And I care because...? iPhone 5s also has a sucky battery life. Sony Xperia L's battery still lasts while iPhones doesn't, just FYI
I have no idea…but great For Sony! They finally got something right! Good for you for buying one!

So, Sony L-batteries last 7 years with full capacity??!! Wow!!

For example…per TMo trade-in site: https://www.t-mobile.com/resources/phone-trade-in

Samsung Note 10+ 256 GB Verizon = $295.

Samsung Note 10+ 512 GB Verizon = $305.

IPHone 11 Pro Max 256 GB Verizon = $472.

iPhone 11 Pro Max 512 GB Verizon = $522.
Again, samsung heavily subsidizes their phones with discounts. Apple doesn't. When the Note 10+ came out you could pick one up from samsung directly for less than 500 just by trading in a Note 9 / S9+.

You are basing your thoughts off of buying directly from the Carrier or Apple (neither of which provide any kind of discount to the buyer). If I spent (and I did at the time) 1100.00 for a Pro Max, then 50% of that is ~550. If I spent (and again, I did) 450 on a Note 10+, and T-Mobile wants to give me $295 then I'm getting ~60% of my initial purchase price.

That’s odd…wasn’t it you last page of thread throwing out Apple subsidizing carriers? Now, you admit that Samsung is heavily subsidizing their phones. :D

Yeah, sorry if Samsung can’t sell crap for even close to listing price….because they know that their phone values are the pits.

Wonderful that you can buy a Note 10+ on release date at $450…that’s laughable how bad Samsung is just to get people to buy their phones.

Thanks for proving my point.

You're missing the point entirely. Why not head back over into the iOS section where you're comfortable with the $2bn company telling you how to behave, think, and do things.

My "arguments"? I pointed out the facts pretty plainly. If I paid 450 for a Note 10+ and I'm getting 60% back, then I'm getting more than the 50% that the iPhone 11 Pro Max would me. . .

Not sure what you're trying to prove here other than you think that you're better than everyone else with your iPhone. Spoiler alert: You're not.

When did i say that i am better than everyone else because of iPhone?! Weird thing for you to jump to conclusion like that. Odd indeed.

You have inferiority complex or something with your Android phone? Don’t be bro. It’s all good.

Be well bro. ?

I mean, you've been in here talking about how the iPhone is the best thing ever for the past few days now in regards to resale value, but then when I point out the flaws in your argument, you've got nothing. I simply cannot see any other reason for you to even comment in here to be perfectly honest.

Enjoy being told by daddy tim what you can and can't do with your device.

You wouldn't get 60% for your Note 10+, your missing the fact that you also had to trade in a phone (Note 9/S9+) to get the initial purchase. It was worth something too.

For arguments sake say you got 450 for your trade in it would have cost you £900 for your Note 10+.

That being the case you'd be getting roughly 33% of your initial purchase.

This is the problem with Android. Sure…you guys have LOTS AND LOTS OF CHOICES. BUT, none of them can give you a complete package.

Pixel…wonderful updates of decent duration (3 yrs). Camera great. Video suck donkey balls. Pitiful hardware (camera sensor from 2016?). Poor resale value.

Samsung…wonderful updates (just recently) of decent duration (3 yrs). Closest thing to an iPhone overall. Camera good (but it takes a Samsung fan to love Samsung output; Pixel still wins because it is simply more consistent in picture quality). Video good. Great hardware. Poor resale value.

Huawei…no Android. DOA. Camera great, but inconsistent. Video OK…probably verge on poor. Great hardware. Resale value questionable…probably good in China…but poor elsewhere.

1+…OK updates (fast, but older devices are left in dust). Camera OK. Video OK. Decent hardware. Poor resale.

Sony…poor updates. Camera hardware top notch. Camera software piss poor. Video good. Weird hardware choices but good. Poor resale value.

Now, iPhones…if you can accept iOS…perfect updates for SEVEN PLUS years. Camera great…class-leading. Video great….class-leading. Great hardware. Great resale value.

Feel free to critique what i wrote.

It's important you understand why the resale value is lower than iPhones. It isn't because the iPhones are better. It's because Apple refuses to ever put them on sale and therefore keeps their value high. Samsung on the other hand has great discounts, bundles, and sales.

So if you buy a Samsung device on presale, which is a couple hundred off, has a great trade in deal, and comes with extra money in accessories...does that mean the resale value is poor when you sell it for hundreds lower than MSRP later on? Even if you never paid MSRP in the first place?

Apple devices don't have some magic value that keeps their resale high, they put artificial value on their devices by refusing to put them on sale which doesn't allow anyone to get them at a discount even from a 3rd party.

…and the class leading camera system, powerful processor, build quality, customer service, and longevity (7+ years of support), etc have nothing to do with it?

Guy, you have said a lot of complete nonsense in this thread. People have provided you contradictory evidence to what you've said and rather than posting any evidence yourself you just deflect or tell them they're wrong because of some review you saw (that you don't post).

Apple make a great product in the iPhone. Many here own one or have in the past. But the way you think they are far superior in every way to android devices show you bias and frankly, your lack of knowledge on the subject. Your resale value argument is just plain wrong. Others have pointed out why and you don't want to listen. So I'm not going to bother.

So, fncd stated that Apple gives subsidies like crazy to carriers.

Here you stated that Apple keeps their devices value ”artificially” high preventing 3rd party from discounting them.

