I read today about the coming DLC and I figured I'd buy the game now. I bought it from Gameagent but the purchase sort of failed (card was charged though)... I'm now hoping that the customer service answers me quickly.

Should've just bought from Steam but it was cheaper in Gameagent...

It's €10 cheaper on the MAS than Steam. Which should I get? I've never used Steam so I don't know what the advantages are.

If a game has multiplayer, then it's definitely better to buy the Steam version. But Bioshock Infinite is a singleplayer game only. I bought it from Gameagent (it gives a Steam code) because it was the same price as in MAS and with Steam I can play it in Windows if I'm not happy with the performance on OS X.

I am happy to know Aspyr will continue to update BioShock Infinite. I was a little disappointed at the max resolution when playing on my new late 2013 27" iMac. But it's good to know you guys will update it.

It's not just the resolution but the quality in graphics. I recently played BioShock Infinite on Windows 7 via Bootcamp just to see how it ran and it runs perfectly on Ultra at 2560 x 1440. It looks amazing!

Is that something you guys are aiming at? I don't know the technical side of this but I hope it's possible.

Speaking of DLC, do you happen to know when the Mac version of Burial at Sea Part 1 will come out the same day as the pc and console release? Thanks!

So Mavericks is out and I assume new AMD graphics drivers. But BI is still unplayable on the 7950.

Has there been any news on this front?

Game is playable but by no means good looking on low @ 1280x800 on a 2013 i5 Air with 8GB. Fans start going pretty hard too.

Resolutions are coming soon, and while some users will have issues cranking the resolution up, you should not on that rig. It is absolutely our goal to continue to optimize Infinite and get it as close as possible to PC performance. To your second question, we are shooting for a simultaneous launch on Burial at Sea - Episode 1!

No new drivers have been released from ATI/Apple. We are still working with ATI to find the issue on the 7950. Slow going, but we are confident we will get there.

while the game runs good on iMac late 2013 (3.4 Ghz core i5 + 780M), it still runs mostly at 35fps rather than 60fps (depending of the intensity of a scene) in high details + highest resolution.

I have yet to try it in Windows, but I doubt such a rig would have issues running it at a perfect 60fps ?

Correct me if i'm wrong, but I think the performances of this port are far from the Windows version. Maybe because i'm on 10.9 ?

We have confirmed that NVIDIA performs worse in 10.9 on Infinite, but are working with NVIDIA/Apple to get it ironed out, taking the performance from "good" to awesome on the 780m.

Thanks Blair for the information.

Well if NVIDIA is really faulty, I can tell you their drivers are really far off from their Windows ones.

I compared Bioshock Infinite on Windows on my iMac, and it's DAY AND NIGHT, really, with the naked eye you can see the performances are different.

Let me explain :

First of all, on Windows I can set it to Ultra and native resolution without tweaking any any, thus it looks much nicer. That being said, everything maxed, the game performs better than the OSX version in the maximum resolution (900p ?) in High. While the OSX version crawls sometimes to 30fps, the Windows version manage to achieve in Ultra + high resolution an overall of 50fps I'd say.

If I set the Shadows to High instead of Ultra, then the game performs at 60fps in almost EVERY scene, which is quite amazing. I didn't expect it to run so nice on this iMac, but it does.

Now you can see why I'm sad about the OS X version. As expected, the OS X version performs a lot worse than its windows counterpart, and if the NVIDIA drivers are the only reasons of this difference, then you must slap NVIDIA :p

I'm sorry Alkar, I misspoke in my previous response by pointing out NVIDIA drivers and I have edited the post to reflect that. NVIDIA drivers are not the the reason why you are seeing a gap in PC vs Mac performance (although at times they can be a factor). What I wanted to get across is that we can confirm NVIDIA does have a dip in performance on Mavericks, and that we are doing everything in our power to help get that remedied.

There are many factors that can go into a gap in performance on OS X vs Windows. Porting DX11 to a very old OpenGL framework is certainly one, which is why we are so excited that Apple is now supporting newer versions of OpenGL in Mavericks. Our job as the leading publisher in Mac games is to make that performance gap as narrow as possible in our ports. In some cases, we can achieve performance parity, in others its simply an impossibility given the technical framework limitations.

