15 Pro Max, I honestly can live without those features at this point. Also, like you, I got other things going on ( a big move happening this summer and vacation in the fall/ winter) where it just wouldn't make sense to drop $1200 or more on a new phone when the one I have would only be a year old. Plus, I also upgraded to the Apple Watch Ultra this year, so I think my iPhone 14 pro max and Apple Watch Ultra are good for now. I probably will upgrade when the iPhone 16 hits in September 2024.

However, I will be here for the September event and hope I don't get caught in the iPhone 15 Pro Max hype lol.

Yeah posting here will make you hyped come September when the event happens ha. We also have a famous Youtuber that posts here too, spreading hype... iJustine.

However, I feel like I might get caught in the hype come September. Some of y'all may need to remind me to hold off until the iPhone 16 lol.

I didn’t subscribe to any of the tracking threads and didn’t watch the keynote for the 13 series. As each day went forward it made it easier to not upgrade.

I'll be watching iOS 17. If it doesn't include the X, then the handwriting is on the wall for my 11 Pro Max, and I'll probably get the 15. I don't know when 17 is supposed to debut, but maybe by then the 15 will have been out a few months and no longer in short supply.

Would love to see the 15 available in Midnight Green!

It’s very easy not to buy a new phone, or should be. You’re not alone though, I see dozens of posters on here each year unable to resist after declaring they are not going to bother. The modern pressures of consumerism in a modern ‘must have’ World.

Now we know the 16 pro series will have larger displays, periscope on both models and probably a new design for the camera bump, I now stand by my original post in this thread.

The 15 series is a last minute stop gap and pretty garbage in truth when you accept they're pushing this out because they couldn't get everything done in time that's coming next year.

Cons - No real redesign, same displays, same ugly camera bump design, no capitative buttons, last minute action button to fill the missing mute switch.

pros - Titanium frame, USB-C, more RAM.

I also feel like Apple really don't have much of a design team anymore.

I fully disagree.

The screen is perfect (OLED, always on, extremely readable outside)
The capacitive buttons…honestly…who cares?
The cameras are le easy more than fine
A bigger screen would mean a lot less pocketable device

This year we get. Better processor and especially more RAM, hopefully a lighter phone with the titanium and the USB C.
In terms of USEFUL changes, this is huge.

Welp, my plans abruptly changed over the weekend. My wife convinced me that we should switch carriers... and of course, with that switch came the corresponding change out of all the phones on our account, which means a new iPhone 14 Pro Max to replace my existing 12PM. I suppose I won't be looking to upgrade in the fall, after all. A pity; I was actually kind'a looking forward to exploring that new telescopic lens.

I know, I know... first world problems. I'm sure I won't be nearly so concerned about that, after our new iPhones arrive tomorrow.

Running a 12 right now, so I'm certainly due. Will either go with 14/15 Pro Max. Just got to wait and see if the cost can be justified for the newer model.

I need to replace my aging Android phone coming up to 5 years old than my iPhone which is only 18 months so I will probably skip the 15 as I cannot afford to replace both phones close together when phones cost so much these days.

Can't you keep your current one and upgrade later?
