Review and Pics of the Survivor.

Imac Sam,

I greatly appreciate it if, in addition to providing your insights on the Griffin Survivor All-Terrain, you'd provide the dimensions, including the thickness.

Someone said it was about 3.2 inches wide, which would make it wider than even the Otterbox Defender.

Thanks.

Cheers,

The case is a 1/16" Longer, 1/16 Deeper, 1/8" Wider. So not too noticeably more than the Otterbox I had.

1.The rubber is softer.
2. The power buttons and volume buttons are much easier than the Otterbox. They operate as Apple intended now.
3. The headphone jack is centered, and accommodates larger "headphone barrels".
4. The closing flap for the lightening port is a very easy to get open, and I worry that perhaps over time it may fall open freely.
5. The Touch id sensor is protected by a film, and it feels of better quality then the Otterbox. It does appear that it will NOT wrinkle like the Otterbox film did. The sensor works fine without needing a relearn process.
6. The lightening port is larger and wider and can accommodate my 10 foot aftermarket cable from Monoprice, which has a barrel wider and thicker than the OEM Apple cable.
7. There is protective plastic frame around the camera and flash.
8. Pulling up the control center is much easier with no plastic around the Touch Id sensor like on the otterbox. Hassle-free in a pinch.
9. There is protective fabric grill around the earpiece speaker to keep out dirt.
10. The proximity sensor during a phone call also works great.
11. The facetime camera is behind the plastic screen cover and appears at this time to not affect the camera quality.

I give this case 4.5 stars out of 5. My only concern is the lighting port flap could should require more effort to open to keep it from falling open by mistake.

Here is a collection of 16 pics that I took and uploaded to my website. Feel free to download them and look for yourselves.

Thanks helpful info. Thank you.

How's the "feel" of the screen protector's interaction with the native iPhone screen? Touch actions responsive, etc.? Does the screen protector seem to be a better tolerance fit (i.e. closer to the native screen, with less gap between the them) than apparent issue with the Defender?

Again, thank you.

Cheers,

I edited the pst. Go try the link now. I had a typo in it. It should be a straight Download now.:eek:

Yep, that works. Thank you for the pics.

BTW, I grew up in Tidewater VA and went to school in C'ville.

Do you think you'll keep looking for the right case, or do think the All Terrain will do it?

I'm going to place an order this evening for a hands-on inspection. I'm hopeful it serves my needs, as I'd like to focus time on other things!!!!

Cheers,

Survivor Holster/Belt Clip

Great review on the Survivor. Any feedback on the holster/belt clip? I had a survivor for my Iphone 4 but the clip was terrible. Has the quality improved at all?

Thanks!

Otterbox dissatisfaction

I am very interested in the griffin all terrain. I will drop my phone with aplomb. I have used otterbox defenders for all my other iPhones but the iPhone 6 defender makes the touchscreen more of a mash screen.

That Bric+ looks like the bees knees but by the time it is released my 6 will be dust.

Thin belt clip with only two points of contact. I use a leather holster with a magnetic closure. It protects better than the clip and I don't have to worry about the phone falling out and taken a tumble.

Got the holster for $6 on Amazon.

Finally got the pics - very nice.

1. how is the sound from the speakers?
2. how is the sound from the earpiece?
3. any impact on the mic during calls?

Yes this does it for me. This meets my needs the best. I just ordered a 2nd one for the wife now. Once it arrives the Otterboxes go back.

I got that exact case for my iPhone 6 Plus. It arrived this past Friday the same day as my iPhone. The biggest issue I have with the case is (other than the fact that it makes the iPhone 6 Plus pretty massive) is that it is very slippery. I bought that case because I had a Spigen Tough Armor for my iPhone 5s and loved it. But the 5s version was "Smooth Black" and so the frame has a rubbery coating to it that added grip. The iPhone 6 Plus "Smooth Black" version was backordered until Sept 30th (now Oct 30th) and so I went with the "Gunmetal" version not realizing it wouldn't have the same grip. I plan on returning it to Spigen for a refund.

I haven't got my phone yet, but if it's slippery, I may consider doing the same. Hopefully not:(

I like the looks of the new trent trentium and the supcase super heavy duty.

Both are basically an otterbox defender knock off just slimmer and comes with 3 different metal color options.

The trentium is listed at .4 IN or 10.16MM.
The sup case is listed at .3 IN or 7.6MM. That is the height of a naked 5.

I could not find a review on the supcase and it appears to be a new company?

Pelican Voyager!!!

I pretty much checked out all cases for my 6 and decided the Pelican Voyager was the best (after being a Otterbox fan in the past). I decided on the Voyager model because it has the protective covers over the ports. Some have stated those covers could break off...hence the life time warranty coverage!

Yes, the two pieced snap together and are a bear to separate but I do like the fact they won't just pop off if dropped. I also like the fact that it comes with a clip on.

I haven't decided if I will use the screen protector provided, get another brand or just go bare... With the clip on, it does protect the screen. If I do decide to use a screen protector, will probably go with a Zagg!
