If I can upgrade from my 14PM for a reasonable price then yes. Depends on carrier deals or BB spiffs and how enticing the changes to the phone are.

I know it’s early to ask this question, but I am interested to see what everyone is planning on so far. Some people upgrade every year, some people might be holding on to a much older iPhone but are holding out to finally upgrade this generation, or maybe there’s a specific feature some people have been waiting on.

Rumored features (some may be Pro-only):
  • USB-C
  • Action button replacing mute switch
  • Periscope camera lens (5-6x zoom)
  • A17 - First 3nm Apple chip
  • 8GB RAM
  • WiFi 6E
  • Qualcomm X70
  • Titanium frame with more rounded edges
  • Slightly smaller body with same screen size
  • Smallest bezels of any phone
  • Red color
  • Higher price
On the other end, iPhone upgrades have never been so incremental, and it’s financially and environmentally smarter to hold on to your perfectly functioning iPhone now.

So, as of right now, are you planning on upgrading to the iPhone 15 series? Why or why not?
I’m upgrading for the Qualcomm X 70 modem and USB-C

I've had my 11 Pro Max since launch in 2019 and I'm ready for an upgrade. It's the longest I've gone since upgrading (normally I'd upgrade every year or two) and I'm very excited.

I've had the battery replaced in my 11PM last year and it's a great phone, I just really want something shiny and new.

I think so. I’ve been holding on to an iPhone 11 due to OLED PWM issues with recent iPhones, but my phone is painfully slow now. I’m planning on upgrading and trying to use my phone as little as possible.

I can't justify it. I have the money and could afford it but I'd rather spend my money on something else.

My iPhone 12 Pro Max still works perfectly fine. Battery health is at 88% and I'm still quite happy with how long it lasts. Maybe once it gets closer to 80% I might get Apple to put a new battery in.

I can't see myself buying a new iPhone for another year or two. Maybe if I break this one but I take good care of it keeping it in a case and putting on a screen protector. Twice I've dropped it and if I hadn't had a glass protector on then my screen would have been wrecked.

Just got my 14 pro 6 weeks ago new for $900aud off retail, so will probably wait till this time next year for another deal similar to pop up for a 15 pro, if not won’t bother.
I Never buy at retail they are not worth it imo.

That may seem like a minor reason to upgrade but….

I went from an iPhone X to a 13 , and while the 13 pro is a great machine, there are things in the design that I dislike to this day:

1/ the rather large bezels
2/ the general shape and that horrible steel metal band around the phone (vs the much rounder X)
3/ the weight

So, if there are changes to at least some of it, I’ll definitely consider upgrading.

No. I want a smaller form factor than the 6.1. Apple may not release one again though in the next few years which is a shame.

I voted no because there will likely be no Touch ID. Also, I don’t care about Dynamic Notchland.

Still very happy with my 12 pro and feeling no urge to upgrade whatsoever. After 30 months it still does everything I need it to, and it certainly doesn’t feel as slow and old as some of my previous phones have after just 18 months. Battery is getting a little tired perhaps but even that is holding up better than expected.

This’ll be the longest I’ve ever had a handset I think, I used to upgrade every 2 years like clockwork but don’t feel the need to anymore. Happy to save my money, although tbf I’ll likely spend it on another tech product instead 😂

Not sure yet. My husband desperately needs an upgrade for his iPhone 11 and if we both upgrade at the same time we can maximize carrier deals.

If it wasn’t for that I’d be more inclined to wait. My 13 Pro Max is working great and I’m really not a fan of the dynamic island intruding further into the screen. I’d prefer to wait for that elusive hole punch but who knows when that is actually happening.

According to Ross Young, the hole punch isn’t coming to the Pro iPhones until 2025 and until 2027 for regular iPhones: https://9to5mac.com/2023/04/03/iphone-display-roadmap-face-id-more/

If it has usbc and can work with my nreal air glasses without that dongle, and the transfer speeds are fast, then I’ll probably upgrade from my 11pm.
If there’s a desktop experience like Dex, then definitely.

Coming from a 12 Pro Max, currently at 88% (purchased Dec 2020) I really would like:
  • Battery improvements.
  • 120hz screen.
  • Camera improvements.
  • USB C.
  • Dynamic island.
But honestly my phone does what I need and even the battery is fine still. I'm not sure right now if I will update, but I think it will also depend on what my 12 is worth when the 15 is released.

Half of why I would like to upgrade is just for USB C, tired of taking a magsafe puck or lightning cable with me when my other devices (also mostly Apple ones!) are USB C.

I seriously wonder what Apple Inc. makes of this freely-offered market research?

Barely 30% of what must be regarded as a fairly knowledgeable slice of their use base are planning to buy their new iPhones, and 40% have stated that they will not be upgrading from what they already have.

I don't recall such hesitancy about the iPhone 12, quite the opposite.

Has anyone here made any systematic comparison of such in past threads on upcoming iPhones?

Got a 13 Pro Max. I dont think that anything the 14 Pro Max can do, will be a reason to switch. Maybe the 17 Pro.

I'm happy with my 14 Pro, and don't see anything about this year model, that would make me want to replace it.

It’ll be similar to last year where Apple will hike the price up, less people will upgrade but the revenue will be even or higher due to a higher retail price covering the gap. I think a lot of people, myself included are seeing less reason to upgrade and are even buying last years models to get the Pro features but at a more reasonable cost.
