It’ll be similar to last year where Apple will hike the price up, less people will upgrade but the revenue will be even or higher due to a higher retail price covering the gap. I think a lot of people, myself included are seeing less reason to upgrade and are even buying last years models to get the Pro features but at a more reasonable cost.

OK, there may be concern about a probable price increase. However, what is being suggested in comments here (is as you suggest) that the increase in quality/facilities is not regarded as worthwhile; diminishing marginal utility has set in; the tech seems to have reached a plateau, or at least no wow factor is anticipated.

iPhones really are splendid products, highly versatile and durable. Mine does its job, just like my fridge and washing machine. I don't replace those that often, albeit that they don't accompany me outdoors as a fashion statement ;)

All this leads me to think that Apple won't secure much, if any, extra revenue (PxQ) from upgrades, at least from the large segments of their existing user base. That said, many new markets might be opening and, of course, there are new labour market entrants every year. I splashed my first wage on hifi and music - the smartphone is now the route to that and more.

Im going to update mostly because i do strictly a 4 year cycle with iphones. Saves me lot of money, makes upgrading more meaningfull. Besides each time I upgrade iphones get even more faster despite their age.

4s was nice untill IOS 7 arrived and totally messed up everything. 6s lasted quite good with very decent speed (battery was a mess though).

My current XS max is going amazing, i bought it in 2019 when 11 pro was out. Had like 300€ discount on a 256gb model, since they are so pricy ( and even more now) decided to go for it, so the phone is tecnically 5 years old almost and is going almost like first day (i did see a very very small drop in performance but not important).

So, what im really looking for in the 15 pro max + accumulated features are:

•120hz display ( probably one of my most excited features)

•a lot more battery life l (i even think it will last even more than my xs max + the smart battery case i have). Hopefully it grows this year more.

•ultra wide camera + improvements on other cameras (light, night mode, optical zoom, sensor shift, 48 mpx main camera), hopefully this year we see a big improvement or at least meaningfull. Periscope lens would be nice to see

•lidar sensor, and this year it seems its either more efficient or powerfull, both are nice.

•Improved speakers acumulated over the years, would be nice to see a improvement this year too.

•Better oled screen (XDR) although i dont think that it is that noticeable, the higher nits will be.

•less bezel, and with the 15 even less as rumored!, great to see

•Might be controversial but im looking forward to the dinamic island.

•Reaaaally looking forward for flat design body, still think iphone 4-5s had pretty good design, but this just feels better. Seems like on the 15 pro it will take from both designs with micro rounded corners which in CAD designs seem quite apealing

• Solid state buttons were supposedly cancelled last minute but im not sure I was ready to go to switch to that.

•usb-c is a nice inclusion.

•wifi 6 and 6E will be nice for future proof, but i don't currently even have a 6 router. 5g is same story as my provider of fiber + cellular doesn't have 5G ( there is in Spain, it is just a very cheap budget provider, it does the job though), im not very excited yet for the 5g, it doesn't provide groundbreaking speed for the battery it sips.

•Last but not least the performance jump, from A12 to A16 is already a lot, but hopefully the A17 will see a jump from the iphone 14 pro’s as the chip will be produced in 3nm process.

Hopefully this year with ios 17 they will focus on performance and stability like they this with IOS 12 felt really polished when i bought my iphone. IOS 16 is not very stable and the iphone 14 didnt also start well with the brrrrrt camera like a A-10 warthog😂

Siri needs also URGENT attention now more than every with chatGPT rising like a rocket. For me siri really serves to activate or deactivate alarms to wake up😂, reminders sometimes but it fails 50% of time. Truth to be told though is that i use it in Spanish and it is noticeable worse than USA english version.

Apologies for this humongous bible I wrote😂

We’ve been having minor yearly incremental updates on iPhones since about 2015 I’d say and that was the turning point for upgrades to start reducing globally. Prices went up significantly in September with the 14 Pro’s bringing a £150 price hike over the previous years 13 Pro’s and this further sent a message to the market that maybe these devices don’t need upgrading as often. Mac Rumours is made up of a lot of people who must have the latest and greatest but this is a very small number in the grand scheme. Most people I know keep mobile phones around 4 years and this is down to cost and the fact smartphones have been very capable devices for some time now. This year will just highlight it even more, especially if the price goes up again IMO.

I’m stuck on a 2 year cadence due to my bank’s upgrade program so will skip and get the 16 pro max or 16 ultra instead.

The only thing I dislike about my 13pro is the weight. I said I would get the 14pro if it was lighter but unfortunately it was not. Hopefully the titanium and slightly smaller size will get the 15pro below 190g but I really would love for it to be the same weight as the standard 14. Or if they would put 120hz on the regular 15 I would get it but I know that won’t happen.

