Hello TommyBoy5,

I can truly sympathize with your situation.

I too, have installed beta macOS on my machines for many years, without any problems. However, with the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic, "shelter-in-place", remote working, and diminished Apple Store repair/services during this crisis, I cannot afford to take the risk of using beta (potentially, catastrophic causing) macOS.

Hence, my mission-critical computers all have macOS Mojave or Catalina on them. I most certainly will not be playing around with macOS Big Sur (beta).

I hope that you'll be able to resolve your computer problems quickly!

You're preaching to the choir, brother. Learned my lesson after 20 years and that's why I stated this was the last time on a Beta for me.

Keep us posted.
It seems to be rooted with “endpointsecurityd”

Some have found success with deleting Norton or other anti virus software, but I don’t have any installed.

I had Norton on but was one of the first things i removed when the issue happened. Someone mentioned NordVPN mind you which is still on there but wasn’t set to auto load up. Might remove that before trying removing Adobe.

security wise I also have cleanmymac which I think had malware protection in it (I don’t really use it anymore, I did on my old MacBook to manage space but with the bigger hard drive in my new one Im not battling for every possible MB)

Ok touch wood a combination of the csrutil/systemextensionsctl fix and the brew doctor one on the dev forum thread seems to have fixed it

Beta 4 was running ok. Some issues but nothing really problematic. But with Beta 5 the system becomes very unstable: crashes, driver issues, graphic issues.....
Currently the worst beta i've ever tested so far...

What day in September might we expect macOS 11 to get released based on previous releases? Looking forward to macOS.
It normally comes out about a week after the iOS gets released, but with the new iPhones not touted to be released until late October, it's unclear when it might come out.
As there is no new 'features' that link iOS to macOS, I'd imagine they will release when they have the OS at 11.1 level of stability. Not fussed if they take longer, they may also be releasing some hardware to coincide with the macOS release. 😉

its not a bug, its a feature.... battery health management introduced with 10.15.5...

So much for this. My laptop was plugged into mains, and had a decent charge last night, and this morning, and left it on charge (it said 'not charging'), but I trusted in the health management, and whilst I was logged into Citrix (which meant being unable to see the battery level in the menu bar) it just turned off. No 5% or 10% warnings!

Screenshot 2020-08-25 at 10.05.47.png

According to that it went from 100% to dead in about 45 minutes or so!

Think I will just disable this 'feature'. Have reported it back.

:(

Even far, far back in my Windows days it was widely known to never install anything Symantec - for you couldn't get rid of it without essentially formatting your drive and start over new.

They are nowhere near as bad as they used to be, they responded to the negative rep they had to counter many of the common criticisms (including how hard it is to remove and the overheads). The problem is security software needs to embed itself fairly deep to be effective and it often cant be removed via the standard methods. Symantec do provide a special uninstaller to remove it fully, the problem is people don't think of doing that.

With this issue with the Big Sur Beta, I'm guessing Apple changed something which was causing a conflict with Norton and it most likely just needs a Norton update that fixes the conflicting

Last year, macOS Catalina was released on October 7, so it's possible we may see an October release across the board for all OSes, especially if the iPhone releases in October. Time shall tell; just theorizing for now.

Anyone else notice how much cooler their MacBook is running? On Catalina my 2019 Pro had the fan going almost constantly, particularly when playing video. This is a welcome change.

I had the same problem.
Open the Terminal and use the following command. softwareupdate -ia .
Then the Update starts without downloading it again. You need a bit patience, its not immediately

when I did that, it still started again but I think its because id already pressed the proper button so it had probably flushed out the download before I did what you said. its now downloading soooooo slowly. its taken 2 days. its at 37.88%. I keep thinking its stopped but then it increases a wee bit. by the time it gets there there will be a new beta.

When can we expect a new beta? On Monday?
Not to hard to work it out. It releases usually the day after a developer beta releases. Currently the cycle seems to be approx every 15 days. So the last one was Aug 19th, so I'd say 3rd Sept for Developer Beta, and 4th for Public!

nope definitely not working for me. it took a couple of dates to slowly limp to conclusion and today I got:

Failed to download & prepare update: Error Domain=SUMacControllerError Code=7723 "[SUMacControllerErrorPreflightPersonalizeFailed=7723] Failed to perform PreflightPersonalize operation: [MobileSoftwareUpdateErrorDomain(MSU):MSU_ERR_PACKAGE_FAILURE(29)]" UserInfo={NSUnderlyingError=0x7f9a4ef08d40 {Error Domain=MobileSoftwareUpdateErrorDomain Code=29 "Package signature invalid." UserInfo={NSLocalizedDescription=Package signature invalid.}}, SUMacControllerErrorIndicationsMask=0, NSDebugDescription=[SUMacControllerErrorPreflightPersonalizeFailed=7723] Failed to perform PreflightPersonalize operation: [MobileSoftwareUpdateErrorDomain(MSU):MSU_ERR_PACKAGE_FAILURE(29)], NSLocalizedDescription=Failed to personalize the software update. Please try again.}

I put in the same command again and instead of starting completely again, or being almost complete, it quickly went to 15% and now its limping again.

Wednesday is most likely, providing there’s a new Dev Beta tomorrow.
If the Developer beta releases tomorrow, and the public the day after, then it will seem that they are updating every 15 days. If that is the case, will be fun to work out what day the GM could be. 🤔