What I can promise is that Aspyr will continue to work on optimizing BioShock Infinite on the Mac, and that includes working with the talented folks at NVIDIA and Apple on the stuff that we cant control. :apple:

Will this extend to AMD users as well as Aspyr's back catalog of more recent titles (Black Ops, Borderlands 2, etc)? I wouldn't expect your older releases to get optimizations aside from actual compatibility with the operating system, should that need arise.

It absolutely extends into our more recent titles such as BLOPS and Borderlands 2 on both ATI and NVIDIA. In fact we have some updates coming for BLOPS that significantly improve the performance.

Did anyone play it yet on 15" rMBP? Can you select 1920x1080 resolution on it? Can it run fast enough under that resolution?

I find that most Mac native games seem to somehow screw up resolution selection on rMBP as they don't understand what the screen resolution actually is. Because of this I'm weary of buying any of these bigger 3D games for Mac. There's no guarantee whatsoever anything will work they way it should, or at all.

Even with smaller games it's hit and miss. Last game I bought from MAS was Another World, and no matter what resolution I would choose it was running at maybe 1440x900 with big chunky pixels. I spent an hour getting my PC version of the game running under Wine wrapper, and I was able to get it working in 2800x1800, and needless to say it looked night and day better.

Play it in Boot Camp. 1080 maxed runs perfectly.

Is 10.9 performance as bad as to be recommended to stick with 10.8 for a while, or just a question of time to be as good or better than 10.8, when it comes to your games?

Oh no, not bad at all honestly. Sure there are a few bugs to iron out, but compared to many OS launches, 10.9 is pretty clean.

Again, the dip in NVIDIA performance is minimal. I honestly couldn't tell the difference without benchmarking it. At worst, there is a little bit more "hitching" than normal.

AMD on the other hand is seeing 8-15% gains across the board on our games, and I think Feral is experiencing the same.

That all said...it never hurts to wait until the second revision of ANY product so that all the quirks are closer to being worked out.

I got a new iMac (780M) and don't know what is best to be graphically amazed, Bioshock Infinite or Borderlands 2. Do you have any personal recomendation? :)

1. I want your Mac....like bad....mmmm 4 gigs of GPU goodness.

2. To your question: that totally depends on personal taste. Honestly both games are heavily stylized, so if you are looking for realism with super high rez texture maps to amaze you, neither game will fit the bill.

That said, my personal preference is Borderlands 2 if I had to choose an art style. I really enjoy the over stylized characters, colors, and environments. Dont get me wrong...the first time you see Columbia on a nice rig is pretty amazing.

So my honest answer, get them both. Borderlands 2 is the most fun I've had in any game in quite a while, and BioShock Infinite is the BEST game I've played in quite a while. Lots of awesome sales coming up with Black Friday, so keep an eye out;)

That's why I asked about Mavericks. I got my iMac and read people talking about 10.8 vs 10.9 gaming performances with Bioshock Infinite, and started wondering about downgrading to 10.8 and later update to Mavericks, or keep 10.9.

I guess there is no way I can live without buying both of them now. I checked on Apple App Store and there is no Borderlands 2 Game of the Year, Steam has it though, and you seem like a steam guy, eh? Maybe Apple Store is a bad place to buy games.

The difference is negligible, and will get ironed out quickly. Me personally, I like shiny new things, so I would go Mavericks despite the few bugs. :)

Without sounding like a fanboy (which I totally am, it is my job after all), you gotta get both. They are both that good, and I think most if not all on this forum would agree with me. I like both platforms a lot, but Steam has the advantage of being PC/Mac cross platform for Borderlands 2, which virtually ensures you will have players to play with anytime you want. For BioShock Infinite, it really doesnt matter what version you play as they are identical.

Steam Vs App store Borderlands 2

i would recommend the steam version. in my case i have to say that i don't like steam cause of the platform and the way they handle everything. so i chose the mac app store version of BL2. i thought ok there is a Facebook plattform and after a few days you will have some people playing with you.

the reality: i played once with 3 other players. they were completely dumb. running around not playing as a team - they just wanted to kill my last nerv.

after 30 minutes i quit the game - now i am playing alone like i did the last 6 weeks.

so ... sadly game center and this Facebook group are definitely a con.

why do i hate steam it would be so easy!!!!!!!

cheers