I've had my 11 Pro Max since launch in 2019 and I'm ready for an upgrade. It's the longest I've gone since upgrading (normally I'd upgrade every year or two) and I'm very excited.

I've had the battery replaced in my 11PM last year and it's a great phone, I just really want something shiny and new.
Did I just luck out with my launch day 11 pro? I’m on the original battery still at 99% health.
That said, I’m probably not ready to upgrade just yet. I think there’s a bit of delayed gratification I’m playing into!

How’s your charging patern? what percentage do you let it trop max and how full do you carge it.

Even if you do the 20-80% charge it seems hardly possible that the battery is still on 99%, specially after almost 4 years. It sounds to me it is miscalculating the health.

Have a look at the battery cycles if you have analitycs on. Im quite curious to see how much of them you have cause it certainly is a very rare situation, if it turns out to be correct data, man you are a lucky guy or you hardly use your phone 😂.

Mine is at 76% with ~900 cycles since 11 pro launch as well.

Feeling the age of my XS and have been waiting for a certain minimum level of performance, camera quality / features, hardware (increase in RAM), faster transfer speeds, etc etc — and this seems likes it’s gonna be the year when all of those come together.

…So yes I’m planning on getting one — just sad that it doesnt seem like the Pros will be getting a green/blue colour this year like the 12+13’s did.

Last year was the first time I had skipped an upgrade and will probably do the same again this year unless there's something really significant that the iPhone 15 Pro brings to the table. The price increase will be interesting, especially here in the UK. It's why so many people have stopped buying Apple products.

Two rumoured ‘features’ that will stop me from buying an iPhone 15 are:

01 - MFi Certification on USB-C
02 - USB 2.0 speeds on USB-C

If either of these are implemented I will keep the 14 Pro Max for as long as possible, because the benefit of 1 cable for all devices isn’t that important.

I know it’s early to ask this question, but I am interested to see what everyone is planning on so far. Some people upgrade every year, some people might be holding on to a much older iPhone but are holding out to finally upgrade this generation, or maybe there’s a specific feature some people have been waiting on.

Rumored features (some may be Pro-only):
  • USB-C
  • Action button replacing mute switch
  • Periscope camera lens (5-6x zoom)
  • A17 - First 3nm Apple chip
  • 8GB RAM
  • WiFi 6E
  • Qualcomm X70
  • Titanium frame with more rounded edges
  • Slightly smaller body with same screen size
  • Smallest bezels of any phone
  • Red color
  • Higher price
On the other end, iPhone upgrades have never been so incremental, and it’s financially and environmentally smarter to hold on to your perfectly functioning iPhone now.

So, as of right now, are you planning on upgrading to the iPhone 15 series? Why or why not?
I normally upgrade every two years and I bought my 13 Pro almost 2 years ago so I expect to get the 15 Pro or Pro Max depending on circumstances in October. Also I turn 75 next month and am now recovering from some serious health issues so I can no longer wait for a better time. This may be my last chance, who knows., I've reached a point in my life where it may be the last chance for me to get something I want and I want the 15 Pro/Max.

I used to upgrade every year, then every 2 years, missing out the S years but my 12 Pro Max is still fast as you like, takes brilliant photos and does everything I need. That's gong to be their problem, they make them so good it's hard to justify the huge price to upgrade. My battery is on 83% (Bought it on launch day) so I think I will get a new Apple battery put in so £89 to get at least another years use out of it and look at the 16 when that comes out perhaps.

Been in a case with a glass screen protector since day one so still looks mint.

Rumours are another £200 on top of prices at the moment for the Pro Max. No way am I paying £1300 for a phone when my 12 Pro Max does everything I need it to do.

Yes, I'm upgrading from my 14 PM. I may skip upgrading until the iPhone 18 PM/Ultra, or whatever they call it, after I upgrade in September.

14 Pro, already decided this was a placeholder to the 15 Pro if the 15P brings:

1. Battery life lasts a little longer
2. Titanium frame to reduce weight
3. No worse camera bumps than the 14 Pro

If its true a £200 increase would mean the 15 Pro Max will be £1399. That would be quite absurd if that’s what Apple think is a viable price point. In a time when people are upgrading less often and pulling back from bigger purchases, it’s amazing Apple even thought last year it was wise to hike the price up. They could absorb some of the inflationary cost seeing as they make just over 51% margin on every iPhone they sell. That’s enormous.

No upgrade to the 15 Pro this time. I just upgrade to a 14 Pro and plan to keep it 4 years. If the battery takes a dump it gets a replacement battery. I was on a three year replacement cycle but will now extend it to four because the performance is so good on the14 Pro.