LOL. Can you guys confer together and come back and talk to me? LOL

I stand by what I said about Apple keeping the prices of their phones high by never discounting them. It's a known thing. If you think they are that high because of the "customer service" then you don't understand how the market works. Sure having good processors and long update support add to that. But the biggest thing is Apple setting the market and not wavering.

And for the record, when I tried to explain the reason Samsung devices lose value in my last post, you just deflected or ignored it.

Well let's see, some of the things you said in the past couple of days...

The galaxy s21 Ultra is a "POS". Funny that a phone with a better display, better battery, better form factor, more versatile camera (worse point and shoot), higher refresh, more features, and that's cheaper is a POS. But whatever, moving on.

You said Samsung phones struggle to sell that's why Samsung has to mark them down. In reality Samsung moves the most mobile devices in the world. So that's wrong.

You list a bunch of different Android brands and why they are so bad. Yet you fail to realize that having options is why people like Android. You have to take whatever Apple gives you and smile and pretend it doesn't bother you that whatever hardware or software is being used on the current Android flagships won't be picked up by Apple for another year or two (and then renamed to make it sound innovative). But again, all this was just your opinion.

Everything else you posted is just a lot of opinions stated as facts.

I agree. It has been over a year since I switched to Samsung. I'm glad I switched and it really has little to do with the hardware. I simply prefer the open ecosystem of Android. After years of being an iPhone user, I got tired of paying $1000 for a phone to be told what things I could and couldn't do with my $1000 phone. When Apple told me I could use game streaming services on their iPhone, I realized it really wasn't my phone. It was theirs and I paid them to be able to use their phone how they wanted me to use their phone. That's when I was done.

Another example, I've recently discovered I enjoy listening to vinyl records so I started a collection. Of course, while vinyl is great, I also want to be able to listen to music when I'm out and about. So I record my vinyl to my PC and copy the music files to my Samsung. To do this, it is just a matter of copying and pasting to a folder on my phone like it is an external drive. To perform the same action on iPhone I have to download iTunes, import the library into iTunes, and then sync iTunes with iPhone. There is no reason why I shouldn't be able to copy and paste music directly to my phone. I paid $1000. I should be able to do that.

Now obviously a lot of people are fine with doing things Apple's way. Totally understandable as, for the most part, Apple do a good job. The rest of my family is using iPhone and they are completely happy with it. And as long as they are happy with their phones then I'm happy as well.

I don’t understand how market works? Yet, the very next sentence you admit that long product support and processors add to it.

Oh no, i understand it perfectly. Apple is able to set the market because they produce a product as a complete package (hardware, software, and support that lasts) that people actually want! You cannot “set the market” if you produce a crappy product that is overprice, right? You do know how economy works, right? What you wrote is pure utter nonsense. I was waiting for you to write above so that i can make fun of your nonsense.

Samsung flagship(s) loses value because they cannot sell at a high volume. And add to the fact that they release flagships every 6 months. And their features are more often than not gimmicks that don’t hold value to an average consumer.

Better display? Debatable. Yes, better resolution…that defaults to lower to save battery. Yes, better refresh rate…but till this day, it still suffers from black clipping...while iPhone displays (despite being made by Samsung) does not due to appropriate software calibration. And of course, the HORRIBLE decision to make waterfall display is the dumbest thing ever created!! Whoever that thought up waterfall display should be slapped around a few times!

(Of note, did you know that XDA Developer site has been using iPhone X and up displays as REFERENCE to compare Android devices displays?? iPhone displays are first [and only?] display to achieve A+ rating from them.)

Better battery? How? By Amps? Have you seen the battery tests on Youtube b/w S21U and 12 PM?? 12PM more often than not beats S21U!! See, there you go again, just looking at “specs”.

More versatile camera? Agree 100%. Better quality pics? No…iPhone 12 PM has that beat. How about VIDEO capability? You do realize that camera system does video too, right?

Yes, you should move on…because you just got destroyed by me. :)

Samsung moves the most devices (until last quarter when iPhones beat them) because they also sell cheap crap in 3rd world nations. But when you compare S-series or Note-series or combined, iPhones destroy them year in and year out…by a very WIDE margin. In fact, the past few years, S-series sales are just pitiful. I think that the last good sale volume was S7. Since then, it has been downhill every year.

The problem of choice on Android is that none of them is a complete package.

Any more facts you like for me to share to disprove more of what you wrote? :)

HA HA HA HA> I nearly spit my coffee out. PERFECT UPDATES....Iphone? NOPE. NOT EVEN CLOSE. Since 14, my iphone 11 has been a turd. Apps randomly shutting down, no notifications, connectivity issues.....AGAIN. You need to get out from under the peel.
Hmmm…i have 11 Pro Max…works fine Here. My mother in law also have XR…works fine.

But hey, if Steve Adams has issues, then the rest of the world has them too!

Good post. Very true that Apple does restrict you to some degree while in their ecosystem. But i am not sure if my iPhone belongs to Apple...like you wrote.

But to your point…you do realize that starting with Android 10…got bad with Android 11…and upcoming Android 12 is worst…that Android is becoming more and more lockdown every year…following in the footsteps of iOS. In fact, as iOS becomes less restrictive, Android has gone the opposite route. I am sure that both OS will eventually meet in the middle.

For example, Android 11 forces apps that want to take photos or video to use the phone’s built-in camera app — even if you’ve made a different camera app, like OpenCamera, your default choice for photos.

As for your vinyl collection, i agree with what you wrote. When i was on Android recently, that is part of the draw. But if that was your main benefit, then you know that Android have other gaping issues that you have to deal with. In the end, you chose what is best for you. I think that is great.
