If the Developer beta releases tomorrow, and the public the day after, then it will seem that they are updating every 15 days. If that is the case, will be fun to work out what day the GM could be. 🤔

There can be variations of the amount of days, but it's always, roughly, fortnightly to start. I think it switches to weekly leading up to GM, but we've not seen that yet on this time round.

The "funny" thing is that, over here in Bulgaria, the Update notifications re betas turn up at the same time as they are mentioned on MacRumors, but are unavaliable for download until 2-3 days later.

Looking back at the beta history of the last two macOS releases, they were all around the 10/12 day mark right up until release. So far with Big Sur they have been bang on the 15 day schedule, bar one cycle having a public holiday in it.

If you miss a beta update and wait for the next one does your computer download a combined update or does it have to download each one ?

as posted before I am on public beta 3 and can’t get the beta 5 update to install. If I wait until next week and the next public beta will that maybe fix my problem by jumping to that one or will my computer not even look at that update til it’s got beta 5 installed.

Hang on, just re-read your post. Are you sure you're on the Public Beta, as is only on PB2, and that PB3 is potentially coming tomorrow (providing Dev Beta 6 comes out today).

Only the Dev Beta release is on Beta 5, with Beta 6 expected today.

20A5343j is Public Beta 1, it looks like you've totally mixed up version numbers in your other post.

obviously I cant check what it said before I updated under an update is available for your Mac, I genuinely thought it said beta 3 at the time but ill take your word for it that it said beta 1. However it clearly says beta 5 now.

Actually that build number is Dev beta 4, which is the same as Public Beta 1. Have you messed around by running the Dev Betas, then tried to switch to the Public Beta after? As that's the only reason I would think that you're seeing that screenshot and it won't install. (plus the fact is says 'AppleBeta Software programme on the left).

no, I have no developer access, I registered with beta.apple.com as I did for my iPhone, iPad, watch. downloaded the macOS public beta access utility and installed it. ive installed one public beta. when I press it, it downloads from scratch and then I get

I pressed the button, details below the applebeta software programme is, removed the beta profile. restarted. it still offered me beta 5 although it didnt have the message on the left. I then went back to beta.appple.com and downloaded the public beta profile. in stalled. restarted. and its identical. message about apple beta on the left, beta 5 available for download.

Run this command in terminal:
sudo /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Seeding.framework/Versions/A/Resources/seedutil unenroll

Then run this:
sudo /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Seeding.framework/Versions/A/Resources/seedutil enroll PublicSeed

Weird. It's like it's thinking you are on the Dev Beta, so it shows Dev Beta 5, but since you're not eligible for it, it won't take it.

Best to not worry about it, and wait for PB3, which might come tomorrow.

am just catching up on this thread... am on the public betas, but mine also showed as '5.11.0'; it's been like that since PB day1, i assumed it was meant to match the developer's numbers...

It's not saying 5.11.0 it's saying Beta 5 (of MacOS 11.0). It's not been that on mine for the Dev Beta, not sure how PB was for PB 1.

To refresh my memory, when the gold master is released, how does one move from the beta version to the public release?

When you click on update software, click on details bottom left and remove yourself from the beta program.

One caveat to that, is the GM will be provided to developers first. If you update to the GM release candidate through the beta program, if the build number is the same as the public release, nothing will change.
My suggestion is; when they release a GM version, do as LFC202 suggests, and then wait a few days for the Public release.

Thats your 15 day schedule ruined. No DB yesterday, so no PB today.

Always tomorrow. 😁😂

If DB comes today, yea. Just the person I was quoting was confident that Apple were strictly on a 15 day release window for PB, when I saw it's roughly a fortnightly cycle so could be anywhere in the second week. ☺️

Not to hard to work it out. It releases usually the day after a developer beta releases. Currently the cycle seems to be approx every 15 days. So the last one was Aug 19th, so I'd say 3rd Sept for Developer Beta, and 4th for Public!

Don't think so. I did say the 3rd, and as that day has just started for the US, I am still in with a shout.
