it's pretty good here, for a first public beta. a few weird things (for example, i can't 'see' the drafts folder in mail), and a little sluggish in places. but able to run all my apps, surf, message... function.
Thanks! My major catalina issue is indeed mail crashing randomly...so the drafts folder had become one of the most used:(

Anybody tried Big Sur with an eGPU?

i don't know if anyone else has the issue. in catalina (& only recently), mail took a long time to open; it's still doing that in big sur. the drafts folder doesn't show, but i can search for email that i know is in drafts (& it turns up).

but outside of some quirks, this is (for me) a good first-beta, and look forward to... looking forward.

Any issues with sleep? Sometimes my MBA 2020 goes into deep sleep, and the only way to wake it is to press the power button. In the past my other machine (2014 MBP) woke up after a mouse clic or any button press.

It is stable for me, but does have some quirks. Most notably, Spotlight will only show web search suggestions unless I search for the exact (full) filename.

no sleep issues here; and (as nütztjanix noted above) spotlight is not working well; am using 'find any file' for most searches, for now).

Cool. Thanks guys. I guess I'll hold off until September.

So far I am liking the Public Beta. The visual look is okay - really I don't care what the icons look like so long as it is consistent and usable which it is. What I am liking is speed is improved across the system and Safari is a much better experience. Mail also is better. Messages is smoother but really I would prefer something closer to the old UI.

On Public Beta 5 now.

Has anyone else found Spotlight Search to be a bit messed up on Big Sur? Instead of searching for whatever I've typed immediately, it only loads Top Hits and then I have to scroll down to the suggestions and actually search for the term, which seems to be an unnecessary step that I don't recall existing before.

Then, it just doesn't seem to find what I want half the time. For instance, if I type in "Music" the only way to get to the Music folder in my home directory is by typing in the word Music, clicking to perform the step mentioned above, scrolling down through the search results (which for some reason has prioritized folders containing the string "music" and other words over folders that are just called "Music"), clicking "Search in Finder" and then finding it among a long list of items. Well, it would've been faster to just open Finder and then search from there if I'm going to have to do it anyway!

I never recall this happening on Catalina. Spotlight Search almost always found what I was looking for extremely quickly, and I would only open Finder to manage files or deal with multiple files, never to actually "find" something.

Am I crazy or did Spotlight get downgraded?

Is there a stand-alone installer for the public beta available somewhere? I‘d like to try it in Parallels. Do I need to have a working Catalina installation first and enroll that in the beta program?

Hmmm despite being plugged in all day to a power source, my battery has been draining! Reported it, and hadn't seen this before.
